SOFTWARE END USER LICENSE AGREEMENT

THIS SOFTWARE END USER LICENSE AGREEMENT (THIS “AGREEMENT”) IS A LEGAL AND BINDING AGREEMENT BETWEEN YOU (EITHER AN INDIVIDUAL OR ENTITY) AND PHILIPS ELECTRONICS NORTH AMERICA CORPORATION, with OFFICES AT 1251 Avenue of the Americas, New York, New York 10020, USA ("PHILIPS"), REGARDING THE USE OF THE PHILIPS SOFTWARE (THE “SOFTWARE”) PROVIDED WITH THE PHILIPS ULTIMATE EDGE SOUND CARD (THE “PRODUCT”), WHICH INCLUDES USER DOCUMENTATION PROVIDED IN ELECTRONIC FORM. BY INSTALLING OR USING THE SOFTWARE, YOU AGREE TO ALL OF THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THIS AGREEMENT. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO THESE TERMS AND CONDITIONS, DO NOT INSTALL OR USE THE SOFTWARE, AND RETURN THE PRODUCT, THE SOFTWARE, ALL MANUALS, DOCUMENTATION, AND PROOF OF PAYMENT TO PHILIPS WITHIN THIRTY (30) DAYS OF PURCHASE FOR A FULL REFUND.

Grant of License. This Agreement grants you a non-exclusive, nontransferable, non-sublicensable license to install and use one (1) copy of the specified version of the Software in object code format, in operating environment(s) authorized by Philips for internal purposes only, on only one computer. This license does not permit you to use more than one instance of any copy of the Software. The Software is "in use" on a computer when it is loaded into the temporary memory (i.e. RAM) or installed into the permanent memory (e.g., hard disk, CD-ROM, or other storage device) of that computer.

Ownership. The license granted hereunder does not constitute a transfer or sale of Philips’ or its licensor’s ownership rights in or to the Software. This Agreement grants you the right to use the Software, but you do not acquire any rights, express or implied, in the Software other than those specified in this Agreement. Philips and its licensors retain all right, title, and interest in and to the Software, including all patents, copyrights, trade secrets, and other intellectual property rights incorporated therein. The Software is protected by copyright laws, international treaty provisions, and other intellectual property laws. Therefore, you may not use, copy, or distribute the Software without prior written authorization of Philips, except that you may make one (1) copy of the Software for your back-up purposes only. You may not copy the printed materials accompanying the Software, nor print copies of any user documentation provided in electronic form, except that you may make one (1) copy of such printed materials for your back-up purposes only.

License Restrictions. Except as provided otherwise herein, you shall not rent, lease, sublicense, sell, assign, loan, or otherwise transfer the Software or use the Software for commercial timesharing, or service bureau purposes. You shall not, and you shall not permit any third party, to reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Software, except to the extent that the foregoing restriction is expressly prohibited by applicable law. You may not remove or destroy any product identification, copyright notices, or other proprietary markings or restrictions from the Software. All titles, trademarks, and copyright and restricted rights notices shall be reproduced on all copies of the Software. You may not modify, copy, or adapt the Software, merge the Software into another program or create derivative works based upon the Software. You may not transfer your rights under this Agreement to any third parties.

Identified Software. Your license rights to the Software are conditioned upon your (i) not incorporating Identified Software into, or combining Identified Software with, the Software or a derivative work thereof; (ii) not distributing Identified Software in conjunction with the Software or a derivative work thereof; and (iii) not using Identified Software in the development of a derivative work of the Software. "Identified Software" means software which is licensed pursuant to terms that directly or indirectly (1) create, or purport to create, obligations for Philips with respect to the Software or derivative work thereof; or (2) grant, or purport to grant, to any third party any rights or immunities under Philips’ intellectual property or proprietary rights in the Software or derivative work thereof. Identified Software includes, without limitation, any software that requires as a condition of use, modification and/or distribution of such software that other software incorporated into, derived from or distributed with such software be (A) disclosed or distributed in source code form; (B) be licensed for the purpose of making derivative works; or (C) be redistributable at no charge.

