Your vehicle’s instrument panel is equipped with this cluster or one very similar to it. The instrument panel cluster includes these key features:

IMPORTANT: The instrument panel cluster is designed to let you know about many important aspects of your vehicle’s operation. It is impor­tant to read your Owner Manual and become familiar with the information being relayed to you by the lights, gauges and indicators, as well as what action can be taken to ensure safety and to prevent damage.

Driver Information Center (DIC) (if equipped)
The Driver Information Center (DIC) can display a compass, trip information, fuel economy information, personalization features and other messages or warn­ings. The DIC display is located on the instrument cluster directly above the steering column. The DIC controls include MODE and SET buttons and are located to the right of the instrument panel cluster.
MODE: Press this button to cycle through the options on the display.
SET: After selecting the mode you wish to view, use the SET button to toggle between choices or select the desired setting.
Pressing the MODE button repeatedly will scroll through the following driver information levels:
• Average fuel economy (AVG ECONOMY) calculates how many miles per gallon you are getting based on overall driving conditions.
• Instant Economy (INST ECONOMY) calculates miles per gallon being returned at a particular moment.
• Fuel Range (RANGE) estimates the remaining distance you can drive without refueling. It is based on recent fuel economy and remaining fuel.
• FUEL USED displays the amount of fuel that has been used since it was last reset.
• Average Speed (AVG SPEED) shows the vehicle’s average speed since being started. To reset it, press the MODE button until “AVG SPEED” is displayed; then press and hold the SET button until the speed displayed is replaced by your current speed.
• Oil Life Left (OIL LIFE LEFT HOLD SET TO RESET) displays the percentage of engine oil life remaining before an oil/oil filter change is needed. Reset this GM Oil Life Indicator only when the oil is changed. To reset it, press the DIC MODE button until “OIL LIFE LEFT HOLD SET TO RESET” is displayed; then press and hold the SET button until “100%” is displayed and the CHANGE ENGINE OIL light on the instrument panel turns off.

• “TIRE PRESSURE” indicates a large pressure change in one tire, when the vehicle is moving. See Section 5 of the Owner Manual for full details.
• “USE SET TO SELECT ENGLISH METRIC” allows you to select English or metric units of measure; the SET button toggles between the choices.
• OFF turns off the DIC display three seconds after it is selected. Press the MODE button to turn the display back on.

Personalizing the DIC
Your DIC can be programmed to recall personalized settings for up to two driv­ers. The settings will be automatically recalled when using your Remote
Keyless Entry System transmitter (key fob). After pressing the LOCK but-
ton on the key fob (and with the ignition On), the DIC will display the driver num­ber and then recall the features that were programmed to correspond to that key fob. If you unlock your vehicle using the key instead of your key fob, the DIC will recall the settings from the last key fob used.
To program features:
• Enter Programming Mode by turning the ignition key to ON with the transmission in Park.
• Repeatedly press and release the MODE button until “PRESS SET TO BEGIN PERSONALIZATION” is displayed.
• Press the SET button. On the display, “TO SELECT DRIVER PRESS REMOTE LOCK” appears.
• Press the LOCK button on your key fob transmitter. This identifies you with the key fob signal and, if key fob transmitter #1 is being used, identi­fies the transmitter number by dis­playing “PERSONALIZATION FOR DRIVER 1.” If key fob transmitter #2 is being used, the DIC identifies the transmitter number by displaying “PERSONALIZATION FOR DRIVER 2.”
• The PROGRAM MODE message in the display center indicates that it is ready to begin programming.
Follow the DIC instructions on the display to personalize each of the following:
• Headlamp exit delay
• Interior lighting delay
• Interior lighting on
• Auto door lock/unlock
• Delayed locking
• Remote door unlock
• Lock/unlock feedback
Exiting Programming Mode
When you have reached the end of the entire personalization list by pressing the MODE button, the “PERSONALIZA­TION SELECTION DONE” message appears on the DIC display, followed by “PRESS SET TO EXIT MODE TO CON­TINUE.” To go back through the list again, press MODE. If you are satisfied with your settings, press SET. You can also exit programming mode by:
• Shifting the vehicle out of Park (P)
• Turning the ignition key out of the ON position
• Not programming any commands for one minute, while in the programming mode
Note: If equipped with DIC, when the outside temperature is below 38°F, the display will flash between “ICE” and the current temperature for two minutes after starting the vehicle. This safety feature warns of possible icy conditions and that caution should be taken when driving.

