- Children should be supervised to ensure that
they do not play with the appliance.
Caution
- Do not immerse the motor unit in water or
any other liquid, nor rinse it under the tap.
- This appliance can only be operated on a
battery.
- Do not use the appliance when the cutting
element of the precision trimming head, the
precision trimming comb or the motor unit
are damaged or broken, as this may cause
injury.
- Use and store the appliance at a temperature
between 15°C and 35°C.
- This appliance is only intended for shaping and
trimming facial and neck hair. Do not use the
appliance for any other purpose.
- Remove the battery from the appliance if you
are not going to use it for some time.
- If the appliance is subjected to a major change
in temperature, pressure or humidity, let the
appliance acclimatise for 30 minutes before
you use it.
- For hygienic reasons, the appliance should only

Preparing for use
1 To remove the battery compartment cover,
turn it to the left until the setting indicator
points to the ‘open’ indication ( ^). (Fig. 2)
2 Pull the motor unit off the battery
compartment cover (Fig. 3).
3 Put the battery in the battery
compartment (Fig. 4).
Make sure the + and - poles of the battery point in
the right direction.
Note: The appliance runs on one R6 AA 1.5-volt
battery (included). Preferably use Philips alkaline
batteries. A new AA alkaline battery has an operating
time of up to 2 hours.
4 Slide the battery compartment cover back
onto the motor unit. Turn the cover to the
right until the setting indicator points to the
‘off’ indication (0) (Fig. 5).
To avoid damage due to battery
leakage:
- do not expose the appliance to direct sunlight.
- do not expose the appliance to temperatures
higher than 35°C.
- remove the battery if you are not going to use
the appliance for a month or more.
- do not leave an empty battery in the appliance.
Using the appliance
Before you use the appliance for the rst time, test
it on a small part of your arm or leg.
If any irritation or allergic reaction occurs,
discontinue use immediately. Do no use the
trimmer on sensitive or irritated skin.
Shaping with the precision trimming
head
You can use the precision trimming head to shape
and maintain beard, sideburns and neck. You can
also use the precision trimming head to trim neck
hair.

General
1 To switch on the appliance, turn the battery
compartment cover to the right until the
setting indicator points to the ‘on’ indication
(I) (Fig. 6).
2 Use the appliance as described in section
‘Precision trimming with precision trimming
comb’ and ‘Precision trimming without
precision trimming comb’.
3 To switch off the appliance, turn the battery
compartment cover to the left until the
setting indicator points to the ‘off’ indication
(0) (Fig. 7).
Precision trimming with precision
trimming comb
With the precision trimming comb, you can trim to
a length of 6mm.
Note: When you use the precision trimming head
for the rst time, always put the precision trimming
comb on the precision trimming head.
1 Push the precision trimming comb onto the
precision trimming head. (Fig. 8)
2 To trim most effectively, move the appliance
against the direction of hair growth. (Fig. 9)
Note: Make smooth and gentle movements and
make sure the surface of the precision trimmer comb
always stays in contact with the skin.
Precision trimming without precision
trimming comb
With the precision trimming head without comb,
you can trim to a length of 1mm, the so-called
‘stubble look’.
1 Pull the precision trimming comb off the
precision trimming head. (Fig. 10)
2 To trim most effectively, move the appliance
against the direction of hair growth, (Fig. 11)
Note: Make smooth and gentle movements and make
sure the surface of the precision trimmer always stays
in contact with the skin.
Cleaning
Clean the appliance immediately after use and
when a lot of hair or dirt has accumulated on the
cutting elements.
Caution: Do not immerse the motor unit in
water or any other liquid, nor rinse it under
the tap.
Never use compressed air, scouring pads, abrasive
cleaning agents or aggressive liquids such as
petrol or acetone to clean the appliance.
Do not tap on the cutting element.
Do not use any sharp objects to clean the cutting
element.
1 Make sure the appliance is switched off.
2 Detach the precision trimming head from
the motor unit to clean it. Turn the precision
trimming head to the right until the setting
indicator points to the ‘open’ indication
(black upward arrowhead). Then pull the
precision trimming head off the motor unit.

3 Rinse the precision trimming head and the
precision trimming comb with lukewarm
water (Fig. 13)
4 Let all parts dry completely before you use
the appliance again.
5 To reattach the precision trimming head,
align the setting indicator with the ‘open’
indication (black upward arrowhead) and put
the precision trimming head on the motor
unit. Then turn the precision trimming head
to the left until the setting indicator points to
the ‘closed’ indication (I). (Fig. 14)
Replacement
If the comb is damaged or worn, always replace
it with an original Philips comb, which is available
from authorised Philips service centres.
If the cutting element of the precision trimming
head is damaged or worn, replace the precision
trimming head. You can obtain a new precision
trimming head from authorised Philips service
centres.
Environment
- Batteries contain substances that may pollute
the environment. Remove the battery when
it is empty or when you discard the appliance.
Do not throw away the battery with the
normal household waste, but hand it in at an
ofcial collection point (Fig. 15).
- Do not throw away the appliance with the
normal household waste at the end of its life,
but hand it in at an ofcial collection point for
recycling. By doing this, you help to preserve
the environment (Fig. 16).