Termination. This Agreement shall be effective upon installation or first use of the Software and shall terminate (i) at the discretion of Philips, due to your failure to comply with any term of this Agreement; or (ii) upon destruction of all copies of the Software and related materials provided to you by Philips hereunder. Philips’s rights and your obligations shall survive the termination of this Agreement. Upon termination of this Agreement by Philips, you shall certify in writing to Philips that all copies of the Software, or any portion thereof, have either been returned to Philips or otherwise destroyed or deleted.

Limited Warranty. Philips warrants that the Software will perform substantially in accordance with the written user documentation accompanying the Software for a period of ninety (90) days after receipt by you. Philips’s entire liability and your exclusive remedy for breach of this warranty shall be, at Philips’s option, either (i) return of the price paid by you (if any); or (b) repair or replacement of the Software that does not meet the warranty set forth herein and that is returned to Philips with a copy of your receipt. This limited warranty shall be void if failure of the Software has resulted from any accident, abuse, misuse or misapplication by you. Any replacement Software will be warranted for the remainder of the original warranty period or thirty (30) days, whichever is longer. This limited warranty shall not apply to you if you are using the Software on an evaluation only basis.

NO OTHER WARRANTIES. EXCEPT AS SET FORTH ABOVE, THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED ON AN “AS IS” BASIS. PHILIPS AND ITS SUPPLIERS DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SOFTWARE WILL OPERATE ERROR FREE OR UNINTERRUPTED, OR WILL MEET YOUR REQUIREMENTS. YOU ASSUME ALL RESPONSIBILITIES FOR SELECTION OF THE SOFTWARE TO ACHIEVE YOUR INTENDED RESULTS, AND FOR THE INSTALLATION OF, USE OF, AND RESULTS OBTAINED FROM THE SOFTWARE. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY

APPLICABLE LAW, PHILIPS AND ITS SUPPLIERS DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES AND CONDITIONS, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND ACCURACY OR COMPLETENESS OF RESULTS WITH RESPECT TO THE SOFTWARE AND THE ACCOMPANYING MATERIALS. THERE IS NO WARRANTY AGAINST INTERFERENCE WITH THE ENJOYMENT OF THE SOFTWARE OR AGAINST INFRINGEMENT.

LIMITATION OF LIABILITY. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WILL PHILIPS OR ITS LICENSORS BE LIABLE FOR ANY CONSEQUENTIAL, SPECIAL, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES WHATSOEVER, INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF PROFITS OR REVENUES, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, LOSS OF BUSINESS INFORMATION, LOSS OF DATA, LOSS OF USE OR OTHER PECUNIARY LOSS, EVEN IF PHILIPS OR ITS LICENSORS HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. IN NO EVENT SHALL PHILIPS’ OR ITS LICENSORS’ AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF THIS AGREEMENT EXCEED THE GREATER OF THE PRICE ACTUALLY PAID BY YOU FOR THE SOFTWARE OR FIVE UNITED STATES DOLLARS (U.S.$5.00).

U.S. Government Restricted Rights. Use, reproduction, release, modification, or disclosure of the Software is restricted in accordance with FAR 12.212, 52.227-14, DFARS 227.7202, DFARS 252-227-7013 as well as by this Agreement.

Trademarks. Certain of the product and Philips names used in this Agreement, the Software, and the written user documentation may constitute trademarks of the Philips, its licensors or other third parties. You are not authorized to use any such trademarks.

Export Administration. You agree that you will not directly or indirectly, export or re-export the Software to any country for which the United States Export Administration Act, or any similar United States law or regulation requires an export license or other U.S. Government approval, unless the appropriate export license or approval has first been obtained. By downloading or installing the Software you agree to abide by this Export provision.

General. This Agreement is governed by the laws of California, without reference to its conflict of laws principles. Any dispute between you and Philips regarding this Agreement shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Santa Clara County, California. This Agreement is the entire agreement between you and Philips and supersedes any other communications or advertising with respect to the Software and documentation. If any provision of this Agreement is held invalid, the remainder of this Agreement will continue in full force and effect.

