4 GENERAL POWER TOOL SAFETY WARNINGS
Read all safety warnings and instructions. Failure to heed warnings and follow instructions may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury. Keep safety warnings and instructions for future reference. The term "power tool" in the safety warnings refers to your mainsoperated (corded) power tool or battery- operated (cordless) power tool.
4.1 Working area
Keep working area clean and well lit. Untidy and dark areas can lead to accidents.  Do not operate power tools in potentially explosive surroundings, for example, in the
presence of inflammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
Keep children and bystanders at a distance when operating a power tool. Distractions can
cause you to lose control of it.
4.2 Electrical safety
Always check that the power supply corresponds to the voltage on the rating plate.  Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use
adapter plugs with earthed power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce the risk of an electric shock.
Avoid body contact with earthed surfaces such as pipes, radiators, kitchen ranges and
refrigerators. There is an increased risk of an electric shock if your body is earthed.
Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. If water gets inside a power tool, it
will increase the risk of an electric shock.
Do not damage the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power
tool. Keep the cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of an electric shock.
When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cable suitable for outdoor use.
Using a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of an electric shock.
If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a power supply protected
by a residual current device (RCD). Using an RCD reduces the risk of an electric shock.
4.3 Personal safety
Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power
tool. Do not use a power tool when you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention when operating a power tool may result in serious personal injury.
Use safety equipment. Always wear eye protection. Using safety equipment such as a
dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, a hard hat, or hearing protection whenever it is needed will reduce the risk of personal injury.
Avoid accidental starts. Ensure the switch is in the off position before inserting the plug.
Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or plugging in power tools when the switch is in the on position makes accidents more likely.
Remove any adjusting keys or spanners before turning on the power tool. A spanner or
key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.
Do not reach out too far. Keep your feet firmly on the ground at all times. This will enable
you retain control over the power tool in unexpected situations.
Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair, clothing and
gloves away from the power tool. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can become entangled in the moving parts.
If there are devices for connecting dust extraction and collection facilities, please ensure
that they are attached and used correctly. Using such devices can reduce dust-related hazards.

4.4 Power tool use and care
Do not expect the power tool to do more than it can. Use the correct power tool for what
you want to do. A power tool will achieve better results and be safer if used in the context for which it was designed.
Do not use the power tool if the switch cannot turn it on and off. A power tool with a
broken switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
Disconnect the plug from the power source before making adjustments, changing
accessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.
Store power tools, when not in use, out of the reach of children and do not allow people
who are not familiar with the power tool or these instructions to operate it. Power tools are potentially dangerous in the hands of untrained users.
Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment or jammed moving parts, breakages or any
other feature that might affect the operation of the power tool. If it is damaged, the power tool must be repaired. Many accidents are caused by using poorly maintained power tools.
Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting
edges are less likely to jam and are easier to control.
Use the power tool, accessories and cutting tools, etc., in accordance with these
instructions and in the manner intended for the particular type of power tool, taking into account the working conditions and the work which needs to be done. Using a power tool in ways for which it was not intended can lead to potentially hazardous situations.
4.5 Service
Your power tool should be serviced by a qualified specialist using only standard spare
parts. This will ensure that it meets the required safety standards.
5 SAFETY WARNINGS FOR FINE-SPRAY SYSTEMS
Keep area clean well lit and free of paint or solvent containers, rags, and other flammable
materials. Spontaneous combustion may occur. Fire extinguisher equipment shall be present and working at all times.
Provide for good ventilation in the spraying area and for sufficient fresh air in the complete
room. Evaporating inflammable solvents create an explosive environment.
Do not use materials with a flashpoint below 32 °C for spraying and cleaning. Use water-
based materials, non-volatile hydrocarbons or similar materials. Fast evaporating solvents create an explosive environment.
Do not spray in the vicininty of ignition sources, such as static electricity sparks, open
flames, pilot lights, hot objects, engines/ motors, cigarettes and sparks from plugging in or unplugging power cords or operating switches. Such spark sources can ignite the spraying vicinity/environment.
Do not spray any liquid of unknown hazard potential. Unknown materials can create
hazardous conditions.
Wear additional protective equipment such as appropriate protective gloves and protective
masks or respirators when spraying or handling chemicals. Wearing protective equipment for the appropriate conditions reduces the exposure to hazardous substances.
