The FreeCom 3000 aviation headset is supplied with generic ear shells for immediate use. The purchase of this headset also entitles you to one (either left or right) custom ear mold (excluding the cost of having this ear impression made). The use of this custom mold will bring even greater wearing comfort.
The following information in this User Guide is based on the use of FreeCom 3000 with its custom ear mold. To t the supplied generic ear shell please refer to the “User Guide for Assembly” document supplied with your headset.
FreeCom 3000 is ultra-lightweight and allows reliable and clear communication, even in noisy environments.
The FreeCom 3000 system consists of an ear mold (either left or right ear). This ear mold is a hollow shell manufactured from clinical nylon and oers an unsurpassed level of comfort. This mold is also long lasting, due to its outstanding resistance to chemical, mechanical and thermal eects.
An earJack
TM
adapter, which contains the ear speaker and the boom microphone, simply clicks into the ear mold. A cable then runs to a Quick Disconnect (QD) connector, which is in turn plugged into a FreeCom Adapter (sold separately), allowing you to connect your FreeCom 3000 to your aircraft’s audio panel.
1 Product Overview
u Put on, adjust, clean and maintain your headset in accordance with these instructions. u The ear mold is reusable. It should be inspected regularly for serviceability. u The material and design of the ear mold is long-lasting. Nevertheless, the shape of your ear
canal may change over time (e.g. if your body weight changes significantly).
u FreeCom 3000 is equipped with a built-in ear speaker for reproducing sound. Verify that
this feature is operating correctly before use and ensure that the sound emitted does not exceed the values known to constitute a risk to hearing.
u Certain chemical substances may be harmful to this product. Contact the manufacturer
for more information.
u Keep your clean FreeCom 3000 in the pouch provided before and after use, as well as during
transport. Store in a dry place at temperatures not below -20°C or above +60°C.
Your headset should not be used when there is a risk that the connecting cords could become caught up during use.
Never use the device without the earJack™ adapters correctly inserted into the custom-made ear molds. Verify that it is mounted according to these instructions before use.
2 Important User Information
12 13
3.1 Wearing the system
u The ear mold to your FreeeCom 3000 headset is marked black with an acronym of your name,
and is either for your right or your left ear (depending on which mold you had made). u Insert the ear mold into your outer ear with the opening pointing into your ear canal 1 . u Twist the ear mold slightly to insert it fully into your ear 2 . Ensure that it holds firmly in
your outer ear and forms a good seal 3 . u Adjust the boom microphone to sit within 1 cm of your mouth, close to your upper lip. Ensure
that the microphone sound inlet, marked with a white dot points towards your mouth 9 . u Set the output volume on the aircraft audio panel to the minimum level before connecting
the FreeCom 3000.
3.2 Removing the system
u Hold the ear mold by the earJack
TM
and withdraw it carefully from your ear, using a slow
forward movement to avoid a rapid pressure drop.
3.3 Maintaining the system
u Dismount the earJack™ adapter from the ear mold by pressing the snap lock springs
together 4 and withdrawing the adapter, starting from the top 5 . u Clean and disinfect the ear mold with soap and water. Never use water or other liquid to clean
the earJack™ adapters or the boom microphone. Let your ear mold dry fully before use.
3 Instructions For Use
3 Instructions For Use
u Reconnect the earJack™ adapters into the ear mold by first hooking the lower hinge of the
earJack™ adapter into the mold 6 , then pushing the upper part firmly in until it clicks 7 . By correctly mounting the adapter, you will ensure a tight seal and proper operation of the headset's hearing protection.
The FreeCom 3000 is equipped with a boom microphone to pick up the user’s voice for communication. The microphone has close-talk, directional characteristics to provide maximum suppression of ambient noise. The earJack™ adapter that features the boom microphone can be attached to either your left or right ear mold. When using FreeCom 3000 products in outdoor environments, foam windscreens signicantly reduce the wind noise generated by turbulence around the microphone. A foam windscreen sleeve can be pulled over the microphone. Check that the front microphone inlet (with the white dot on the microphone) still points toward the mouth after mounting the sleeve.
4.1 Use / Mounting / Removing of windscreen
u To keep the windscreen in position, the boom microphone is equipped with a Velcro part 8 . u To mount the windscreen to, or remove it from, the boom microphone, lift the windscreen
over the Velcro part and pull it on or remove it from the microphone 8 .
