2. Allgemeine Funktionsbeschreibung
Die Geräte der ESM-Familie sind Schaltmatrizen und ermöglichen die flexible Signalzuführung im SAT-ZF- und terrestrischen Bereich. Sie verfügen über 17 Signaleingänge, 16 für SAT-ZF und 1 für den terrestrischen Bereich sowie
über 16 Ausgänge. Das terrestrische Signal wird dabei an jedem Ausgang zusammen mit dem SAT-ZF-Signal zur
Verfügung gestellt. Die 16 SAT-ZF-Eingänge sind in 4 Gruppen zu jeweils 4 Eingängen zusammengefasst. Grundsätzlich kann aber jeder Eingang mit einem beliebigen SAT-ZF-Signal belegt werden. An jedem SAT-ZF-Eingang
liegt fest eine 15 V Speisespannung an. Je nach Gerätetyp ist zusätzlich eine webbasierte Steuerung für das Routing der Eingangssignale auf beliebige Ausgänge und eine Netzteilredundanz integriert.
Die Baugruppen arbeiten autark und sind als 19“, 1HE Geräte ausgeführt. Damit sind die Geräte für die individuelle
Signalversorgung von Aufbereitungs- und Verteilanlagen, Überwachungs- und Aufnahmesystemen als auch für Testund Prüfplätze optimal einsetzbar.

Nach einem Netzausfall bleiben alle Daten erhalten.

5. Montage und Erdung
Die Montage der SAT-ZF-Schaltmatrix kann im 19“ Rack oder via eines Winkels an einer Wand erfolgen. Die Umgebungstemperatur darf maximal 55 °C betragen. Zur Montage oder bei Arbeiten an der Verkabelung muss der
Netzstecker gezogen werden.
Das Gerät muss gemäß EN 60728-11 geerdet werden. Dazu die Kabelisolierung des Erdungskabels (4 mm2) um ca.
15 mm abisolieren. Das abisolierte Ende unter die Erdungsschraube schieben und die Schraube fest anziehen.

6. Inbetriebnahme des ESM (ohne Konfiguration)
Alle Montage- und Anschlussarbeiten müssen im spannungslosen Zustand erfolgen! Es sind die Sicherheitshinweise
(siehe Abschnitt 1) zu beachten.
Die SAT-ZF-Signale und das terrestrische Signal sind mittels geeigneter Kabel an den zugehörigen Anschlüssen auf
der Geräterückseite einzuspeisen. Die Ausgangs-Anschlüsse sind auf der Vorderseite des Gerätes.
Sind alle Signalverkabelungen vorgenommen worden, kann das Stromversorgungskabel angeschlossen und damit
das Gerät eingeschaltet werden. Der Betriebsstatus wird via LEDs an der Frontblende angezeigt.
HINWEIS
Bei Auslieferung sind identische Netzwerkparameter bei allen Geräten eingestellt! Die Einrichtung und Konfiguration
mehrerer Geräte innerhalb eines Netzwerkes muss daher Schrittweise erfolgen.
7. Grundeinstellungen im Auslieferzustand
Die ESM-Geräte sind im Auslieferzustand mit den nachfolgenden Parametern vorkonfiguriert.
HINWEIS
Der Auslieferzustand für die Netzwerkkonfiguration sowie die Zugangsdaten können jederzeit durch einen gezielten
Rücksetz-Vorgang wiederhergestellt werden. Dazu muss zunächst der Netzstecker vom Stromnetz getrennt werden.
Anschließend bitte den Taster Reset auf der Geräterückseite drücken und gedrückt halten und den Netzstecker
wieder mit dem Stromnetz verbinden. Nach kurzer Zeit blinkt die Status LED neben dem Taster im Wechsel rot/grün
und der Taster kann losgelassen werden. Die Netzwerkparameter werden auf die Werte in der folgenden Tabelle
eingestellt.