Compass Calibration (if equipped)
The vehicle’s compass heading is shown on the DIC display. In some instances, the compass may not be fully calibrated from the factory, resulting in the letter “C” for calibration appearing on the DIC. Should this condition occur, find a large area free from metal objects and drive in a continuous circle three times to calibrate the compass. The compass will subsequently calibrate itself.
Also note that there is a difference between magnetic north and geographic (“true”) north, which is great enough in some areas of the country to give a false reading. In this case, manual calibration is required. See Section 3 of your Owner Manual to manually calibrate the compass.

Auto Door Lock/Unlock
The DIC (optional) is factory-set to auto­matically lock all doors when all doors are closed, the engine is running and the shift lever is moved out of the Park (P) position. All of the doors will also unlock automatically after the vehicle has been shifted back into Park. Using the DIC MODE and SET buttons, you can personalize the automatic lock/unlock to one of several different settings:
• OFF: When the shift lever is put in
Park, the doors will not unlock automatically.
• DRIVER: When the shift lever is put
in Park, only the driver’s door will unlock automatically.
• ALL: When the shift lever is put in Park, all doors will unlock auto­matically (original factory setting).
If the DRIVER or ALL setting is selected, you can also choose additional settings:
• PARK:Automatically unlocks the selected door(s) when the shift lever is placed into Park (original factory setting).
• KEY OUT: Unlocks the door(s) when the ignition key is removed.

Daytime Running Lamps (DRL)
The DRL safety feature illuminates the headlamps at a reduced intensity during the day to make the front of the vehicle more visible to others. This feature can be of particular help in the short periods just after dawn and shortly before sunset. The DRL illuminates only the headlamps — not the taillamps or side-marker lamps.

Headlamp Controls
The exterior lamps knob is located on the instrument panel, to the left of the steering wheel. The AUTO position acti­vates the automatic headlamp system that illuminates all exterior lamps and the instrument panel/radio lights when they are needed. The position man­ually illuminates the taillamps and the instrument panel/radio lights. The position manually activates the head­lamps, all exterior tail/side-marker lamps and the instrument panel/radio lights.

Automatic Headlamp System
If the headlamp rotary knob is in the AUTO position during daytime driving, it may temporarily switch the headlamp and interior light systems, including the radio display, to the nighttime mode. This occurs when passing through dark­er conditions, such as under a bridge or overpass, or inside a parking garage. The light sensor is located on top of the instrument panel. To ensure proper sys­tem operation, avoid placing objects or stickers on or near the sensor.
Turning Off the Automatic Headlamps or Daytime Running Lamps (DRL)
Turning off your vehicle’s automatic headlamp system or DRL requires the vehicle to be parked. Then, apply the parking brake before turning on the igni­tion. This will keep the headlamps from coming on automatically. However, upon releasing the parking brake, the auto­matic headlamp control will resume operation.

Fog Lamps
The Fog Lamps button is located in the center of the exterior lamps switch that controls the parking lamps and headlamps. To activate the fog lamps, press the FOG PUSH button. To turn them off, press the button again or turn off the ignition. The fog lamps automatically turn off when you activate the headlamp high beams, and come back on when the low beams are turned back on. Use of high beams in fog is not recommended.
Note: To use the fog lamps, they must be turned on each time you start the vehicle.

Interior Lamps
The interior lamp control on the instru­ment panel can be set to:
• OFF, which disables the interior
lamps entirely, whether or not a door is open
• DOOR, which turns on the interior
lamps when a door is opened
• ON, which turns the interior lamps on
continuously
To adjust instrument panel lamp bright­ness, press on the center of the interior lamp control and it will extend. Twist the knob to achieve the desired illumination level, and push the control knob to its stored position.
Manual Climate Control System
To cool the vehicle interior more quickly on very hot days, open the windows just long enough to let the hot air escape. For quick cooling, press the button to activate the recirculation mode.
Use the Mode knob on the right of the heat and A/C control panel to direct air to the instrument panel vents (VENT), half to the instrument panel vents and half to the floor (BI-LEVEL), the floor (FLOOR), or to the windshield to defog or defrost .
Regulate the airflow by turning the fan control knob ( ) clockwise for more air volume.

