Baby thermometer set

The Philips baby thermometer set allows you to accurately and conveniently measure your baby’s temperature. The baby thermometer set is designed for your baby’s safety, comfort, well-being and, therefore, your own peace of mind. It is part of a complete range of Philips Baby Care products. Please read this guide carefully before using the thermometer kit, and keep it for future reference.

The storage box contains three items:

- A soother thermometer to reliably measure baby’s temperature. It is very convenient to use both for you and your baby.

- An ordinary soother to let your baby get used to the shape. You can use this soother as a regular soother.

- A digital flexible-tip thermometer that measures baby’s body temperature rectally if you want added reassurance.

Make sure you follow the safety guidelines when using these items so that you don’t expose your child to any risk.

The temperature of a child is normally between 36.5 and 37.5°C. Remember

though that a child’s temperature can vary depending on age, activity, time of day, etc. Please also remember that some illnesses do not have high temperature as a symptom. Temperature measurement should not act as a substitution for consulting your physician. When reporting your child’s temperature to a professional state the measurement method.

Soother thermometer

The most convenient way to measure your baby’s temperature is to use the soother thermometer. This is also the most comfortable method for baby. Don’t use for 30 minutes after the baby has had hot or cold drinks as this causes an inaccurate measurement.

• Push the on/off button (A-1) to switch on the thermometer. (The display (A-2) shows an ‘L’ and a flashing ‘°C’.)

• Place the soother in the baby’s mouth and leave it there until the thermometer beeps four times.

• The display now shows the measured temperature and the °C sign lights continuously.

• Remove the soother from the baby’s mouth.

• Push the on/off button to switch off the thermometer. (Doing this extends battery power. The thermometer switches off automatically after about 10 minutes.)

Cleaning the sootherCleaning the soother Nipple, shield and cover can be sterilised* or boiled. Never sterilise nor boil the measurement unit. Before cleaning always remove the measurement unit from the nipple and shield as follows (see figure B):

• Turn the measurement unit 90° anticlockwise with respect to the shield.

• Pull the measurement unit straight out of the nipple and shield. (Be careful not to bend the tip of the measurement probe.)

After boiling the nipple, shield and cover, drain and push out any remaining water and allow to dry.

To clean the measurement unit wipe it with a damp cloth.

Reassemble the soother as follows (see figure C):

• Align the blocks of the measurement unit with the matching slots in the back of the shield.

• Insert the measurement unit into the shield ensuring that the tip of the probe goes into the pocket inside the nipple.

• Turn the measurement unit 90° clockwise to lock into position.

* Sterilising means destroying harmful bacteria at a temperature of 95°C for

more than 3 minutes. It does NOT mean sterilisation according to clinical standards. Philips Baby Bottle Steriliser is suitable for sterilising the nipple, shield and cover.

Digital flexible-tip thermometer

The soother thermometer is as accurate as the digital flexible-tip thermometer and is more convenient to use. However, because rectal measurement is inherently more accurate than oral measurement, the digital flexible-tip thermometer gives you an opportunity to reassure yourself.

Remove the digital flexible-tip thermometer from its storage cover. If available, use special plastic hygiene covers to cover the tip of the thermometer (these are available from most pharmacies).

For a rectal measurement of a baby’s temperature proceed as follows:

• Lubricate the tip of the thermometer (or hygiene cover) with a water-soluble jelly. Do not use a petroleum jelly.

• Push the on/off button (A-1) to switch on the thermometer. (The display (A-2) shows an ‘L’ and a flashing ‘°C’.)

• Lie the baby on its stomach or its side.

• With one hand separate the baby’s buttocks. With the other hand gently slide the tip of the thermometer no more than 12mm (1/2 inch) into the rectum. If you detect any resistance stop immediately.

• Hold the baby firmly so that it cannot turn while the thermometer is inserted.

• Keep the thermometer in place until it beeps four times.

• Remove the thermometer and read the display.