Never point the spray jet against yourself, towards other persons or animals. Keep your
hands and other body parts away from the spray jet. If the spray jet should penetrate the skin, seek medical attention immediately from a doctor. The material being sprayed can even penetrate the skin through a glove and be injected into your body.
Do not treat injection as a simple cut. Highpressure spray is able to inject toxins into the
body and cause serious bodily injury. In the event that injection occurs, seek medical attention immediately.

Viscosity Table
Spray material
Runout Time in Seconds
Water based paint
20 - 45 seconds
Solvent based paints
45 - 50 seconds
Be aware of possible hazards from the spray material. Observe the information on
drums/tanks/tins as well as manufacturer information of the spray material, including the request to wear personal protective equipment. The manufacturer's instructions are to be observed in order to reduce the risk of fire as well as injuries caused through toxins, carcinogens, etc.
Use only nozzles/nozzle inserts specified by the manufacturer. Never spray without the
nozzle protection mounted. Use of a special nozzle insert with the corresponding nozzle protection reduces the probability that a high-pressure jet penetrates the skin and injects toxins into the body.
Exercise caution when cleaning and changing nozzle inserts. If the nozzle insert should
become clogged during spraying, follow the manufacturer's instructions for switching off the system and relieving the pressure before removing the nozzle. Fluids under high pressure can penetrate the skin, inject toxins into the body and lead to serious injury.
Keep the plug of the mains cord and the trigger switch of the spray gun clear of paint and
other fluids. Never hold the cord by its connectors to support it. Failure to follow the instruction can lead to electric shock.
We accept no responsibility for damage caused by the use of unsuitable substances, or paints that have not been thinned correctly, and any health hazards that arise from lack of adequate ventilation
5.1 Immediately switch off the spray gun when:
Interruption in the mains plug, mains lead or mains lead damage. Defect switch. Smoke or stench of scorched isolation.
6 ASSEMBLY
6.1 Thinning (Fig 1)
Most paints are supplied ready for brush application and will need to be thinned before they
are suitable to be sprayed. Follow the manufacturer’s advice on thinning. The paint when
used with a spray gun. The viscosity cup will help you to determine the correct viscosity of paint to be used. To determine the correct viscosity, fill the cup to the brim with the paint. Measure the amount of time it takes for the cup to empty back into the can. The table below shows recommended times for different types of material.
6.1.1 If the painting material requires thinning To select the correct thinning agent, determine if the material is water based or solvent
based. For water based paint use water based thinner. For solvent based paints use solvent based thinner.
Start with a 10% dilution of the painting material. To do this, fill the electric spray gun container with the required amount of paint or
material.
Copyright © 2014 VARO P a g e | 6 www.varo.com
Always remember to disconnect from the mains supply before filling the paint container with sprayable material.
Page 7
POWX353 EN
The viscosity cup supplied holds 1/10 of a litre; block the hole in the cup and fill-up with
the required thinner.
Add the thinner to the paint and stir. Then measure the viscosity again. If the painting material requires further thinning, dilute by another 5% (5% is equal to half
the viscosity cup) with the correct thinner and measure the viscosity. If the paint requires further thinning, repeat the process until the correct viscosity is reached.
TIPKeep a small amount of paint to one side to add if you over dilute with thinners.
6.2 Filling the spray gun (Fig 2)
Ensure the unit is unplugged and switched to the off position. Unsrew the container from the spray gun. After the paint / material has been properly thinned, fill the container to the top of the neck. Carefully screw the container back on to the spray gun.
IMPORTANT Never fill over the max fill level of 800ml.
NOTE – Ensure the seal is in place before screwing the container back onto the spray gun.
The seal is located in the collar of the spray gun and is used to create an air-tight seal
between the container and the spray gun.
6.3 Aligning the Suction Tube
The suction tube inside the container must be in place each time you use the spray gun. If you are going to be spraying in a downward direction, the angled end of the suction tube
should be pointing toward the front of the gun. (Fig 3)
NOTE – The spray is not suitable for painting ceilings and/or any surface where the spray gun requires more than a 45 degree angle for spraying.
If you are going to be spraying in an upward direction, the angled end of the suction tube
should be pointing toward the rear of the gun. (Fig 4)
By pointing the suction tube in the proper direction, you will not have to refill the container
as often.
IMPORTANT – Never tip the spray gun upwards at more than a 45 degree angle. Material could get into the turbine and damage the spray gun.