Note: If the interior lamps do not illumi­nate when opening a door, most likely the lamp control is in the “Off” position (see instructions above).

Dual Manual Climate Control System (if equipped)
Your vehicle may be equipped with a climate control system that allows the driver and front seat passenger to use separate temperature levers that per­sonalize the desired temperature to the corresponding seating position.
All other heating, ventilation and air conditioning controls operate similarly to the manual climate control system.

OnStar®(if equipped)
If your vehicle is OnStar-equipped, the OnStar system provides in-vehicle safe­ty, security and communications servic­es, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. With OnStar, you can enjoy such available services as:
• Automatic notification of air bag deployment
• Emergency services assistance
• Roadside assistance
• Stolen vehicle tracking
• GM Goodwrench remote diagnostics
• Remote door unlock
• Routing and location assistance*
• OnStar Personal Calling, a hands­free, voice-activated communications service **
These services are easily accessed through the three OnStar buttons in your vehicle.
• Press the Blue OnStar Button to connect to an OnStar Advisor for services such as GM Goodwrench Remote Diagnostics or routing and location assistance.*
• Press the Phone Button to access OnStar Personal Calling, a hands­free, voice-activated communications service.**
• Press the Red Emergency Button to connect to an OnStar Advisor who can contact a nearby emergency services provider to dispatch ambu­lance, police, fire, or other emergency services to your location.

Seats
Heated Seats (Optional):
For additional comfort during cold weath­er, the front seats can be heated. The buttons to con­trol this feature are located on the instrument panel switchbank. The left switch is for the driver seat and the right switch is for the front passenger seat. Press the top of the switch to turn the heater on and the bottom of the switch to turn if off. The switch will turn off when the ignition is turned to Off, and, if left in the on position, it will turn on when the vehicle is restarted.
Second-Row Folding Seat: When fold­ing the second-row seat forward, ensure that the center head restraint is placed in its lowest position to prevent contact with the front floor console storage area.

Entertainment Systems
Opening the Vehicle Hood
To open the hood, pull the hood release handle locat­ed under the driver’s side of the instru­ment panel.
Then, under the leading edge of the hood itself, slide the secondary hood
Radio Data System (RDS): Your RDS­equipped radio has the capability to:
• Seek only radio stations with the program types you prefer (such as Jazz, Rock, and News)
• Seek stations with traffic announcements
• Receive announcements concerning local and national emergencies
• Receive and display messages from radio stations
RDS features work only on FM stations that broadcast RDS information. These features work only when the station broadcasts the RDS.

Speed-Compensated Volume (SCV):
Your audio system can compensate automatically for wind and road noise that comes with increased speed. Set volume at the desired level; then press the AUTO VOLbutton repeatedly to dis­play your choice of OFF, MIN, MED or MAX setting. Each higher setting adds more volume compensation at increased speeds. Choose OFF to disable SCV.
Radio with Six-Disc CD (optional): To load one CD on vehicles equipped with the radio/six-disc CD, perform the fol­lowing steps:
1. Turn the ignition on and then press and hold the LOAD button for two seconds. The unit beeps and the light to the right of the slot begins to flash.
Rear Seat Entertainment (optional):
Available rear-seat entertainment includes:
• An audio system
• A DVD player
• Wireless headphones with an On/Off and Volume control
• RCA jacks on the overhead console for a camcorder, video game unit or other auxiliary device
• Mini-headphone jacks on the over­head console for use with auxiliary devices
• A video screen located in the over­head console
Playing DVDs in Temperature Extremes: The optional DVD player’s
operating temperature range is between
-4° F and 140° F. When temperatures
are outside this range, shut off the entertainment system, pull down the video screen, and heat or cool the vehi­cle until the operating range is reached.

2. When the light stops flashing and turns green, insert a disc partway, label side up.
To load multiple CDs in the Six-Disc CD Player, follow the above steps.
• When more than one disc is loaded, a number for each disc is displayed.
• To play a specific CD, press the CD AUX button and then the number of the CD you want to hear.
• A small bar appears under the CD number that is playing, and the track number appears.