8. Programmierung über das Ethernet-Interface (ESM 1716 WEB, ESM 1716 WEB RS)
Sollen Änderungen an der Grundkonfiguration via Ethernet-Interface vorgenommen werden, so ist die jeweilige
HTML-Bedienoberfläche über einen angeschlossenen Computer aufzurufen. Als Bedienprogramm wird ein Internetbrowser benötigt.
8.1 Netzwerkverbindung zum Computer
Systemvoraussetzungen:
PC/Laptop mit Ethernet-Schnittstelle 10/100Mbps
Internetbrowser (z.B. Windows Internet-Explorer, Mozilla Firefox o.ä.)
Hinweis zum Einrichten einer Netzwerkverbindung:
PC und ESM-Gerät werden über ein Ethernet-Kabel mit dem Netzwerk verbunden. Wird das ESM-Gerät direkt an
den PC angeschlossen, ist ein Ethernet-Kabel mit gekreuzten Aderpaaren (Crossover Kabel) zu verwenden. Für die
Verbindungsaufnahme müssen zunächst die IP-Adressen der Geräte abgeglichen werden.
Im Auslieferzustand lautet die ESM IP-Adresse: 192.168.001.128. Die Adresse des Netzwerkanschlusses im PC
muss an die IP-Adresse des ESM angepasst werden (Subnetmask: 255.255.255.0, IP-Adresse: 192.168.001.xxx).
xxx darf dabei nicht exakt mit der IP-Adresse des ESM-Gerätes übereinstimmen. Nicht erlaubt sind die Ziffern 0, 255
oder bereits verwendete IP-Adressen. Falls ein Proxyserver verwendet wird, ist dieser in den Netzverbindungen zu
deaktivieren. Diese Einstellungen werden am PC unter „Netzwerkverbindungen LAN-Verbindung“ vorgenommen.
Nach Individualisierung der IP-Adressen kann die Netzwerkverbindung zwischen den Geräten hergestellt werden.
Verbindungsaufbau:
Die IP-Adresse des Gerätes (Standard IP-Adresse: 192.168.001.128) in das Adressfeld des Browsers eingeben
und die Bestätigungstaste Enter drücken.
Die Verbindung zum Gerät wird hergestellt und das zugehörige Anmeldefenster dargestellt:

Der Zugang zum Konfigurationsmenü ist passwortgeschützt. Im Auslieferzustand lauten die Zugangsdaten:
Username: admin
Password: password
Anschließend den Button OK drücken, um die Verbindung aufzubauen.
HINWEIS
Sind Passwort oder Username nicht (oder nicht mehr) bekannt, kann über den Taster Reset auf der Rückseite des
Gerätes ein Rücksetzen in den Auslieferzustand erfolgen. Das Gerät erhält dadurch wieder die oben beschriebenen
Zugangsdaten sowie die werksseitigen Netzwerkparameter.

8.2 Menüpunkt „Overview“ (Menu
Overview)
Nach erfolgreicher Anmeldung wird das Übersichtsmenü Overview angezeigt. In diesem Menü erfolgt die Zuordnung der Ausgänge zu den entsprechenden Eingängen. Dies erfolgt durch Klicken in die jeweilige Spalte (z.B. System A HH) und Zeile (z.B. OUT 8). Danach wird ein grünes Häkchen an diesem Platz angezeigt. Weiterhin werden
in diesem Menü Informationen zum DC-Status, RF-Status, dem Redundanzverhalten und der Laufzeit des Gerätes
gegeben. Mit dem Refresh Button werden die angezeigten Statusmeldungen aktualisiert. Am Ende des Menüs befindet sich der Button Save, nach Betätigen werden die im Menü ausgewählten Werte eingestellt.

Location (Lokation)
In diesem Menüpunkt wird der Standort des Gerätes angezeigt. Dieser kann im Menüpunkt Network Settings
eingetragen werden.
OP Hours (Laufzeit)
In diesem Menüpunkt wird die Betriebszeit des Gerätes angezeigt.
Redundancy Status (Redundanzstatus)
Dieser Menüpunkt gibt Informationen zum aktuellen Status der Netzteil-Redundanzschaltung. Ein grüner Ha ken zeigt den fehlerfreien Betriebszustand der Redundanz an.
Wird ein rotes Kreuz angezeigt, so ist keine Redundanz aktiv.
RF Status (HF-Status)
Der RF Status dient der Überwachung der SAT-ZF-Eingangssignale. Ein grüner Haken zeigt an, ob ein Ein gangssignal an der entsprechenden SAT-Eingangsbuchse anliegt. Wird ein rotes Kreuz angezeigt, liegt am
zugeordneten Eingang kein oder ein zu schwaches Signal (<60 dBµV Summensignal) an.
DC Status
Der DC Status wird immer für die vierer Gruppe eines SAT-Eingangssignals (siehe Punkt 2.) angezeigt und
gibt Auskunft über mögliche Fehler an den SAT-ZF-Eingängen. Ein grüner Haken zeigt den fehlerfreien Be trieb an. Wird ein rotes Kreuz angezeigt, liegt an den zugeordneten Eingängen ein Fehler, z.B. Kurzschluss
auf der Zuleitung vor.