6.4 Spray pattern
The spray gun has 3 different spray patterns: Vertical – Horizontal – Round. The vertical and horizontal patterns are recommended for larger surfaces. The round
spray pattern is used for small objects or for areas – such as corners – that are difficult to reach.
Test each spray pattern to determine which is the most suitable for your spraying task.

Page 8
POWX353 EN
6.5 To adjust the pattern
Ensure the spray gun is turned off. Loosen the nozzle collar – turn anticlockwise. Adjust the position of the nozzle to obtain the vertical, horizontal or round pattern. Retighten the nozzle collar.
Fig 5: Air cap running left to right: Vertical jet. Air cap running top to bottom: Horizontal jet. Air cap running diagonal: Round jet.
WARNING: Do not trigger the gun while adjusting the air cap.
6.6 Material flow adjustment (Fig 6)
The spray gun has an adjustable paint volume control located on the rear of the trigger. To adjust: Simply turn the paint volume control to increase (+) or decrease (-) the flow.
7 OPERATION
7.1 How to spray
If spraying with a spray gun system is new or unfamiliar to you, it is advisable to practice on an area of scrap wood or cardboard before beginning on your intended work surface.
7.2 Preparation
All objects and surfaces you intend to paint should be cleaned before you begin spraying. All areas not intended for painting should be covered or masked off.
7.3 Preparation (outdoor use only)
IMPORTANT – Observe the wind direction when operating the spray gun outdoors and wear suitable eyewear, ear, breathing and clothing protection.
The spray area must be clean and free of dust in order to prevent any unwanted materials
making contact with the painted surface.
IMPORTANT – Please follow all environmental guidelines if spraying outdoors. Be aware of your environment and dispose of any unused materials in correct manner.
7.4 Spraying (Fig 7)
First, carry out a test-spray run and adjust the spray pattern and the spray material
quantity according to the spray material (for adjustments please refer to To adjust the pattern and Material flow adjustment)
Make sure you hold the spray gun vertical and parallel to the target area, at a distance of
between 5-15cm.
Always begin spraying outside of the target area to prime the trigger. Move the spray gun evenly cross-wise or up and down, depending on the spray pattern. An even surface quality is achieved when the spray paths overlap by 4-5cm. To ensure a complete even finish, you may need to spray over the edge of the target area.
This will avoid a thin coat around the edges of the target area.
NOTE – An even movement of the spray gun results in an even spray.

Page 9
POWX353 EN
Keep your wrist straight and parallel to the surface. If you bend your wrist or arm while painting, the angle of the spray may lead to a heavy
paint formation in certain areas, resulting in an uneven finish.
TIP – Never spray the container completely empty, when the suction tube on longer immerses in the spray material, air bubbles will be created causing a break in the flow from the jet spray, resulting in an uneven spray pattern.
8 CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
8.1 Cleaning
Turn off and unplug the spray gun, and press the trigger so any painting material inside
the spray gun flows back into the container.
Unscrew the container. Empty any remaining paint back into its original container.
NOTE – Do not return any paint that has been diluted/thinned back into its original container – dispose of in the correct manner or store in a separate sealed container.
Pour a small amount of appropriate cleaning solution into the container. Clean the
container and dispose of the cleaning solution in an appropriate manner.
Refill the container with a small amount of new cleaning solution. Re-attach the container to the gun, plug in the spray gun and turn on. IN A SAFE AREA – In an empty material tin, spray the solution through the gun for
approximately 2 seconds, release the trigger and spray again for approximately 2 seconds. Repeat this process until clear cleaning solution emerges from the spray gun.
Unplug the spray gun and then pull the trigger so the remaining material flows back into
the container.
Unscrew the container again. Empty the container of any remaining cleaning solution and
dispose of the liquid in the correct manner. Wipe the exterior of the paint container and the gun until clean.
Unscrew the nut (clean), then remove the air cap and nozzle and clean. Remove the suction tube and clean – use an appropriate cleaning solution. Check the container seal and clean with water if required.
NOTE – There is a small rubber washer located insider the nozzle, ensure this is in place before reassembly.
After cleaning the spray gun carefully reassemble.
NOTE – If the spray nozzle becomes clogged during spraying
IMPORTANT – Never clean the nozzle or the air holes in the spray gun with sharp metal objects as this may cause damage.
8.2 Maintenance (Fig 8)
You should inspect the air filter at the back regularly to see if they are excessively dirty. If they are dirty, follow the steps below to clean.
Switch off the spray gun and unplug from the mains. Screw off the filter cover.
