Introduction
.
This Philips Duometricks has been specially designed to give beautiful results
in a controlled and gentle way. The ceramic-coated interchangeable plates
protect the hair and provide ultra-smooth results. The removable comb
attachment optimally guides the straightening plates through your hair. The
steam function allows you to straighten or crimp your hair in a gentle way to
give it a healthy, shiny look and to produce long-lasting results. With the
crimping plates you can add texture and volume to your hair.
Important
.
Read these instructions for use carefully before using the appliance and save
them for future reference.
◗ Check if the voltage indicated on the appliance corresponds to the
local mains voltage before you connect the appliance.
◗ Check the condition of the mains cord regularly. Do not use the
appliance if the plug, the cord or the appliance itself is damaged.
◗ If the mains cord is damaged, it must be replaced by Philips, a service
centre authorised by Philips or similarly qualified persons in order to
avoid a hazard.
◗ Keep this appliance away from water! Do not use this product near or
over water contained in baths, washbasins, sinks etc. When used in a
bathroom, unplug the appliance after use since the proximity of water
presents a risk.
◗ For additional protection, we advise you to install a residual current
device (RCD) with a rated residual operating current not exceeding
30mA in the electrical circuit supplying the bathroom. Ask your
installer for advice.
◗ Keep the plates clean and free of dust, dirt, styling spray and gel. Never
use the appliance in combination with styling mousse, styling spray, gel
etc.
◗ The plates have a ceramic coating. This coating will wear in the course
of time. When this happens, the appliance will still function normally.
◗ If the appliance overheats, it will switch off automatically. Unplug the
appliance and let it cool down for a few minutes.
◗ Keep the appliance out of the reach of children.
◗ Only use the appliance on dry or damp hair.
◗ The plates of the appliance become hot during use. Prevent contact
with the skin.
◗ Always unplug the appliance after use.
◗ Wait until the appliance has cooled down before storing it.
◗ Do not wind the mains cord round the appliance.
Preparing for use
.
1 Snap the ceramic-coated straightening or crimping plates onto the
appliance (fig. 1).
2 When you have put the straightening plates on the appliance, snap the
removable comb onto the side of the appliance opposite to the one
where the Cool Tip water reservoir is located (fig. 2).
The removable comb will guide the straightening plates through the hair
more easily.
3 Unscrew the Cool Tip water reservoir from the appliance and fill it
with cold water under a gently running tap (fig. 3).
The appliance can be used with or without water.
4 Keep the appliance upside down and screw the water reservoir back
onto the appliance (fig. 4).
Using the appliance
.
1 Insert the plug into the wall socket.
◗ There is a ready dot on the appliance. When the appliance has heated
up, the ready dot will change colour to indicate that the appliance is
ready for use. This will take approx. 10 minutes (fig. 5).
2 While the appliance is heating up, comb or brush your hair so that it is
disentangled and smooth. Use a comb to divide the hair into locks. Do
not put too much hair in one lock (fig. 6).
3 To straighten your hair, take an approx. 2-inch (5-cm) wide lock of
hair, place it between the straightening plates and press the handles of
the appliance together. Start straightening at the roots (fig. 7).
4 If you have filled the Cool Tip water reservoir with water, the
appliance will automatically give off steam when you press the handles
together (fig. 8).
6 To create crimps, take an approx. 2-inch (5-cm) wide lock of hair,
place it between the crimping plates and press the handles of the
appliance together (fig. 10).
Keep the crimping plates in position for 5 seconds and then release your
pressure on the handles to allow the hair to slip out from between the plates.
◗ Repeat the process until you have achieved the desired look. Allow
your hair to cool down. Do not comb or brush it, as this would ruin
the hairstyle you have just created.
Cleaning
.
Always unplug the appliance before cleaning it.
Never rinse the appliance with water.
1 Clean the appliance with a damp cloth.
2 To prevent the build-up of scale, you should descale the appliance
regularly. Add 3-4 drops of vinegar to the Cool Tip water reservoir,
top up with water and screw it back onto the appliance. Insert the plug
into the wall socket. Wait 10 minutes and press the handles of the
appliance together 10 times at 20-second intervals to release steam.
Then unplug the appliance and rinse the Cool Tip water reservoir
under a tap.
Storage
.
Always unplug the appliance before storing it.
◗ Unscrew the Cool Tip water reservoir and pour out the remaining
water (fig. 11).
◗ Put the appliance in a safe place and let it cool down.
◗ Do not wind the mains cord round the appliance.
◗ The appliance can be stored by hanging it from its hanging loop (fig. 12).