8.3 Menüpunkt „Network Settings“ (Menu Network Settings)
Im Menü Network Settings wird das Ethernet-Interface für das Management des Gerätes via Webbrowser konfiguriert. Es müssen die Einstellungen der IP-Adresse, Subnetzmaske, Gateway und des Management Ports an das
örtliche Netzwerk angepasst und damit individualisiert werden (siehe Punkt 8.1). Zusätzlich werden die MACAdresse des Gerätes und eine Information zum Verbindungs-Status angezeigt. Im Menüpunkt Location kann das
Gerät einem Standort zugeordnet werden. Der Name darf maximal 24 Zeichen enthalten. Am Ende des Menüs befindet sich der Button Save, nach Betätigen werden die im Menü ausgewählten Werte eingestellt. Danach erfolgt
automatisch ein Neustart des Gerätes, welcher bis zu einer Minute dauern kann.

8.4 Menüpunkt „Software Update“ (Menu Software Update)
Das Menü Software Update ermöglicht die Aktualisierung der internen Softwarekomponenten des Gerätes.
Voraussetzung ist, dass sich die aktuellste Software auf dem PC/Notebook befindet. Diese steht unter folgender

HINWEIS
Die Update-Anweisungen bitte sorgfältig ausführen. Während des Update-Vorganges das Gerät nicht ausschalten
und die Stromversorgung nicht unterbrechen. Die Anwahl einer falschen Update-Datei kann Fehlfunktionen im/am
Gerät bewirken. Eine Nichtbeachtung der Hinweise kann dazu führen, dass das Gerät nicht mehr reagiert und eine
Reparatur erforderlich ist.
Alle eingestellten Parameter bleiben nach dem Update erhalten.
Durch Betätigen des Buttons Select die Update-Datei (xxxx.bin) auf dem PC/Laptop auswählen und öffnen.
Es findet nun ein Abgleich der Software-Daten statt und die Felder mit den Software-Ständen werden farbig markiert.
Grün bedeutet: Software ist auf dem neusten Stand.
Orange bedeutet: Die geladene Software besitzt einen neueren Stand, ein Update ist möglich.
Die Software-Datei ist selektiv aktualisierbar. Hierzu in der Zeile Update die gewünschte Aktualisierung per Haken
anwählen und danach auf Upload klicken. Die Software-Datei wird nun auf das Gerät geladen. Danach wird der
ESM zurückgesetzt und die neue Software installiert.

8.5 Menüpunkt „Device Settings“ (Settings Save/Load Settings)
In diesem Menü stehen 3 Auswahlfelder, Save Settings, Save Overview und Load Settings zur Verfügung.
Durch Betätigen des Buttons Save im Unterpunkt Save Settings können alle Einstellungen auf einem PC/Notebook
gespeichert werden. Dazu sind ein Verzeichnis sowie ein Dateiname (z.B. settings.esm) einzugeben. Im Unterpunkt
Load Settings ist der Upload einer bestehenden Programmierung vom PC/Notebook auf das ESM-Gerät ESM 1716
WEB / ESM 1716 WEB RS möglich. Dazu den Button Select betätigen und anschließend die entsprechende
.esm-Datei (z.B. settings.esm) im Verzeichnis auswählen und öffnen. Die Daten werden innerhalb von ca. 10 Sekunden automatisch übernommen.
Der Unterpunkt Save Overview ermöglicht das Abspeichern der Übersicht als bearbeitbare RTF-Datei. Dazu den
Button Save betätigen und die Datei unter dem gewünschten Namen als xxxx.rtf ablegen. Das Dateiformat .rtf kann
z.B. mit Microsoft Word, Open Office oder WordPad geöffnet, bearbeitet und ausgedruckt werden.

8.6 Menüpunkt „Password Settings“ (Settings Password Settings)
Das Menü Password Settings ermöglicht die Änderung der Zugangsdaten zum Gerät und dadurch eine Erhöhung
der Zugangssicherheit.
Im Auslieferzustand sind der Username mit „admin“ und das Password mit „password“ belegt.
Ein Rücksetzen des Passwortes auf diese Einstellung kann durch Betätigen des Tasters Reset auf der Geräterück-
seite bewirkt werden.

