How To Use This Guide
This User Guide provide s instructions and illustrations
on how to install and ope rate your scanner. We re commend that
you read through the entire Hardware Install ation, Chapter I,
before you begin installing the scanner.
Chapter I descri bes how to install the scanner to your
computer. Note: The scanne r interface is through an
Enhanced Paralle l Por t. If your computer does not support
EPP, you may nee d to purchase an additional inter face card
that does support EPP technology to maximize the F latbed
Scanner performance.
Chapter II desc ribes how to i nstall the scanner software.
We suggest that you do not install the software be fore installi ng the
hardware.
After you complete instal ling the scanner software,
Chapter III describes how to use the TWAIN interface. TWAIN is
a scanning standard and one of the most widely used technologies
in the scanner industry today. Please carefull y read through
Chapter III to learn about how to operate the scanner TWAIN
interface. After learning about how to operate the TWAIN
interface, Chapter IV describe s how to test, maintain and clean
your scanner.
Appendic es A & B have tec hnical support informati on that can

Chapter I
Before installing your scanner, verify that you have all of the
proper components. A list of the package contents is provided on
page ix at the beginning of this guide.
Hardware Requirements
Your scanner uses an interface called an nhanced Parallel
Port (EPP)”. *
* The scanner is designed to the latest parallel port specifications,
however, because there is no single set of parallel port standard
in the computer field, there are some parallel port or multi I/O
adapters, parallel port peripherals, and software dongles that are
not fully compatible with the scanner EPP interface and may
cause unpredictable results when used on the same parallel port
connection as the scanner EPP interface. If you are
experiencing problems with your scanner EPP interface, or if
you want to connect other parallel port devices, it would be best
to add another parallel port to your computer.

Note: OpticPro should function wi th a Standard Pr inter Port
(SPP) that supports bi-directional communication. However, if
you have an SPP port that is not bi-directional, it is highly likely
that the scanne r will not be found. Also, bi-directional SPP
technology is much slower than EPP.

sec tion. The fol lowing section describes how to connect the
scanner to your computer and printer. Please carefully follow
along to ensure proper installation.
