STEP 1
Speaker Placement and Room Acoustics
The Precision Acoustics Speakers has been designed for high performance in a wide variety of settings, but here are a few helpful hints that will help maximize performance and your enjoyment.
Rooms with different height, width and length are preferable for best low frequency performance, but obviously you must work with the room available to you. If possible, place the speakers so they are firing along the longest wall in order to most efficiently fill the room with music. In other words, if the room is 10 feet wide and 20 feet deep, place them along the 10 foot wall. There will be less wall reflection and therefore a more natural sound.
Main Speakers
A general guideline for speaker placement is to set up the space between speaker and listener at approximately 1.5 times the distance between the speakers. For example, if the speakers are ideally placed a minimum of 6 feet apart, the best seating position would be 9 feet away. The speaker should be placed approximately a foot from the back wall for ideal performance and soundstage depth, but can be placed as close to the back wall as six inches.
Center Channel
A center channel can be expected to reproduce as much as 60% of a movie’s soundtrack, most of which is dialogue. In order to maintain the effect of voices emanating from the actor’s mouth, the center channel should be centrally located between the left and right main channels and be placed above or below the television.
Surround Speakers
Surround speakers should be positioned adjacent to and slightly behind the primary listening area. If they are to be wall mounted and positioned more than about 5 feet from the listening area then they should be installed at a height of about 6 feet. If they are to be placed on stands or in a wall unit closer to the listening area then they should be positioned at roughly head level.
Subwoofer Placement
A subwoofer should ideally be placed near your main channel speakers but the omni-directional bass propagation allows placement almost anywhere in the room and maintain optimum performance.
STEP 2
Wiring the speakers
Note: Please turn off your system prior
to making any connections.
To wire your system, please use good quality, speaker grade audio cable with polarity coding (usually identified with a marking on the cable) as per the gaugerecommendations indicated below. The side of the cable that has the coding (a ridge, or "+" marking) usually denotes the positive polarity.
Connect the positive lead of the speaker wire (indicated with a "+" or other marking) to the Red (or positive) speaker terminal. Connect the other speaker wire lead to the Black (or negative) speaker terminal. Connect the opposite end of the speaker wire to your amplifier making sure that the polarity is preserved ("+" to "+" or Red to Red, and "-" to "-" or Black to Black – see diagram).
STEP 3
Listening Test
Once you have connected your speakers, turn on your system and begin playback of material you are familiar with. Begin at low volume and increase to a comfortable listening level. The system should sound balanced with good stereo imaging. If the imaging sounds distorted and confused, check to make sure that the speakers have been correctly wired with your amplifier/receiver as indicated in Step 2.
Maintenance
Your Precision Acoustics loudspeaker cabinets are finished with a high quality vinyl that requires very little maintenance. Simply use a damp cloth to remove dust and fingerprints, and avoid all use of chemical products and polishes on the cabinet and grille.
SPECIFICATIONS
At Precision Acoustics we continuously strives to update and improve our products. As such the specifications indicated above are subject to change without notice.
