tools away and keep out of reach of children!
4. For your own safety do not use the ULTRA Mk2 for a purpose for which it was not
intended. Do not sharpen damaged chains.
5. Never operate the ULTRA Mk2 without the grinding wheel cover in place. Keep away
from the wheel when it is turning, and make sure no one is standing close, in the line
of the wheel rotation trajectory.
6. For your own safety always unplug the ULTRA Mk2 when undertaking any inspections,
servicing, maintenance, cleaning or changing accessories.
7. Routinely check for damage before use. Do not operate if the machine if it does not
work correctly or has been dropped. Do not disassemble the ULTRA Mk2 and do not
try to repair it yourself - contact your customer support!
8. Do not use a grinding wheel that is chipped, cracked, or worn. You can check if the
wheel has cracks not visible to the human eye by hanging it up by the central hole
and tapping it with a non-metal object (ie: screwdriver handle). If it is in good
condition it will produce a metallic sound. A dull sound indicates a crack or break.
Safety Warnings and Precautions

Before First Use
Unpack the ULTRA Mk2 and check all parts for any damage. Dispose of the packaging
materials and read the instruction manual carefully. The ULTRA Mk2 is supplied partly
assembled, please assemble the machine as follows:
Work Surface Mounting
1. Place the unit base plate on to a solid, level work
surface. Ensure the base plate extends out far
enough over the edge so that the chain can hang
freely and you have easy access to the vice angle
adjustment screw under the base plate. Mount the
base plate to the work surface using mounting
holes ‘H1’.
Wall Mounting
1. Mount the machine approximately 120 cm from the
floor using the ‘H2’ mounting holes. Ensure the
machine is mounted with enough distance from the
wall to allow easy access to the top plate angle
fixing screw.
2. Fasten the motor assembly onto the base plate
using the bolt included. Fasten the bolt with the
fixing screw and two washers.
3. Mount the handle onto the motor assembly by using the hex bolt, tightening the bolt
securely.

WARNING: Before connecting the machine to the mains power, make
sure the machine is switched ‘OFF’ to avoid unintended starting!
1. Inspect the chain for the most worn-out cutter tooth and start sharpening with this
tooth. The most worn-out tooth is important in order to sharpen all other teeth to the
same depth!
2. Lift up the chain stop.
3. Check the necessary angle according to the specifications for the chain (see table).
Adjust the top plate cutting angle to 60° - 50° and retighten fixing screw.
4. Adjust the filing angle on the chain holder assembly to 25° - 35° or to the required
angle and tighten the adjustment screw for the vice angle.
5. Tighten the chain between the metal guide boards. Fold down the chain stop and pull
back the first cutter tooth against the chain stop.
6. Check the alignment is correct. Using the handle pull down the grinding wheel to
meet the cutter tooth. For fine adjustment of the chain position use the chain stop
adjustment screw. If the position is correct, fix the position with the locking screw.
Fine adjustment of the chain stop have to be made with the screw for lateral
adjustment.
7. If necessary the distance of the guide boards can be adjusted with the set screw. By
doing this the chain will be securely fixed in position while using the fastening lever.
Make sure the chain is between both guide boards. Both guide boards have to be so
closely connected that the chain can not tilt to the side.
Operation of ULTRA Mk2

8. Adjust the maximum sharpening depth with the screw for depth stop, and fix this
position with the locking screw.
9. Switch ‘ON’ the ULTRA Mk2 by pressing firmly. Use the handle to bring the grinding
wheel down towards the cutter tooth.
10. Once sharpened mark the first cutter tooth with chalk. Sharpen every second tooth in
one direction. Then change the cutting angle to 30° or to the need of the angle of the
opposite direction.
• DO NOT move the chain holder whilst the machine is in operation!
• Most chainsaws chains have a filing edge angle of 25° or
30°. The filing edge is usually printed on the package of
a new chain. If you do not know the exact filing angle of
the chain, it is normally sufficient to estimate by sight.
Position the grinding wheel as shown in the drawing.