Im Feld Username bei Bedarf einen neuen Benutzernamen (bestehend aus Buchstaben, Zahlen oder Sonderzeichen in beliebiger Reihenfolge und Länge) vergeben. Im Feld New Password das neue, mindestens 6-stellige,
Passwort (bestehend aus Buchstaben, Zahlen oder Sonderzeichen in beliebiger Reihenfolge) eingeben. Durch ein
grünes Häkchen wird bestätigt, dass das gewählte Passwort den Vorgaben entspricht. Danach das neue Passwort

im Feld Confirm Password erneut eingeben. Ein grünes Häkchen bestätigt, dass das Passwort zum vorher gewählten identisch ist. Durch Klicken auf Change Password wird das neue Passwort gespeichert.
HINWEIS
Nach Ändern/Speichern der neuen Anmeldedaten und dem nachfolgenden Aufruf einer anderen Eingabemaske
werden die Anmeldedaten erneut abgefragt.

2. General functional description
The devices of the ESM family are switch matrixes and enable a flexible signal feed of the SAT IF and terrestrial
range. The ESM devices have 17 signal inputs, 16 for SAT IF and 1 for the terrestrial range as well as 16 outputs.
The terrestrial signal is available at each output along with the SAT IF signal. The 16 SAT IF inputs are grouped into
4 groups with 4 inputs each. Usually all inputs can be assigned with any SAT IF signal. A fixed 15 V supply voltage is
active at each SAT IF input. Depending on the device type, an additional web-based control for the routing of the
input signals to any outputs and a power supply redundancy is integrated. The modules work independently and are
designed as 19”, 1 RU devices. Thus, these devices can be used for signal processing and distribution systems,
monitoring and recording systems as well as for control and test stations.
NOTE
After a power failure, all data is retained.

5. Mounting and grounding
The SAT IF switch matrix can be mounted into a 19“ rack or on a wall, by using the wall adaptor. The environmental
temperature may not exceed 55 °C. The main power should be disconnected for any work on the device.
The device must be grounded according to EN 60728-11 standard. The insulation of the grounding cable should be
stripped down approximately 15 mm and the cable must be fixed by using the grounding screw designated on the
device.

6. Commissioning of the ESM (without configuration)
All assembly and connection work must be carried out before the unit is connected to the mains voltage supply!
Observe the safety instructions (see section 1).
The SAT IF signals and the terrestrial signal must be fed into the corresponding connections on the back of the device using suitable cables. The output connectors are located at the front panel.
Once all signal cabling has been connected, the power supply cable can be connected and the device will switch on.
The operating status is indicated by LEDs on the front panel.
NOTE
At delivery, identical network parameters are set for all devices The setup and configuration of several devices within
a network must therefore be carried out with each unit connected one at a time .
7. Default settings on delivery (Factory settings)
The ESM devices are preconfigured at delivery with the following values:
NOTE
The unit can be reset to its delivery network configuration and access data status at any time using a specific reset
operation. Firstly remove the power plug from the mains. Then press and hold the button Reset, located at the rear
side of the device and reconnect the power plug to the mains. After a short time the status LED next to the button
flashes red/green and the button can then be released. The network parameters will now be set to the values shown
in the following table.

8. Programming via the Ethernet interface (ESM 1716 WEB, ESM 1716 WEB RS)
If changes are to be made to the basic configuration via the Ethernet interface, the respective HTML user interface
must be accessed via a connected computer. An internet browser is required as an operating program.
8.1 Network connection to the computer
System requirements:
PC/laptop with Ethernet interface 10/100 Mbps
Internet browser (e.g. Windows Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, or the like)
Note on setting up a network connection:
PC and ESM devices are connected to the network via an Ethernet cable. If the ESM device is connected directly to
the PC, use a crossed-link cable (crossover cable) for connection. For connection acquisition, the IP addresses of
the devices must first be matched.
In the delivery state, the ESM IP address is: 192.168.001.128. The address of the network connection in the PC
must be adapted to the IP address of the ESM (subnet mask: 255.255.255.0, IP address: 192.168.001.xxx). xxx
must not be exactly the same one as of the ESM devices. The digits 0, 255 or already used IP addresses are not
permitted. If a proxy server is used, it must be disabled in the network connections. These settings are made on the
PC under “Network connections LAN connection”. After individualization of the IP addresses, the network connection between the devices can be established.
Establishing a connection:
Enter the IP address of the device (default IP address: 192.168.001.128) into the address field of the browser and
press the Enter key to confirm.
The connection to the device is established and the associated login window is displayed:

The access to the configuration menu is password-protected. The default settings are as follows:
Username: admin
Password: password
Then click the OK button to establish the connection.
NOTE
If the password or user name is not known or forgotten, a reset can be carried out via the button Reset, located at
the rear side of the device. The device receives the access data and basic network parameters as described above.