Console/Cooler (if equipped)
This feature can store up to twelve 12-ounce cans, compact discs or cassette tapes and has a coinholder.
To open the console/cooler, move the handle fully down toward the passenger seat and then lift the lid. To remove the console/cooler from the vehicle, lift the handle fully upward and remove it.
To secure it back into place, position it in its storage area and push the handle down to the driver’s side until you hear a click. Move it from side to side to ensure that it’s in place.
Important: To secure the console/ cooler, closed and in place, the handle must be latched down toward the driver’s seat. To access the cooler’s contents, the handle must be on the passenger side.
Content Theft-Deterrent System (if equipped)
The Content Theft-Deterrent System has a red indicator lamp atop the center of the instrument panel that flash­es slowly when the system is armed. After closing all vehicle doors, the sys­tem can be activated in two ways:
• Press the LOCK button on the Remote Keyless Entry key fob.
• Press the power door LOCK switch with the door open and the key removed from the ignition.
The alarm is armed when the indicator lamp on the top-center of the instrument panel begins blinking.
If the alarm is tripped, the horn sounds and the headlamps and parking lamps also flash. The alarm sounds whenever a locked door is opened without the key or Remote Keyless Entry System trans­mitter, or if someone tries to turn on the ignition without the correct key.

Opening the Liftgate
See Section 2 of your Owner Manual.
Your vehicle has a remote liftgate release button located in the instrument panel switchbank (shown). With the shift lever in Park (P) or Neutral (N), press this release button to open the liftgate. You can also open it from the outside of the vehicle by using the key in the liftgate

or by pressing REAR on the Remote Keyless Entry System key fob transmitter.
When the liftgate is opened, reach inside the tailgate to lift the handle and open the tailgate. When closing them, always close the tailgate first. Closing the liftgate first can result in damage or breakage.

Sliding Rear Convenience Tray (if equipped)
This feature makes it easier to load, organize and remove items from the rear of your vehicle. To use the tray:
• Push the release lever located in front of the handle of the tray to release it from the floor assembly.
• Pull the tray toward you until you hear a click, indicating the tray is in the extended locked position.
• Push the release lever again and roll the tray back into the vehicle until hearing a click, indicating the tray’s locked position.
Note: Under normal driving conditions, the tray’s latching mechanism provides sufficient retention. However, the tray’s tether strap provides added safety in the event of a collision. The strap does not affect the tray’s ability to be maneuvered into the vehicle or over the tailgate.

Adjusting the Roof Rack Crossbows (if equipped)
If your vehicle is equipped with a sun­roof, you will need to first remove the sunroof stop in order to adjust the roof rack crossbows. To remove the sunroof stop, use the special tool located in the glove box, and then:
• Place the tool on the screw located in the side rail assembly in front of the crossbow.
• Remove the screw and repeat for the other side.
• Put the tools and screw back in the plastic bag in the glove box.
Adjusting the Rails:
• Lift the release lever on each side of the crossbow (unlocked position). Slide the crossbows forward or backward to accommodate various size loads as needed.
• Engage the release lever to lock the crossbows in place.
Replacing the Sunroof Stop:
• Place the rear crossbow in the fully rear position.
• Move the front crossbow rearward of the sunroof stop screw hole. Put the screws back into each siderail assembly.
Important: Do not open the sunroof (if equipped) if the crossbows are not in the fully rear position, as damage could result to the sunroof glass panel and/or crossbows.

Rear Door Security Locks
To prevent rear seat passengers from opening the rear doors from the inside:
• Open a rear door and locate the lock on the inside of the door.
• Slide the lever to the Lock position.
Repeat the process for the other rear door. To disable this feature, reverse the process.

LATCH System
Your vehicle is equipped with the Lower Anchorages and Top Tethers for CHildren (LATCH) system, which requires a special, compatible Child Restraint Seat in order to use the LATCH system. (See your Owner Manual for full instructions for securing conven­tional and LATCH-compatible child restraints in your Aztek.)
LATCH locations are located below the contrasting fabric dots on second-row split-bench seats (shown). There are two LATCH locations provided in the second row (both outboard seating positions).

