PocketDISH™ - Portable Media Player/Recorders
What is the send time from a USB
2.0-capable DISH Network receiver to my PocketDISH?
An hour of content will send in about 5 minutes.
Can I record content from a DISH Network receiver that doesn’t have a compatible USB connection?
Yes, using the composite input connections on the AV500E and AV700E. Record time is real time (e.g. a half-hour show will take a half-hour to record).
Can I send DISH Network HDTV content to my PocketDISH?
No, only standard definition content can be sent.
Can I send DISH On Demand content to my PocketDISH?
No.
In what format is video content stored?
Content sent from the USB 2.0 port of a DISH Network DVR is MPEG-2. Content recorded from the A/V inputs is encoded by the PocketDISH and stored as MPEG-4. Other video content from a PC is stored in its native format (e.g. MPEG-4 AVI).
What happens when my PocketDISH hard drive is full?
If you try to send content from your DISH Network receiver and there is not enough space available on the PocketDISH, you’ll receive a pop-up message. You’ll have to delete programs before you can send any more.
Can I take content from one DISH Network DVR, put in on my PocketDISH, then transfer that content to my friend’s DISH Network DVR?
No, the content can only be sent from a DISH Network DVR to the PocketDISH. The content cannot be transferred back to your DVR or to another DISH Network DVR.
Can I take content from my DISH Network DVR, put in on my PocketDISH, then transfer it to and play it back on a computer?
You can transfer content from a PocketDISH to store on your computer, but you may not play it back on your computer, or anywhere but the originating PocketDISH.
You can transfer the content from your computer back to your PocketDISH for viewing and playback.
I have parental control locks on my DVR recorded content. Will I have to enter my password to send a locked program to my PocketDISH?
Yes, you’ll need to enter your password before you can send content.
On the PocketDISH you will need to set up locks and a password – the locks from your DVR content do not transfer over.
Does PocketDISH support Closed Captioning? No.
Can I use my dual-tuner receiver in either Single Mode or Dual Mode to send content to my PocketDISH?
Yes, but only from TV1 - the Multimedia menu option is grayedout in Dual Mode on TV2.
Can I send photos stored on my receiver’s hard drive to my PocketDISH?
No.
DISH Network receivers get their software upgraded via satellite. Can the PocketDISH also be upgraded?
Yes. When upgrades are available PocketDISH can be updated when connected to the DISH Network receiver, or from the Archos website, www.archos.com
When I connect my PocketDISH to my television to watch my DISH Network recordings, will the quality be similar to watching it from my DVR?
Yes.
Why are there two USB ports?
The USB Mini Type B port is used to connect the PocketDISH to a DISH Network receiver or a PC; the USB Mini Type A port and the supplied adapter cable are used to connect the PocketDISH to a USB mass storage device, such as a USB camera, card reader or flash drive.