1. Introduzione

Congratulazioni per aver acquistato una scheda audio Ultimate Edge! Ultimate Edge è stata progettata per trasformare il vostro computer in un PC multimediale di ultima generazione. Siamo certi che otterrete dal vostro PC il meglio in fatto di funzioni e prestazioni audio.

Questo documento contiene le informazioni necessarie per capire tutte le funzioni della nuova scheda audio e dell’interfaccia grafica utente PSA2 HD. Esso include inoltre le istruzioni su come installare i nuovi driver hardware e software. Prima di installare la scheda audio, si raccomanda di dedicare qualche minuto a comprenderne il funzionamento.

• Con l’attivazione della modalità Altoparlanti a 5.1 canali, l'esclusiva tecnologia

QMSS5.1 crea 6 canali audio indipendenti provenienti da TUTTE le sorgenti stereo.

• La tecnologia QSurround potenzia le sorgenti Dolby Digital a 6 canali e riempie la separazione dei gap sonori esistente tra gli altoparlanti, per offrire un’esperienza audio avvolgente a 360 gradi, fluida e naturale. • Il filtro dinamico attivo presente nei nuovi componenti QSizzle e Qrumble introduce algoritmi di arricchimento della bassa, media e alta frequenza che favoriscono il ripristino della fedeltà sonora per file digitali ad alta compressione come MP3 e WMA. Una volta attivato, rende eccezionale l’ascolto degli MP3.

• La tecnologia QInteractive3D consente di ottenere un posizionamento preciso dell’audio 3D con tutte le configurazioni di uscita cuffie e altoparlanti ed è compatibile con i giochi DirectSound3D, EAX 1.0, EAX 2.0/I3D Livello 2 e A3D.

• Il potenziamento stereo di QXpander crea ingressi in audio surround 3D virtuale, con qualsiasi tipo di cuffia o configurazione a 2 altoparlanti.

1.2. Requisiti di sistema minimi

Inoltre, vari giochi e applicazioni DVD potrebbero richiedere limiti superiori rispetto a quelli riportati sopra.

2. Installazione della nuova scheda audio

Sebbene l’installazione della scheda audio Philips Ultimate Edge sia particolarmente semplice, si consiglia di leggere con attenzione tutte le procedure indicate prima di proseguire. Per ulteriori informazioni, leggere le indicazioni fornite di seguito.

Nota: i computer sono di modelli e forme diverse. In questo manuale viene indicata una procedura di installazione generale. Prima di procedere con l’installazione, si consiglia di confrontare le illustrazioni riportate nel manuale con l’aspetto del computer in uso.

2.1. Guida rapida di installazione

Questa Guida rapida di installazione è stata concepita per gli utenti già in possesso di una conoscenza approfondita di hardware e software per PC e che pertanto non necessitano di informazioni particolareggiate per l’installazione di nuove apparecchiature. Per spiegazioni più dettagliate e istruzioni passo passo, consultare la Guida di installazione dettagliata nella sezione successiva.

2.1.1. Passo 1

Scollegare il cavo di alimentazione e tutti i dispositivi collegati al PC. Rimuovere qualsiasi scheda audio precedentemente installata. La scheda audio esistente può essere aggiuntiva o un dispositivo audio integrato. Se si tratta di un dispositivo audio integrato, esso deve essere disabilitato dal BIOS. Ricordare di disinstallare tutti i driver audio servendosi dei programmi di disinstallazione corrispondenti o dell’utility del Pannello di controllo (Installazione applicazioni).

2.1.2. Passo 2

Installare Ultimate Edge in uno degli slot PCI disponibili, preferibilmente a distanza dallo slot AGP. In alcuni computer, l’installazione della scheda audio accanto allo slot AGP può provocare conflitti tra le risorse.

2.1.3. Passo 3

Installare i driver PSA2 HD e l’interfaccia utente dal CD dei driver. La mancata installazione di PSA2 HD limiterà la scheda audio alla sola uscita stereo.

Collegare almeno un altoparlante stereo autoalimentato per PC agli appositi connettori della scheda audio Ultimate Edge. Eseguire PSA2 HD facendo doppio clic sull’icona PSA2 HD nella barra delle applicazioni ed acquisire dimestichezza con tutte le funzioni dei pannelli di controllo. Al fine di agevolare l’approccio a questa semplice interfaccia utente e definirne le varie funzioni sono stati introdotti numerosi suggerimenti.