Rear Center Shoulder Belt
The rear seat’s center shoulder belt stows over­head. To use it, remove it from its stowage location, pull it down and attach it to the belt buckle, inserting its knob through the buckle key­hole. This com­pletes the three-point belt routing. The elastic strap stored under the driver-side head restraint connects with a sliding loop on the belt. Hook the elastic strap to the loop, as shown, to lower the routing of the belt as needed for maximum comfort.

All-Wheel Drive (AWD) System (if equipped)
AWD-equipped vehicles automatically transfer power to the rear wheels when the front wheels begin to slip. No action by the driver is required. There may be a slight noise when the system engages; this is normal.

Automatic Level Control (if equipped)
Vehicles equipped with this feature may produce an occasional “whirring” sound under the rear of the vehicle. Under heavier rear loads, this noise indicates that the system air compressor is oper­ating to provide a level ride height, and is normal.

Traction Control System (TCS) (if equipped)
Vehicles equipped with Traction Control System (TCS) limit wheelspin. TCS only operates when it senses that one or both of the front wheels are beginning to lose traction. When this happens, the system operates the front brakes and reduces engine power to limit wheel­spin. It is normal to hear or feel the sys­tem working. TCS is automatically enabled whenever you start the vehicle. You can disable it if your vehicle ever gets stuck in sand, mud or snow and it is necessary to rock the vehicle to free it. To disable TCS, press the TRAC OFF button located on the instrument panel switchbank. The TRAC OFF light will illuminate. Enable the system by press­ing the TRAC OFF button again. The TRAC OFF light will darken.

Setting Up the Tent (if equipped)
Note: Before getting started, make sure
your Aztek’s engine and exhaust have cooled to prevent injury and damage to the tent.
•
Open the hatch and lower the tailgate.
• Unroll the tent and slip it over the hatch with the Aztek logo facing outward.
• Install the hatch strut supports to keep the hatch from inadvertently closing. Place one support on each side, starting from the bottom and working your way up.
• Once the tent is supported by the hatch, cover the bumper with the fabric at the bottom of the tent.
• Locate the two attaching straps at the leading edge of the tent. Secure them to the roof rail tie-down ring on top of the vehicle.
• Locate the two attachment points on the passenger side wheel well. One is a hole in the wheel well, the other is the edge of the frame. Using these points, clip on the attached hooks (repeat procedure on driver’s side).
• Locate and assemble the fiberglass tent pole to its full length. Ensure that each of the nine segments is firmly seated at its connection point.
• Feed the pole through the nylon sleeve located above the tent’s zipper door.

• Insert the ends of the poles through the tent’s bottom corner pockets.
• Secure the hooks at the sides of the tent to the pole.
• To remove slack at the bottom of the tent, buckle the tent’s cinch straps (located under the tailgate) and cinch them tightly.
Fuel Economy
A variety of factors can affect your fuel economy. They include:
• Vehicle maintenance
• Driving technique
• Proper tire pressure
• Vehicle loads
• Roof (luggage) rack use
• Trailering
• Air temperature/density; headwinds For best fuel economy:
• Drive with the transaxle selector in Automatic Overdrive (D)
• Use only your right foot to activate the brake pedal
• Avoid “jackrabbit” starts and maintain a set speed during steady-state driving
• Maintain proper tire pressure (check with every fuel-up)
• Keep the vehicle on the recommended maintenance schedule
• Load cargo on the roof rack for long trips only when necessary
• Understand that trailering reduces fuel economy

Roadside Assistance

premium Pontiac Roadside Assistance to customers for vehicles covered under the 3-year/36,000 mile (60,000 km) new car warranty (whichever occurs first).
As the owner of a 2005 Aztek, you are automatically eligible for Pontiac Roadside Assistance. Membership is free; however, some services may incur costs. Pontiac Roadside Assistance is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
We will provide the following services for 3 years/36,000 miles (60,000 km), at no expense to you.
• Fuel delivery
• Lockout service (identification required)
• Tow to nearest dealership for warranty service
• Change a flat tire
• Jump starts
For prompt and efficient assistance when calling, please provide the follow­ing information to the advisor:
• Location of the vehicle
• Telephone number of your location
• Vehicle model, year and color
• Vehicle mileage
• Vehicle ldentification Number (VIN)
• Vehicle license plate number For problems that cannot be resolved
over the phone, our advisors have access to a nationwide network of deal­er-recommended service providers.
