Introduction
Congratulations on your purchase and welcome to Philips! To fully benet from the support that Philips oers, register your product at www.philips.com/welcome. This new SENSEO machine (HD6554, HD6555, HD6556) oers you more choice with Intensity Select. Next to the long, smooth SENSEO coee you can also brew a strong, smaller SENSEO coee by simply pressing the button twice.
Clean cold water
Use clean cold water every day. If you have not used the machine for 1 day, you have to ush it with clean cold water before you use it again. To ush the machine, ll the water reservoir with clean cold water, place a bowl or 2 cups under the spout and press the 2-cup button a few times to brew hot water until the water reservoir is empty.
Fresh coee pods
Use the SENSEO® coee pods that have been specially developed for your SENSEO® coee machine for a full, round taste. SENSEO® coee pods stay fresh longer when you store them in a storage container.
A clean machine
Clean and descale the Philips SENSEO® coee machine every 3 months. For more information on why it is important to descale, how to descale or which descaler to use, visit our website at www.philips.com/descale-senseo.

Warning
- Check if the voltage indicated on the bottom of the machine corresponds to the local mains voltage before you connect the machine.
- Always put the plug in an earthed wall socket.
- Do not use the machine if the plug, the mains cord or the machine itself is damaged.
- Always unplug the machine before you clean it.
- If the mains cord is damaged, you must have it replaced by Philips, a service center authorized by Philips or similarly qualied persons in order to avoid a hazard.
- This machine can be used by children aged from 8 years and above and by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the machine in a safe way and if they understand the hazards involved.
- Cleaning and user maintenance shall not be made by children unless they are older than 8 and supervised.
- Keep the machine, its accessories and its cord out of the reach of children aged less than 8 years.
- Children shall not play with the machine.
Caution
- Always return the machine to a service center authorized by Philips for examination or repair. Do not attempt to repair the machine yourself, otherwise your warranty becomes invalid.
- After unpacking the machine, never put the machine on its side. Always keep it in upright position, also during transport.
- Never put normal ground coee or use torn pods in the pod holder, as this causes it to become blocked.
- Do not use the machine in combination with a transformer, as this could cause hazardous situations.
- Do not use the machine in combination with water softeners based on sodium exchange.
- Always put the machine on a at and stable surface.
- Do not place the machine on a hotplate or directly next to a hot oven, heater or similar source of heat.

- Never pour any other liquid than clean cold water into the water reservoir.
- Flush the machine with fresh water before you use it for the rst time. This causes the system to ll with water, which is essential for the machine to work properly.
- Descale the machine at least every 3 months. If you do not descale the machine regularly, it may stop working properly. In this case, repair is not covered by your warranty.
- Never interrupt the descaling process.
- Never use a descaling agent based on mineral acids such as sulphuric acid, hydrochloric acid, sulphamic acid and acetic acid (e.g. vinegar). These descaling agents may damage your coee machine.
- The machine is intended for normal household use only. It is not intended for use in environments such as sta kitchens of shops, oces, farms or other work environments, nor is it intended to be used by clients in hotels, motels, bed and breakfasts and other residential environments.

Problem Possible cause Solution
My coee cup overows with cold coee
The indicator light ashes slowly.
The indicator light ashes quickly.
The coee is not hot enough.
The coee temperature in the cup decreases quickly.
Intensity select: after pressing the coee button twice, I do not get a stronger coee.
I cannot open the lid.
You did not ush the machine before rst use.
The machine is heating up.
There is not enough water in the water reservoir
The oat in the water reservoir may be stuck.
You need to descale the machine.
Do not use cups that are too large.
You have pressed the coee button twice too fast or you have waited longer than 3 seconds after pressing the button for the rst time.
A temporary vacuum has developed under the lid.
Always ush the machine before rst use.
If this takes longer than 2 minutes, contact the Philips Consumer Care Center in your country
Fill the water reservoir and make sure you place the water reservoir properly into the machine.
Empty the water reservoir and shake it a few times to release the oat. Clean the water reservoir with hot water and some washing-up liquid or in the dishwasher.
Descale the machine according to the instructions.
Use thin-walled cups. Thin-walled cups absorb less heat from the coee than thick-walled cups.
You can preheat the coee machine and cup by brewing a cup of hot water rst without placing a coee pod in the pod holder.
Pressing the coee button twice to get a stronger coee is possible within a time frame of 3 seconds. The LED light on the machine will shine less bright if the programming was successful.
Switch o the coee machine. Pull up the lever and wait 24 hours before you open the lid. You may need to use some force. Always make sure the pod holders are clean and the sieve is not clogged to prevent a vacuum.
The coee machine produces less coee than before.
I cannot close the lid properly.
The coee is not strong enough.
The coee is too strong.
Water leaks from the coee machine.

