IMPORTANT: The Poison Spyder Customs
BFH™Rear Bumper comes as unpainted, bare
steel. You will want to either powder coat or paint
the bumper prior to nal installation, however it is
recommended to completely install and remove
the bumper prior to painting or powder coating it.
This will allow you to check for tment or do any
clearancing or tting ahead of time, to reduce
the chance of damage to the nish during nal
installation. Poison Spyder Customs Inc. is not
responsible for costs for or damage to paint or
powder coat nish under any circumstances,
including paint or powder coat of incorrectly
shipped or defective parts.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Park the Jeep on a at, level surface and
set the parking brake.
2. Remove existing rear bumper. If it is
the stock bumper (TJ only), use a T27
Torx driver to remove the plastic bumper
extensions, then use an 18mm socket and
ratchet remove the M10 bolts from the frame
rail side brackets and along the bottom of the
bumper. Keep the OE M10 hardware as it
will be re-used.
3. Install the BFH™ bumper. The bolts in
the captured bolt plates will align with the
mounting holes in the Jeep’s frame/bumper
brackets. The Bolt plates are captured in
horizontal slots to allow for some adjustment
and manufacturing variances in the Jeep’s
frame. Install the provided 3/8-16 nylon
insert lock nuts and 3/8 at washers on to
the threaded studs of the Bolt Plates, where
they protrude through the Jeep’s mounting
bracket. Do not fully tighten them at this time.
NOTE: If the shackle tab recovery points are to
be used at any time, it is highly recommended to
install the TJ Rear Bumper Brace Kit, available
separately from Poison Spyder (p/n 14-61-710),
at this time. Instructions for its installation are
included with that kit.
4. (TJ only) Use two (2) of the 10mm OE
mounting bolts (18mm wrench size) to bolt
through the slots located along the underside
of the bumper into the OE welded-in-place
nuts inside the rear crossmember. Do not
fully tighten them at this time.
5. With all hardware installed, check that the
bumper is level and correctly aligned with the
Jeep, as the slots in the Bolt Plates will allow
for a small amount of adjustment. It may be
easiest to slightly tighten each of the bolts
then use a soft dead blow hammer or rubber

adjustments. Tighten all mounting bolts.
6. Remove the bumper for painting or powder
coat.
7. If painting yourself, careful preparation
will make a big difference in the quality
and longevity of your paint job, even
using “rattle can” aerosol paints. Begin by
thoroughly cleaning the bumper with solvent
or de-greaser, then make sure all residue is
removed. Even if you use cheap paint, try to
use a good quality primer. “Etching” primers
are best to use on bare, unpainted metal.
Allow it to properly dry before painting, and
between paint coats.
8. Re-install the nished bumper by
repeating the installation procedures, taking
care not to damage the paint or powder coat
nishduringinstallation.
9. Torque the 3/8-16 Gr8 Hex Head Cap
Screws to 45 ft.-lbs. Torque the M10 OE
fasteners to 40.5 ft.-lbs.
Congratulations, you have completed installation
of your BFH™ II Rear Bumper!
