Discover all SENSEO® coffee blends at www.senseo.com. To ensure a smooth and full coffee taste, you should keep the following things in mind:

Flush before first use

Flush the machine before first use. After the flushing cycle (which only takes approx. 2 minutes), the machine is ready for brewing coffee.

When to descale

Descale the SENSEO® coffee machine when the CALC light lights up, but at least once every 3 months. There is no difference between soft-water and hard-water areas in this respect. Descaling takes about 1 hour. Do not interrupt the descaling process.

Fresh coffee pods

Use the specially developed SENSEO® coffee pods with your SENSEO coffee machine for a full, round taste. SENSEO® coffee pods stay fresh longer when you store them in a storage container.

Clean cold water

Use clean cold water every day. If you have not used the coffee machine for one day, you have to flush it with clean cold water before you use it again.

A clean machine

Clean and descale the Philips SENSEO® coffee machine regularly. Remove used coffee pods after brewing. If a used pod has been left in the coffee machine and you have not used the machine for some time, flush the machine before you use it again. For more information on why it is important to descale, how to descale or which descaler to use, visit our website at www.philips.com/descale-senseo.

Cleaning the milk spout and the milk container

For a reliable performance of the milk spout and consistently good frothing results, it is important to clean the milk spout, the milk tube and the milk container regularly and thoroughly. The milk spout can be disassembled completely, which allows you to remove all milk residues from it.
Note: If you do not plan to froth milk again straight away, rinse the milk spout and milk tube within 30 minutes after use. After the last use of the day, clean the milk spout and milk tube thoroughly.

Rinsing after every use

1 Fill the milk container with clean water.
2 Place the lid on the milk container. Insert the connector of the milk tube
into the milk spout (1). Insert the other end of the milk tube into the milk container through the opening in the lid (2).
3 Place an empty cup under the spout.
4 Press the milk only button. 5 The machine rinses all milk residues from the milk spout and milk tube
with clean hot water.
English

Cleaning after last use of the day

Clean the milk tube, milk spout and milk container in the dishwasher or in hot water with some washing-up liquid.
Note: Cleaning in the dishwasher is recommended.
1 Pull the milk tube out of the milk spout.
2 To remove the milk spout from the machine, pull it towards you. 3 Remove the top part of the milk spout from the bottom part by pulling it
firmly.
4 Take out the frothing system.
21
5 Open the spring to separate the parts.
22
English
6 Remove the inside part of the frothing system by pulling it downwards.
7 Remove the small lid by pulling it upwards.
8 Clean the three disassembled parts of the milk spout in the dishwasher
or with hot water and some washing-up liquid.

Reassembling the milk spout

1 Place the small lid back on the frothing system.
2 Place the inside part back into the frothing system.
English
3 Close the spring to lock the two parts together.
4 Place the frothing system in the bottom part of the milk spout.
5 Place the top part of the milk spout back onto the bottom part.
23

Cleaning the machine and the coffee spout

1 Always unplug the machine before you clean it. 2 Clean the outside of the machine with a moist cloth. 3 Remove the coffee spout.
24
English
4 Remove the top part of the coffee spout from the bottom part by pulling
it firmly.
5 Clean the coffee spout, the pod holders, the drip tray, the cup tray and
the water reservoir in hot water, if necessary with some washing-up liquid, or in the dishwasher.
6 To prevent clogging, clean the pod holders regularly with hot water, some
washing-up liquid and a washing-up brush. If you have used the 2-cup pod holder to brew cappuccino or hot chocolate, make sure to clean it thoroughly immediately after use to remove any milk residues.
Note: To clean a pod holder even more effectively, place it in the machine during descaling.
7 Clean the water distribution disc with a moist cloth. Be careful when you
do this. Make sure that the rubber sealing ring does not get stuck under the edge of the water distribution disc. If it does, the coffee machine starts to leak.

Descaling

When to descale

Why to descale

Descale the SENSEO® coffee machine when the CALC light lights up, but at least once every 3 months. There is no difference between soft-water and hard-water areas in this respect. Descaling takes about 1 hour. Do not interrupt the descaling process.
Scale builds up inside the machine during use. It is essential to descale the SENSEO® coffee machine at least every 3 months. Your reasons to descale:
-
It prolongs the life of your SENSEO® coffee machine
-
It ensures maximum cup volume
-
It ensures maximum coffee temperature
-
The machine produces less sound during brewing
-
It prevents malfunctioning
If the descaling procedure is not performed correctly, scale residue remains
behind in the machine. This causes scale to build up more quickly and may cause permanent and irreparable damage to the machine.

Use the correct descaler

Only citric acid-based descalers are suitable for descaling the SENSEO machine. This type of descaler descales the machine without damaging it. For the correct amount, see under ‘Descaling procedure’ below. Each descaling mixture can be used only once. Use a new descaling mixture each time. We advise you to use the special SENSEO® Descaler. Read the instruction leaflet in the package. For more information on why it is important to descale, how to descale or which descaler to use, visit our website at www.philips.com/descale-senseo.

Descaling procedure

The CALC button lights up to indicate you have to descale your machine. The descaling procedure consists of a descaling cycle and 3 flushing cycles with fresh water to ensure all descaler residue is removed from the machine. Do not interrupt the descaling cycle and do not switch off the machine before you have performed the flushing cycles. The whole procedure takes approximately 60 minutes.
Note: Place the milk spout in the machine to ensure proper descaling.
1 Place the 1-cup pod holder with a used coffee pod or the thin descaling
filter in the coffee machine. The used coffee and the thin descaling filter pod serve as a filter and prevents the sieve in the pod holder from getting clogged with scale.
2 Close the lid and make sure it is properly locked.

after approximately 45 minutes, the on/off button flashes quickly and the CALC button flashes slowly.
10 Empty the bowl and place it back under the spout.
