introduction
VOCALPORT is a high-quality portable loudspeaker with a built-in wireless receiver for a wide range of applications. Because it
requires no power cords or mic cables, you can quickly and easily set up your mobile or fixed sound system practically anywhere.

operating notes
For optimum coverage and intelligibility, place the speaker as high as possible using a stand. It should be clearly visible from each seat or standing area, and not obstructed by people or objects.
To avoid feedback (whistling/ howling), have the presenter stand behind the speaker, and never point the microphone element directly at the speaker. If feedback occurs anyway, turn down the volume until it stops.

This device has been manufactured and tested in accordance with stringent safety guidelines for electronic equipment. In order to maintain safety and avoid risks of damage or injury, take usual precautions and follow these safety instructions:
• Connect the equipment only to a standard three-pin outlet with protective ground. Never open the safety ground connection.
• This device contains no user serviceable parts. To reduce the risk of fire or electric
shock, do not open the device and refer servicing to qualified personnel.
• Dispose of used batteries in accordance with local waste disposal rules. Never throw batteries into a fire — they may explode.
• If the equipment is:
• visibly damaged;
• contains loose parts;
• does not operate correctly;
• stored under adverse conditions
(e.g., outdoors or in a damp room) for extended periods of time; or
• exposed to high transportation stress (e.g., due to inadequate packing),
operating the equipment may be unsafe. Switch power to the equipment off and mark the equipment. Make sure the equipment cannot be connected to power or switched on unintentionally by other persons.

features and controls
recharge battery/power input
DC input jack for charging the builtin battery or operating the VOCALPORT on AC power using the supplied AC adapter.
charging LED
Light remains constant while battery is being charged; flashes when battery is fully charged.
power switch
Controls power for VOCALPORT audio and amplifier — does not affect charging circuit.
status LED
Lights green when unit is on and battery adequately charged; lights red when battery is low.
music line input
Connect a CD player, cassette recorder, or other line level source here with a stereo RCA cable (not supplied). The stereo input signal is internally summed to mono. Input sensitivity is 100mV into 10 kfor nominal level.
music volume (see picture above)
mix/rec out
Connect a recording device to your unit here with a stereo RCA cable (not supplied). The jacks are internally paralleled and carry the output signal of the built-in mi xer with the volume and EQ settings you made. The output voltage at nominal level is 0.5 V into 200 source impedance.
wired mic input
Balanced female XLR connector accepts a wired microphone
(optional) via a standard microphone cable with a male XLR connector. Provides 12 V phantom power for dynamic, electret, or condenser microphones. Input sensitivity for nominal level is 2 mV into 1 kΩ. Pin 1 is ground, pin 2 “hot” (inphase), pin 3 return.
wired mic volume
wireless receiver squelch control
Sets the level at which a weak RF signal is muted to prevent white noise. Set at “MIN” as a starting point and adjust as needed.
wireless receiver channel selector
Select channels 1-4 to match your transmitter (channels 5-F are inactive). Set to “RF OFF” when not in use. (see picture in previous column)
wireless mic volume
bass equalizer
Cuts or boosts low frequencies from the two microphone inputs and the line input.
treble equalizer
Cuts or boosts high frequencies from the two microphone inputs and the line input.

• Set volume controls 6 and 9 to zero before connecting auxiliary equipment.
• Connect an audio source or wired mic as described under section 4.
•V
OCALPORT will provide a mixed signal
for all inputs.
• To record your performance or presentation, connect a tape recorder to the mix/rec out jacks
power and recharging
• The VOCALPORT is intended primarily for battery operation.
• You may charge the batter y at any time irrespective of its residual capacity — it will not develop a “memory.”
• Do not store your V
OCALP
ORT for ex-
tended periods of time in entirely or partially discharged condition. Always recharge the battery immediately after use.
• If you are using VOCALPORT for the first time or if it has not been connected to AC power for more than a year, charge the battery for 14 hours.
To charge the battery: first, connect the supplied AC adapter to the recharge battery jack (see 1), then plug the adapter into a wall outlet. Do not use switched outlets!
The voltage of the supplied AC adapter
will match the voltage of standard outlets in the U.S. and Canada. Using the AC
adapter with a different AC voltage may cause irreparable damage to the unit.
• Charging will start automatically, indicated by the steadily lit charging LED (see 2).
• When the charging LED flashes, the battery is fully charged and the VOCALPORT is ready for use.
• Unplug the AC adapter from the wall outlet and the recharge battery jack (see 1).
• Turn on the V
OCALPORT
(see 3).The status LED (see 4) should light green. If it lights red the battery is low (depending on the load, battery operating time is 6 to 12 hours). The electronic circuitry and the loud-speaker will switch off automatically.
• During AC operation, the charging circuit of the VOCALPOR T will automatically switch to trickle charge
mode. This means that the battery will be automatically recharged during operation. This also means you can continue operating the V
OCALP
ORT on
AC powe r even if the battery is completely drained.
• In the event of a power failure, the V
OCALPORT will automatically switch to
battery operation with no interruption. Therefore you can not switch the VOCALPORT
on and off by means of an
external power switch or safety cut-out.
cleaning and storage
• Ambient operation temperature should range from -5º to +40º C/23º to 104ºF.
• Storage or shipping temperatures should range from -15º to +40ºC/5º to 104ºF. Temperatures below -15ºC/5ºF will damage the battery.
• If condensation forms on the equipment during shipping or storage, allow it to acclimate for 2 hours before powering up.
• Use the loudspeaker in a dry environment with air of normal relative humidity and dust concentration. Never expose the unit to aggressive chemical liquids or vapors.
• You may position the unit at any angle, but always provide at least 2 inches of free air space behind the rear panel for adequate ventilation.
• Clean the loudspeaker enclosure with a moistened cloth, making sure no liquid enters the case.