8.2 Menu item ‘Overview’ (Menu
Overview)
After successful login, the Overview menu will be displayed. This menu is used to assign the outputs to the corresponding inputs. This can be done by clicking in the respective column (e.g. system A HH) and row (e.g. OUT 8).
After that, a green tick will be displayed in this field. Furthermore, information about the DC status, RF status, the
redundancy behavior and the run time of the device is given in this menu. The Refresh button updates the displayed
status. At the bottom of the menu, the button Save is located. After pressing this button the selected values will be
set.

Location
In this menu item the location of the device will be displayed. The Location can be edited in the menu item
Network Settings.
OP Hours
This menu item shows the operating time of the device.
Redundancy Status
This menu item provides information about the current status of the power supply redundancy. A green tick
shows that the redundancy is operating in an error-free state. If a red cross is displayed, no redundancy is
active.
RF Status
The RF status is used to monitor the SAT IF input signals. A green tick indicates if a signal is applied
to the corresponding SAT input connector. If a red cross is displayed, no or a too low input signal is present at
the assigned connector (<60 dBµV sum signal).
DC Status
The DC status is always displayed for a group of four SAT input signals (see point 2.) and provides in formation about possible errors on the SAT IF inputs. A green tick shows error free operation. If a red
cross is displayed, there is an error at the associated inputs, e.g. short circuit on the connected line.

8.3 Menu item ‘Network Settings’ (Menu Network Settings)
In the Menu Network Settings the Ethernet interface for the management of the device via web browser may be
configured. The values of the IP address, subnet mask, gateway and the management port must be adapted to the
local network -and individualized (see point 8.1). In addition, the MAC address of the device and information about
the connection status will be displayed. In the menu item Location, the device can be assigned to a location. The
name can contain a maximum of 24 characters. At the end of the menu, the button Save is located. After pressing
this button, the selected values will be set. Thereafter, a restart of the device takes place automatically, which can
take up to one minute.

8.4 Menu item 'Software Update‘ (Menu Software Update)
The menu Software Update allows the update of the internal software of the device.
The latest software is available for download at the following link: https://polytron.de/index.php/de/service/download.
This should be saved to the PC/notebook that is used to connect to the device.
NOTE
Please follow the update instructions carefully. Do not switch off the device or interrupt the power supply during the
update process. Selecting an incorrect update file may cause malfunction of the device. Failure to observe these
instructions may interrupt the update process and cause the unit to stop responding and require repair.
All set parameters are retained after the update.
Browse to the update file (xxxx.bin) on the PC/notebook by pressing the button Select
Now an automatic comparison of the software data will be done and the fields with the software versions will be highlighted in color.
Green: Software is up to date.
Orange: There is a newer software version and an update is possible.
The required software file can be selected from the list. To do this, select the desired update in the Update line (tick
in the box) and then click on Upload. The software file will now be uploaded to the device. After that, the ESM will
be rebooted and the new software is installed.

8.5 Menu item ‘Device Settings’ (Settings Save/Load Settings)
This menu contains of 3 fields, Save Settings, Save Overview and Load Settings.
By pressing the button Save in the sub menu Save Settings, all settings can be stored on a PC/notebook. To do
this, enter a directory and a file name (e.g. settings.esm). Via the sub menu Load Settings, the upload of existing
settings from PC/notebook to the ESM device ESM 1716 WEB / ESM 1716 WEB RS is possible. Press the button
Select and then select and open the corresponding .esm file (e.g. settings.esm) in the directory. The data will be
automatically transferred within approximately 10 seconds.
The sub item Save Overview allows the storage of the overview as an editable RTF file. To do this, press the button
Save, the file can be stored under the desired name as xxxx.rtf. The file format .rtf can be opened, edited and printed
with Microsoft Word, Open Office or WordPad.

8.6 Menu item ‘Password Settings’ (Settings Password Settings)
The menu Password Settings allows the change of access data to the device and thus increases access security
for the system.
In the delivery state, the username is assigned with ‘admin’ and the password with ‘password’.
By pressing the button Reset, located at the rear side of the device, a reset of the password can be done.

If required, assign a new username (consisting of letters, numbers or special characters in any order and length) in
the Username field. In the field New Password, enter the new password with at least 6 digits (consisting of letters,
numbers or special characters in any order). A green check mark confirms that the selected password meets the
password criteria. Then enter the new password again in the field Confirm Password. A green check mark confirms
that the entered password is identical to that previously entered.
By clicking on Change Password, the new password will be saved.
