Basic Keypad Operations

j EZ-Check™ Switch
For Simulation - Slide the switch to select from three user stored values for the d e sired calibration points. The user can select HI, DIA L, and LO positio ns. These val u e s ca n e a sil y be changed t o su it the calibration requirements. Also these store d v a lue s can b e use f or Auto Stepping.
For Read - Slide th e switch to the D IA L position. The Model 525 will begin making readings. Slide the switch to high and you will get t he highest point read and then slide the switch to the low position and you will get the lowest range.
k SIMULA TE/OF F/ R E A D S w itch
Turn the Model 525 on to SIMULATE to output a temperature, ohms, or mV. Turn the unit to READ to read temperature, ohms, or mV.
l EZ-Dial™ Knob
Turn the knob to change temperature in 0.1º or
0.01º increments. Push and turn for faste r d ia ling . Double push to get into the model 525 Configuration mod e to auto B a ttery on/ off , C° or F°, RTD or T/C types, Store or step fe a ture , select step size and step time . Then press to store desired EZ-Check™ HI/LO points in SIMULATE mode. Push to clear EZ-Check™ HI/LO poi nts in READ mode.
Note: The Model 525 is a Unive rsal Temperature Calibrator that works great calibrating M ul ti­channel Chart Recorders, Data Acquisition & Computer Systems and Smart transmit te rs.
The Model 525 is GUARANTEED to work with ALL transmitters, rec ord e rs an d a ny ot he r RTD input devices that use intermittent, o r p u lsed e x citation current to measure the resistance of the RTD. The Model 525 automatically adjusts to the correct excitation curren t.

Model 525 Configuration

Instruc tions for Enabling and Disabling the Configuration Options
1. Turn the Model 525 on to SIMULATE or READ .
2. Double Click the EZ-Dial Knob at any time to en ter configuration menu.
3. Select options by turning the EZ-Dial Knob clockwise until the arrow points to the desired option.
4. The option can be enabled or disabled by tapping the EZ-Dial Knob.
The Model 525 configuration menu will ex i t au tomatically aft e r 5 secon d s of ina ctiv ity and go to normal operation with the options selected. The se options are re calle d a t tu rn on unt il the y are changed again.
NOTE: Changing the battery will reset menu options to factory settings.
Model 525 Configuration Me nu Auto Off ON/OFF
If Auto Off is ON, the un it will tu rn of f after 30 minutes to sa v e b a tte ry life, if there is no user activity . To change RTD or T/C ty p e , p ress the E Z -Dial™ Knob. Turn the EZ -Dial™ Knob to scroll through the list of available types. P re ss again to save and return to the configuration menu.

Store/Step

To select three test point values you first have to select Store,
1. Select your high range by sliding the Hi/Lo slide switch to the HI position and d ia l it to the range desired then press and
hold the EZ-Dial™ Knob until STORED appears to store the value.
2. Slide the Hi/Lo slide switch to t he middle position (d ial ) an d d ia l it to t he ra ng e d e sire d . You d o not h ave to press store
to keep this va lue . This p osition if so d e sired is adjustable.
3. Slide the Hi/Lo slide switch to the Lo position and dia l it to th e ran g e d e sire the n p re ss a nd hold the EZ -Dial™ Knob
until STORED appears to store the v alue .
Memory will be maintained ev en when p ower is off.
To start stepp ing after you ha ve selected t he st ep size and step time as described below scroll back up the c on fi guration m ode to STORE/STEP and select step then let the unit ti me out of configuration mode. Place the slide swi t ch in either Hi or L o p osition and p ress and hold the EZ-Dial™ Knob t o st art and also to stop.
Step Size
To change the step size, press the EZ-Dial™ Knob to find the d e sire d ste p size or % .
Step Time
To change the step time, press the EZ-Dial™ Knob to find the d e sire d ste p time in d icate d in seconds. This is the time in-between each step.
Display Resolution
To Select between High resolution 0.01º, 000.000Ω or Low resolution 0.1º, 000.00Ω, press the EZ-Dial™ Knob to find t he desired display setting .
Double-click the EZ-Dial™ Knob to return to the configuration menu at any time of operation.

Read Mode

Slide the SIMULATE/OFF/READ switch to READ for direct RT D o r T/C input. Then slide t he EZ-Check™ Switch to DIAL position to monitor the RTD o r T/ C input. The Model 525 displays temperatu re corresp on d ing to resistance i np u t f or th e sele cte d RTD type. Memory is updated every second once the unit is turned on or the CLEAR option is used. This helps when looking at temperature drift or for any other deviation. Slid e th e EZ -C he ck ™ S witch to HI and LO to re call maximum and min imum saved readin g s. Observe the “HI” and “LO” switch position indicators in the display. Press and hold the EZ -Dial™ Knob t o clea r sav e d readings. The displa y flashes “CLEARED” as a confirmation.
Be sure the switch is in the DIAL position to monitor input. Turning the EZ-Dial™ Knob has no effect in read mode. RTD READ ONLY-Automatic 2, 3, or 4 wire detect: Connect 2, 3, or 4 wires to the RTD sensor. Follow the conne ction diagrams.
The Model 525 indicate s “2W”, “3W”, or “4W” in the lowe r left corner of the d i spl ay . It will als o p la ce an arrow under each connected wire to show which wire is connected and will ind ica te if th e re is an “ERROR”. Use this f e a ture f or trou b le shooting unconne cted leads or sensors. See below figure.

Source Mode

Slide the SIMULATE/OFF/READ switch to SIMULATE for direct RTD or T/C output. The M od el 525 outputs resistance corresponding to temperature for the selected RTD or outputs mV corresponding to temperature for the sele cted T/C type.
Turn the EZ-Dial™ Knob to change temperature, push and turn for faster dialing. Slide the EZ-Ch e ck ™ S witch to H I o r LO to recall stored settings. While in the HI or LO position, d ia l a ne w se ttin g a nd press the
EZ-Dial™ Knob to store. The DIAL position always hold s th e last se ttin g d ia le d th e re . Using the STORED Value s g ives you very accurate v alu e s fo r repeatability. Adjusting the EZ-Dial™ Knob you can check f or controlle r a ctions, trip points or hy ste resis.
Double-click the E Z -Dial™ Knob to return to the configuration menu.

Auto Stepping in Source Mode

Select the step si ze by pressing the EZ-Dial™ Knob to find the desired step size or %. Select the step time by pressing the EZ-Dial™ Knob to find the desired step time indicated in seconds.

RTD Connection Diagrams, (wire lead kit supplied)

SOURCE ONLY: (See opposite figure)
To connect to a 2 wire transmitter connect one red lead to post 1 (RTD1) and connect one black le ad to p ost 2 (RT D2).
To connect to a 3 wire transmitter connect one red lead to post 1 (RTD1) and connect two bla ck le ad s to p ost 2 (RT D2).
To connect to a 4 wire transmitter connect two red leads to post 1 (RTD1) and connect two bla ck le ad s to p ost 2 (RT D2).
NOTE: 3 WIRE & 4 WI R E TE RMINALS ARE FOR READ MODE
