About%the%Phone%
The'Polycom'320'is'a'basic'classroom'phone.'It'plugs'into'POE‐enabled'network' Ethernet'ports.'The'standard'IWCS'configuration'allows'for'two'available'lines,' enabling'conference'calling.'You'can'see'these'lines'on'the'right'side'of'the'phone' display.'For'each'line,'you'should'see'a'five‐digit'number'next'to'a'phone'icon.'The' five‐digit'number'indicates'the'extension'for'the'phone.'Directly'under'the'display' are'three'buttons.'These'buttons'are'referred'to'as'SoftKeys'and'perform'the' function'displayed'directly'above'them'in'the'screen.'The'function'will'change' depending'on'what'you'are'currently'doing'with'the'phone.'The'other'buttons'on' the'phone'are'described'later'in'this'document.'
How%to%Dial%an%Extension%
Every'phone'on'the'IWCS'phone'system'has'a'five‐digit'extension.'The'first'two' digits'represent'the'building'or'office,'while'the'last'three'digits'indicate'the'room' number'in'most'cases.'To'dial'an'extension,'simply'dial'it.'You'can'dial'without' lifting'the'handset'first,'in'which'case'you'will'need'to'press'the'Dial'SoftKey'once' you'have'entered'the'extension'(similar'to'pressing'Send'on'a'cell'phone).'A'
directory'of'all'the'extensions'is'available'on'the'Intranet.'Simply'log'in'and'select' the'Phone'Directory'link.'
How%to%Dial%an%Outside%Number%
Dialing'an'outside'number'is'similar'to'dialing'an'extension'except'that'you'need'to' dial'9'first'to'get'an'outside'line.'This'step'can'be'omitted'if'you'enter'your'number' before'you'lift'the'handset.'Note:'Depending'on'IWCS'and'individual'school'policy,' not'all'phones'have'the'ability'to'dial'outside'numbers,'and'most'teacher'phones'can' only'dial'local'numbers.'All'phones'can'dial'911'in'the'event'of'an'emergency' however.'
How%to%Check%Voicemail%
When'you'have'a'new'voicemail'message,'a'red'light'will'flash'on'top'of'the'phone.' To'check'your'voicemail,'dial'your'own'extension'from'your'phone.'You'will'be' prompted'for'a'password,'which,'if'you'haven’t'changed'it,'defaults'to'the'same' number'as'your'extension.'(Some'phones'may'default'to'1234,'depending'on'when' it'was'and'who'configured'it.)'Once'you'have'logged'in'to'voicemail,'you'will'be' guided'through'checking'new'messages,'listening'to'old'messages,'and'other' functions.'Mailbox'options'to'record'your'name,'your'away'message,'and'password' are'available'by'pressing'0.'In'many'cases,'the'phone'system'automatically'forwards' a'copy'of'your'voicemails'to'your'email,'and'you'can'listen'to'them'in'FirstClass.'If' this'feature'is'not'working'for'you,'and'you'would'like'it,'please'enter'a'Technology' Work'Order.''Note'that'some'phones,'depending'on'local'school'policy,'are'not' configured'to'have'voicemail'accounts.'

You'can'dial'in'to'the'Asterisk'phone'system'from'anywhere'to'retrieve'your' voicemail'messages.'Simply'dial'357‐8822.'You'will'be'prompted'for'your'extension' and'your'voicemail'password.'
How%to%Use%Speaker%Phone%
To'activate'the'speaker'phone,'press'the'Speaker'button'to'the'right'of'the'9'and'#' keys.'Speaker'phone'mode'can'be'activated'before'making'a'call,'while'in'a'call,'or'to' answer'an'incoming'call.'Use'the'–'and'+'buttons'below'the'number'keys'to'adjust' speaker'phone'volume.'The'red'Mute'button'with'the'microphone'symbol'can'be' used'to'mute'your'audio'so'that'you'can'hear'the'remote'party'but'they'can'not'hear' you.'
How%to%Place%a%Call%on%Hold%
Simply'press'the'Hold'button'to'place'a'call'on'hold.'The'remote'party'will'hear'hold' music'until'the'call'resumes.'If'you'switch'lines'by'pressing'a'line'button,'they'will' automatically'be'placed'on'hold'until'you'reselect'the'line'they'are'on.'
