How to Upgrade your 210 TA Version
The Purpose of this document is to help you perform a painless and trouble free upgrade
process. Please follow all steps carefully.
Process Description
Step1: Downloading the necessary files from the PictureTel Service WEB page.
Step2: Installing RADVision utility programs onto your PC.
Step3: Uploading the version files onto the 210 TA.
Step4: Resetting Configuration Parameters from your PC disk to the 210 TA.
The Upgrade Setup
To successfully upgrade a 210 TA unit, you should have the following:
The 210 TA unit(s) to be upgraded.
A PC running Windows 9X or NT4.
A IP connection on the 10BaseT Ethernet subnet where the 210 unit resides.
A Null-Modem (Crossed) DB9F to DB9M serial cable.
Internet access (for downloading the necessary files).
IMPORTANT NOTE:
The upgrading of firmware on a 210 TA unit running version 1.X firmware
must be performed from within the same subnet. Failure to ‘Burn’ the unit
from the same subnet may cause the upload process to fail and possibly
‘Lock-up’ the unit. During the upload process, the unit will reboot twice,
and during these reboots, the unit only retains its IP address. It does not
retain its router gateway address nor its subnet mask, and therefore cannot
be upgraded from other subnets. If you currently are running version 2.0
or greater, then you may burn from other subnets (if on a VLAN, going
through a NAT/MAT, etc., be sure you have a 1-to-1 mapping of the units IP
address and have TFTP and SNMP access
Downloading Necessary Files
Go to PictureTel Service Web Page
Download the following files:
viu323Ver2101.fls VIU firmware file
OnLAN_Tools Installer CD V2.1.exe OnLAN Software Tools
210_WEB.pdf 210TA Release Notes
Other Files (not necessary):
RVCFG1906.exe Configuration Software
bspboot21.fls bootstrap file
VIU-323 User Guide.pdf VIU-323 Manual
VIU QSG.PDF VIU Quick Start Guide
SWUploadUtility.pdf SW Upload Utility Manual
Install RADVision Utility programs on your PC
Open the RADVision OnLAN Tools Installer: OnLAN_Tools Installer CD V2.1.exe. This
installs the RADVision Software UpLoad Utility version 1.3.0.6 and RADVision OnLAN
Configure 323 software version 1.9.0.6 on to your PC.
Uploading the version files onto the 210 TA
1. Launch the Software Upload Utility.
2. Enter the 210's IP address.
3. If upgrading from 1.x, you can leave the User Name and Password blank,
otherwise use:
User Name: admin
Password: {configuration password you have set}
4. Select the file to upload (i.e. viu323Ver2101.fls).
5. Select Upload. (Refer to the SWUpLoadUtility.pdf for more details.)
NOTE: Wait about 2 minutes after the upload to let the VIU complete its restart
processes.
Monitor the progress of the download in the Terminal session, and wait until you get the
'=>'
prompt before proceeding.
** If the unit does not accept the new version file, first upload the bootstrap file
(bspboot21.fls).
Then continue and upload the firmware file. After burning the bootstrap file, the unit’s
password will be reset to the factory default of GWrv (case sensitive). You must use this
default password to upload any additional files and to configure the unit, until you set the
password to your own preference.
Resetting the 210 TA Configuration and Verifying the Operation
Launch the OnLAN 323 Configuration and reconfigure the unit. Place calls to
verify the operation of the gateway.
This concludes the upgrade process. Please do not hesitate to contact the
PictureTel Customer Support department if you should have any problems
and/or questions regarding this upgrade.