Perhaps a used coee pod is sticking to the water distribution disk.
You may not have used the right number of pods or may have pressed the wrong button.
The pod(s) may not have been placed in the pod holder properly.
You may have used the same pod twice.
Perhaps you need a dierent avor.
HD6554, HD6555, HD6556: Use intensity select.
Perhaps you need a dierent avor.
Perhaps you pressed the 1-cup or 2-cup button twice.
You have not closed the lid properly.
You overlled the water reservoir.
The sieve in the center of the pod holder may be clogged.
The sealing ring may be stuck under the edge of the distribution disk.
Water drops on the worktop may be the result of placing the water reservoir or removing used coee pods.
The machine has been stored in a room that was not frost-free.
If the sieve is clogged, use a washing-up brush to unclog the sieve. If you cannot unclog it properly with the washing-up brush, put the pod holder in the machine and descale the machine according to the instructions.
This machine has Intensity Select. If you press the button twice, you get a smaller cup of stronger coee.
If this is the case, remove the used pod.
Use 1 pod in combination with the 1-cup pod holder and the 1-cup button. Use 2 pods in combination with the 2-cup pod holder and the 2-cup button.
Place the coee pod(s) properly in the center of the pod holder, to prevent water from escaping along the edge of the pod(s). When you use two coee pods on top of each other, make sure that the convex sides of both pods point downwards and press the pods lightly into the pod holder. Make sure that the coee in the pod is distributed evenly.
Place a new pod in the pod holder to brew a fresh cup of coee.
If you prefer a more robust avor, SENSEO® coee pods with a stronger blend are available.
Press the button twice to brew one or two small cups of stronger coee.
If you prefer a milder avor, SENSEO® coee pods with a milder blend are available.
This machine has Intensity Select. If you press the button twice, you get a smaller cup of stronger coee.
Close the lid properly and lock the lever.
Do not ll the water reservoir beyond the MAX level.
Check the pod holder. If the sieve is clogged, use a washingup brush to unclog the sieve. If you cannot clean it properly with the washing-up brush, put the pod holder in the machine and descale the machine according to the instructions.
Check if the sealing ring is stuck under the edge of the distribution disk. If it is, pull it out from under the distribution disk carefully.
Check if the water drops on the worktop are not the result of placing or removing the water reservoir or removing used coee pods. Make sure that you do not remove the water reservoir when the coee machine is heating up. This may cause water that normally ends up in the water reservoir to leak out of the machine.
In all other cases, contact the Philips Consumer Care Center in your country.
Contact the Philips Consumer Care. Center in your country.
Flush before rst use
Flush the machine before rst use. After the ushing cycle (which only takes approx. 2 minutes), the machine is ready for brewing coee.
Intensity Select (HD6556, HD6555, HD6554)
It is possible to brew even shorter stronger cups of coee by double pressing the 1-cup or 2-cup button.
Special coees
To brew a special coee, place a cappuccino pod, a hot chocolate pod or another special coee pod in the 2-cup pod holder and press the 1-cup button.
2x descaling, 2x rinsing
Descale the machine at least every 3 months. Use liquid Senseo descaler only. The descaling procedure consists of two descaling cycles and two ushing cycles. Each cycle lasts 5 minutes. Fill a jug with 1 liter of water, pour one half of the bottle in the jug and then pour the descaling mixture in the water reservoir. Press the 2-cup button several times until all descaling mixture is used up. You have to use 1 jug of descaling mixture for each descaling cycle. Use the 1-cup pod holder with a used pod or the thin descaling lter during the rst descaling cycle and use the 2-cup pod holder with a used pod or the thick descaling lter during the second descaling cycle. Fill the water reservoir with fresh water and press the 2-cup button several times until the water reservoir is empty. Repeat this for the second ushing cycle. Do not interrupt the descaling cycles and do not switch o the machine before you have performed the two ushing cycles. Throw used pods or descaling lters away after use.
