1. Checklist
Your FT-701A/FT-702A carton should contain the following items:

ð This user’s guide
If any item is missing or damaged, please consult the dealer from whom you
purchased your FT-701A/FT-702A.
2. Overview
FT-701A/702A is an Ethernet/IEEE802.3u 100Base-TX to 100Base-FX Fast
Ethernet Converter. This converter is available in two models:
ð FT-701A : on board ST fiber connector
ð FT-702A : on board SC fiber connector
Six LEDs (FX: Act, Link, TX: Act, Link, PWR, FDX) are equipped on the side
panel.
3. Installing the FT-701A / FT-702A
Please follow these steps to install FT-701A/FT-702A:
• Turn off the power of the device/station in a network to which the FT-
701A/702A will be attached
• Ensure that there is no activity in the network
• Attach fiber cable from the FT-701A/702A to the fiber network. TX, RX must
be paired at both ends
• Attach a Cat. 5 UTP cable from the 100Base-TX network to the RJ-45 port on
the FT-701A/702A.
• Set the Duplex Mode according to the attached device. FDX for both end
full-duplex. In default, HDX.
• Connect the 5VDC power adapter to the FT-701A/702A and verify that the
Power LED lights up.
• Turn on the power of the device/station, the TX Link and FX Link LEDs
should light when all cables are attached

5. Cable Connection Guide
Fast Ethernet 100Base-X networks allows 512bit time delay between any two node
stations in a collision domain.
The followings are UTP / Fiber-Optic Cable and devices bit-time delay (round
trip):
DTE to DTE : 100BT
Class II Repeater Hub: 92BT
Cat 5. TP wire : 1.112 BT/meter
Fiber-Optic : 1.0BT/ meter
TX to FX Converter : 56BT
The overall bit time of TP/Fiber wires and devices must be within 512bit time in a
segment.
To extend the distance, you may use switching hub to break up a collision domain.
The limitations are as below:
Half-Duplex: Node to Node/Switching: 412 meter
Full-Duplex: Node to Node/Switching : 2Km