• Push the on/off button to switch off the thermometer. (Doing this extends battery power. The thermometer switches off automatically after about 10 minutes.)

La boîte de rangement contient trois articles:

- Un thermomètre tétine pour mesurer très précisément la température de bébé. Il

est très convivial, tant pour vous que pour bébé.

Tuttikuumemittari on yhtä tarkka kuin joustavakärkinen digitaalinen kuumemittari ja mukavampi käyttää. Koska ruumiinlämpö saadaan kuitenkin aina mitattua peräaukosta tarkemmin kuin suusta, joustavakärkinen digitaalinen kuumemittari tarjoaa mahdollisuuden varmistua mittaustuloksesta.

Ota joustavakärkinen digitaalinen kuumemittari suojakotelosta. Jos saatavilla on kuumemittarin mittapään muovisuojuksia, käytä niitä. (Suojuksia saa useimmista apteekeista.)

Mittaa lapsen ruumiinlämpö peräaukosta seuraavasti:

• Voitele kuumemittarin (tai muovisuojuksen) kärki vesiliukoisella liukastusvoiteella. Älä käytä vaseliinia.

• Kytke kuumemittariin virta painamalla virtapainiketta (A-1). (Näytössä (A-2) näkyy kirjain L ja vilkkuva merkki °C.)

• Aseta lapsi vatsalleen tai kyljelleen.

• Levitä toisella kädellä lapsen pakaroita. Työnnä toisella kädellä kuumemittarin kärki varovasti peräaukkoon enintään 12 millimetrin syvyydelle. Jos tunnet pientäkään vastusta, lopeta työntäminen heti.

• Pidä lapsesta lujasti kiinni, jottei tämä pääse kääntymään työntäessäsi kuumemittaria paikalleen.

• Pidä kuumemittari paikallaan, kunnes se piippaa neljä kertaa.

• Ota mittari pois ja tarkasta lukema näytöstä.

• Katkaise virta painamalla kuumemittarin virtapainiketta. (Tämä säästää paristoja. Kuumemittarin virta katkeaa automaattisesti noin 10 minuutin kuluttua.)

• Nettoyez les tétines et les thermomètres avant toute première utilisation.

• Pour éviter toute blessure, n’utilisez jamais séparément l’élément de mesure du thermomètre à tétine.

• Rangez les thermomètres hors de portée des enfants: ce ne sont pas des jouets.

• Il faut toujours qu’un adulte surveille l’utilisation des thermomètres.

• N’utilisez pas le thermomètre si le le sigle s’affiche. Ce sigle indique que la pile est faible, ce qui donnerait une mauvaise mesure.

La manière la plus facile de mesurer la température de bébé, c’est d’utiliser le thermomètre à tétine. C’est aussi la méthode la plus confortable pour bébé. Attendez 30 minutes si bébé a pris une boisson chaude ou froide, ce qui fausserait la mesure.

• Poussez sur le bouton on/off (A-1) pour allumer le thermomètre. (Le display (A-2) affiche un «L» et un ‘°C’ clignotant.)

• Placez la tétine dans la bouche de bébé et laissez-la jusqu’à ce que le thermomètre émettre quatre «beep».

• Le display affiche à présent la température mesurée et le sigle °C reste allumé.

• Enlevez la tétine de la bouche de bébé.

• Poussez sur le bouton on/off (A-1) pour couper le thermomètre. (Ce faisant, vous rallongez la longévité de la batterie. Le thermomètre se coupe automatiquement après environ 10 minutes.)

• Käännä mittausyksikköä kanteen nähden 90° vastapäivään.

Keitettyäsi tutin kärjen, kannan ja kotelon valuta ja ravista jäljellä oleva vesi pois ja anna osien kuivua.

Puhdista mittausyksikkö pyyhkimällä se kostealla liinalla.

Kokoa tutti seuraavasti (katso kuvaa C):

• Aseta mittausyksikössä olevat ulokkeet kannan takana olevien kolojen kohdalle.