In assenza di audio dagli altoparlanti, eseguire il test dalla scheda “Impostazioni” del “pannello di controllo principale”. Per ulteriori informazioni fare riferimento alle sezioni Guida di installazione dettagliata o Risoluzione dei problemi di questo documento.

2.2. Guida di installazione dettagliata

Si raccomanda di tenere a disposizione la documentazione relativa al PC e alla vecchia scheda audio e di consultarla per rimuovere o disattivare la scheda audio attualmente presente nel PC.

2.2.1. Prima di installare la nuova scheda audio

Prima di iniziare a installare la nuova scheda audio, è necessario determinare se il computer dispone già di una scheda audio o di un dispositivo audio integrato sulla scheda madre. Il computer supporta un solo dispositivo audio attivo. È pertanto necessario rimuovere o disabilitare eventuali sistemi audio esistenti prima di installare la scheda Ultimate Edge. Tale operazione è

particolarmente importante e la mancata esecuzione potrebbe causare un funzionamento non corretto della scheda Ultimate Edge.

I paragrafi e le illustrazioni successivi aiutano a identificare il tipo di sistema audio presente nel PC. Per disattivare o rimuovere il vecchio sistema audio consultare la sezione corrispondente.

2.2.2. Identificazione del vecchio sistema audio

Controllare la parte sul retro del computer in cui sono presenti gli slot PCI, in genere in basso nei case tower e mini tower e a destra nei desktop. Tutti i connettori audio sono allineati su una staffa da 4". Vedere la Figura 1.

Se il sistema audio è integrato sulla scheda madre, in genere i connettori sono simili a quelli della scheda aggiuntiva, ma non sono su staffa. Essi potrebbero essere riuniti in una o due file. La Figura 2 illustra due esempi di connettori audio integrati.

Se sul PC non è installato alcun sistema audio, passare alla sezione 2.2.5. Installazione della scheda audio del manuale.

Se si è certi che sul PC è installata una scheda audio aggiuntiva, passare alla sezione

2.2.4. Disinstallazione della scheda audio e dei driver precedenti del manuale. Se si è certi che sul PC è disponibile un sistema audio integrato, passare alla sezione

2.2.3. Disabilitazione del sistema audio integrato del manuale.

2.2.3. Disabilitazione del sistema audio integrato

Per disabilitare il sistema audio integrato è necessario accedere all’utility del BIOS di sistema. Avviso: non modificare nessun’altra impostazione del BIOS, altrimenti il sistema potrebbe non funzionare correttamente. Fare riferimento alla documentazione relativa al sistema in uso, per informazioni su come accedere all’utility del BIOS. Fare riferimento all’Appendice C per alcuni esempi di procedure dei disabilitazione di sistemi audio integrati. Una volta disabilitato il sistema audio integrato, passare alla sezione 2.2.5. Installazione della scheda audio del manuale.

2.2.4. Disinstallazione della scheda audio e dei driver precedenti

Disinstallare i driver delle schede audio eventualmente installate in precedenza. Tale operazione è particolarmente importante e la mancata esecuzione potrebbe causare un funzionamento non corretto della scheda Ultimate Edge. Prima di rimuovere la vecchia scheda audio dal PC è

necessario disinstallare il driver. Per ulteriori informazioni, consultare la documentazione della scheda audio in questione. Nell’Appendice B vengono fornite alcune utili informazioni generali sulla disinstallazione dei driver audio precedenti.

Una volta rimossi i driver, spegnere il computer e scollegare il cavo di alimentazione e tutti i dispositivi collegati al computer.

Attenzione: L’elettricità statica può danneggiare la scheda audio in modo permanente.

Per evitare danni:

1. Afferrare sempre la scheda audio dai bordi. Evitare di toccare i componenti elettronici della scheda.

2. Prima di procedere all’installazione procurarsi una fascetta di messa a terra oppure toccare una parte non verniciata del telaio del computer, in modo da scaricare l’elettricità statica.
