Elastic Mesh Side Rail Protectors
Posey Elastic Mesh Side Rail Protectors feature a one-piece design that secures to the bed side rails, without the need for straps and/or buckles. The Side Rail Protectors attach with a connecting strap that fits underneath the bed mattress, which holds it in place. They are
easy to apply and easily stretch over the side rails for a snug fit.
• Designed for patients at risk of entrapment in side rail openings.
• Helps prevent dangling of extremities between the side rails, reducing possible injury and skin breakdown.
• Mesh fabric is flame retardant.
• Fits many healthcare facility beds.
• May be washed and dried under CDC infection control specifications along with regular linens.

Monitoring
Posey Elastic Mesh Side Rail Protectors will not prevent a determined patient from exiting the bed, going over or attempting to go between or through side rail gaps. ALWAYS follow your facility’s policies and procedures for patient assessment, monitoring and rehabilitation.
Application Instructions - 5707:
The Posey Full Length Mesh Protector is designed for use with healthcare facility beds that feature split upper and lower side rails, or homecare beds with a single full-length side rail. The Posey Full Length Mesh Protector will expand from 60” to 72” (152 cm x 183 cm).
1. Inspect product prior to use. DO NOT use soiled or damaged
products.
2. Secure the bed in a locked position.
3. Raise the head of the bed to a 45-degree angle.
4. Position the connecting strap underneath the middle of the
mattress. The left and right adjoining sections should be positioned on either side of the mattress.
5. Starting with one side, gently pull the side rail protector using the
sewn in handles over the upper side rail. Then, pull the protector over the bottom side rail and adjust to fit.
6. Repeat step 5 on the opposite side rails.
7. Check for proper fit. Modified beds may not be compatible with
Posey Elastic Mesh Side Rail Protectors.
Application Instructions - 5707H:
The Posey Half Rail Mesh Protector is designed for use on either the upper or lower side rails of healthcare beds that feature split side rails, or on homecare beds with half side rails. The Posey Half Rail Mesh Protector will expand from 30” to 36” (76 cm x 91 cm).
1. Inspect product prior to use. DO NOT use soiled or damaged products.
2. Secure the bed in a locked position.
3. Detach the hook and loop straps on both sides of the connecting
strap.
4. Position the connecting strap underneath the mattress. The left
and right adjoining sections should be positioned on either side of the mattress.
5. Starting with one side, gently pull the side rail protector using the
sewn in handles over the front end of the side rail. Then, pull the protector over the back end of the side rail and adjust to fit.
6. Repeat step 5 on the opposite side rails.
7. Reattach the hook and loop straps to the under mattress
connecting strap.

8. Check for proper fit. Modified beds may not be compatible with
Posey Elastic Mesh Side Rail Protectors.
Removal Instructions:
1. If necessary, the Posey Side Rail Protector can be removed by grasping the handles at either end and lifting upward. Allow the side rail protector to retract to a relaxed position before releasing.
2. The side rail protector is designed to hang from the under mattress connecting strap, and may be tucked underneath the mattress during the day until reapplication, or for complete removal if desired.
If complete removal of the side rail protector is necessary, follow
Steps 1 and 2, then tuck one side of the side rail protector under the middle of the mattress and gently pull out the remainder of the side rail protector from either side of the bed.
Posey Elastic Mesh Side Rail Protectors will not support weight, nor prevent patients who attempt to climb over the side rail from entanglement in the gap between the two half rails.
1. DO NOT pin or clip anything to the side rail protector. Attach call
bell and bed controls only to the four designated areas (bow straps) on side rail protector to prevent pins from tearing elastic mesh.
2. The side rail protector was designed as a protective device and
not a restrictive device. They are not to be used in lieu of restraints if indicated for patient safety.
3. The side rail protector was designed for patient protection, NOT
as a substitute for nursing observation.
4. Application of the side rail protector must be in accordance with
your hospital’s policy and procedure manual.
Laundry Instructions:
This product was designed to be washed under CDC recommendations for linen soiled with blood or bodily fluids:
Lower temperature washing and drying cycle for non-contaminated linen will prolong product life.
Disposal
Properly dispose of the product per facility’s policy for
BIOHAZARDOUS materials.
Storage and Handling
This device is designed for use in normal indoor environments. This device may be stored in ambient warehouse temperatures at normal humidity levels. Avoid excess moisture or high humidity that may damage product materials.