• Työnnä mittausyksikkö kantaan varmistaen, että mittapää painuu tutin kärjen sisällä

olevaan taskuun.

• Käännä mittausyksikköä 90° myötäpäivään, niin että se kiinnittyy oikeaan asentoon.

* Steriloinnilla tarkoitetaan tässä haitallisten bakteerien tuhoamista pitämällä esinettä vähintään 3 minuutin ajan 95 °C:n lämpötilassa. Sillä EI tarkoiteta kliinisten standardien mukaista sterilointia. Philipsin tuttipullojen sterilointilaite sopii tutin kärjen, kannan ja kotelon sterilointiin.

Vauvan lämmön mittaaminen käy helpoimmin tuttikuumemittarilla. Tämä on myös lapselle mukavin tapa. Älä käytä kuumemittaria 30 minuutin kuluessa siitä, kun lapsi on saanut kuumaa tai kylmää juotavaa, koska tällöin mittaustulos on epätarkka.

• Kytke kuumemittariin virta virtapainikkeella (A-1). (Näytössä (A-2) näkyy kirjain L ja vilkkuva merkki °C.)

• Pane tutti lapsen suuhun ja odota, kunnes kuumemittari piippaa neljä kertaa.

• Näytössä näkyy mitattu ruumiinlämpö. °C-merkki palaa vilkkumatta.

• Tournez l’unité de mesure de 90° en sens contraire des aiguilles d’une montre par rapport à la protection.

• Retirez l’unité de mesure bien droite de la tétine et de la protection. (Veillez à ne pas plier l’extrémité de la sonde de mesure.)

Après avoir fait bouillir la tétine, la protection et le couvercle, égouttez et supprimez tout résidu d’eau et laissez sécher.

Pour nettoyer l’unité de mesure, essuyez-la à l’aide d’un tissu humide.

Remontez la tétine comme suit (voir figure C):

• Alignez les blocs de l’unité de mesure sur les fentes correspondantes à l’arrière de la protection.

• Insérez l’unité de mesure dans la protection en veillant à ce que l’extrémité de la sonde s’engage dans la poche ménagée dans la tétine.

• Tournez l’unité de mesure de 90° dans le sens des aiguilles d’une montre pour la verrouiller en position.

Thermomètre digital à embout flexible

Le thermomètre à tétine est aussi fiable que le thermomètre digital à embout flexible et plus facile à utiliser. Toutefois, comme une mesure rectale est plus sûre qu’une mesure orale, le thermomètre digital à embout flexible vous permet de vous rassurer.

Enlevez le thermomètre digital à embout flexible de son emballage de rangement. Si disponible, utilisez les protections hygiéniques spéciales en plastique pour protéger l’extrémité du thermomètre (vous pouvez les acquérir dans la plupart des pharmacies).

Pour prendre la température rectale de bébé, procédez comme suit:

• Lubrifiez l’extrémité du thermomètre (ou la protection hygiénique) à l’aide d’un gel soluble dans l’eau. N’utilisez pas de vaseline.

• Poussez sur le bouton on/off (A-1) pour allumer le thermomètre. (Le display (A-2) affiche un «L» et un ‘°C’ clignotant.)

• Couchez bébé sur l’estomac ou sur le flanc.

• D’une main, séparez les fesses de bébé. De l’autre, introduisez doucement l’extrémité du thermomètre de maximum 12 mm dans le rectum. Arrêtez immédiatement si vous sentez une résistance.

• Tenez fermement bébé pour qu’il ne puisse pas se retourner quand le thermomètre est inséré.

• Gardez le thermomètre en place jusqu’à ce qu’il émette quatre «beep».

• Enlevez le thermomètre et lisez l’affichage.

• Poussez sur le bouton on/off (A-1) pour couper le thermomètre. (Ce faisant, vous rallongez la longévité de la batterie. Le thermomètre se coupe automatiquement après environ 10 minutes.)