To avoid malfunction, damage or injury always use a suitable grinding wheel that is in
good condition. Do not use a grinding wheel that is chipped, cracked, or worn. You can
check if the wheel has cracks not visible to the human eye by hanging it up by the
central hole and tapping it with a non-metal object (ie: screwdriver handle). If it is in
good condition it will produce a metallic sound. A dull sound indicates a crack or break.
Make sure before carrying out any work on the ULTRA Mk2 that the plug is disconnected
from the mains power.
Changing the Grinding Wheel
1. Switch off the machine and unplug from
the main power source.
2. Remove the grinding wheel protective
cover by unscrewing the 3 retaining
bolts with the allen key included.
3. Hold the grinding wheel firmly with one
hand and loosen the fixing nut with the
socket wrench.
4. Remove the old grinding wheel and
replace with a new one. Tighten the
fixing nut but do not over tighten - over tightening may cause the wheel to crack or
break. Only use grinding wheels with an outer diameter of 145mm and inner
diameter of 22mm. The grinding speed of replacement grinding wheel must meet or
exceed the RPM rating of the machine.
5. Remount the grinding wheel protective cover onto the machine. Never operate the
ULTRA Mk2 without the grinding wheel cover in place. Keep away from the wheel
when it is turning, and make sure no one is standing close, in the line of the wheel
rotation trajectory. If the grinding wheel vibrates on start up, turn off the machine
immediately and check that the grinding wheel is mounted securely!
6 Never try to stop the grinding wheel with your hands, even if you are wearing safety
gloves. The grinding wheel will cut through gloves and your hand, causing serious
injury.
Grinding Wheel Replacement

1. Switch off the machine and unplug from
the main power source. Allow the work
light bulb to cool before replacing.
2. Prior to replacing the work light,
remove the grinding wheel protective
cover. Only use bulbs of the same type
and dimensions (230V, 15W).
Work Light Replacement
Do not clean the ULTRA Mk2 with aggressive detergents or aggressive chemicals.
Clean the ULTRA Mk2 from time to time with a dry paint brush or a brush in order to
remove any build up of grinding residues.
The machine is maintenance free and does not require any lubrication!
Maintenance of the ULTRA Mk2
The position of the chain holder assembly for grinding the depth gauge has to be set to
0°. Adjust the motor assembly to the position 90°. Grind the depth gauge with a flat file.
Grinding the Depth Gauge

Before beginning to sharpen chainsaw chain please carefully read the following hints:
• A chain consists of several cutter links,
drive links and tie straps. The cutter links
consist of the cutting tooth and the depth
gauge.
• The pitch of the chain is measured in
inches. The pitch is determined by
measuring the distance ‘A’ of the three
rivets and dividing by two.
Example: 8.25
mm = .325”
• Example of a chain description: .325”/1.3
- 56. Where .325” stands for the chain
pitch, 1.3 mm stands for the width of
drive links, 56 stand for the number of
drive links.
• The top plate cutting angle is important inorder to chisel out
wood fibres and lift them up and out of the kerf. For most
chains the top plate cutting angle has to be 60°.
• The filing angle will be reduced each time the chain is
sharpened. To ensure ultimate cutting performance, the depth gauge has to be
reduced too. The depth gauge setting in respect to the top plate is approximately
.025” = 0.64mm. Make sure that all depth gauges are the same.

• The filing angle must be equal for all cutting teeth. The angle has to be approximately
25° - 35° according to the chain type. The chain consists of left and right teeth.
• Sharpening teeth to unequal blade lengths can cause a side drift when sawing;
resulting in unwanted inclined saw cuts.
• Before you start to sharpen the chainsaw chain carefully check it for damage, such as:
bent or broken drive links, broken cutter teeth, loose rivets or broken rivet heads. If
any damage if found, replace the whole chainsaw chain or have the damage by an
authorized service centre.
• Badly sharpened chains increase the risk of kickback.
• When the cutter teeth are reduced for more then 4mm the chain should not be used
any more and should be disposed of.
• A sharp chainsaw chain produces large cutting chips and pulls itself automatically into
the timber. When it begins to become blunt, or starts to show signs of abrasion,
progressively saw-dust will form during any cutting operation. You have to sharpen
the chain when you notice that excessive force is needed to cut through the timber
and the saw does not “pull” anymore.
