Important

Read the separate important information leaflet and the user manual carefully before you use the appliance. Save both documents for future reference.

Preparing for use

Filling the detachable water tank

Do not put hot water, perfume, vinegar, starch, descaling agents, ironing aids or other chemicals in the water tank.

Fill the water tank before use and as soon as the ‘water tank empty’ light flashes.

1Remove the detachable water tank from the steam generator and fill the water tank with tap water.

Note:Your appliance has been designed to be used with tap water. If you live in an area with very hard water, fast scale build-up may occur. In this case, it is recommended to mix 50% distilled water and 50% tap water to prolong the life of your appliance.

2 Slide the water tank back into the steam generator (‘click’).

’Water tank empty’ light

When the water tank is almost empty, the ‘water tank empty’ light goes on and steam ironing is no longer possible. Fill the water tank to continue steam ironing.

English 7

Using the appliance

OptimalTemp technology

Do not iron non-ironable fabrics.

This steam generator is equipped with OptimalTemp technology, which enables you to iron all types of ironable fabrics without adjusting the iron temperature or steam setting.

-- Fabrics with these symbols are ironable, for example linen, cotton, polyester, silk, wool, viscose and rayon.

-- Fabrics with this symbol are not ironable. These fabrics include synthetic fabrics such as Spandex or elastane, Spandex-mixed fabrics and polyolefins (e.g. polypropylene), but also prints on garments.

Ironing

1Place the steam generator on a stable and even surface.

2Make sure that there is enough water in the water tank (see section ‘Filling the detachable water tank’).

3Put the mains plug in an earthed wall socket and press the on/off button to switch on the steam generator. The ‘iron ready’ light starts to flash,to indicate that the steam generator is heating up

(this takes approx. 2 minutes).

,, When the ‘iron ready’ light lights up continuously, the steam generator is ready for use.

4Specific types only:Press the carry lock release button to unlock the iron from the iron platform.

8 English

5 Press and hold the steam trigger to start Ironing.

Keep the trigger constantly pressed when moving the iron over the fabric.

Vertical steam ironing

Hot steam is emitted from the iron. Never attempt to remove creases from a garment that someone is wearing. Do not apply steam near your or someone else’s hand.

You can use the steam iron in vertical position to remove wrinkles from hanging fabrics.

1 Hold the iron in vertical position, press the steam trigger and touch the garment lightly with the soleplate.

Putting down the iron during ironing

-- During ironing, you can place the iron either on the iron platform or horizontally on the ironing board. Thanks to the OptimalTemp technology, the soleplate will not damage the ironing board cover.

To maintain a good gliding of your soleplate, it is recommended to clean it regularly (once every 2 months). You can do that by heating up the iron and moving the soleplate over a moist cloth.

Descaling the soleplate: if you do not descale your steam generator regularly, scale may build up on the soleplate. You can remove scale by following the instructions below:

Descale the steam generator before you clean the soleplate (see section ‘IMPORTANT - Descaling the steam generator’).

Tilt the steam generator and pour 500ml distilled water into the opening. Reinsert the EASY DE-CALC knob and turn the knob clockwise to fasten it.

Press the on/off button and wait for 5 minutes.

Put a piece of thick cloth on your ironing board. Place your iron on the cloth, press and hold the steam trigger. While pressing the steam trigger, slowly move the iron back and forth across the cloth until no water comes out anymore or when steam comes out.

Hot, dirty water comes out of the soleplate.

6Remove the EASY DE-CALC knob and let the water flow into a cup.

Reinsert the EASY DE-CALC knob and turn the knob clockwise to fasten it.

to prevent condensation on the ironing board.

Water droplets come out of the soleplate.

Steam and/or water comes out from under the EASY DE-CALC knob.

Dirty water and impurities come out of the soleplate.

The iron leaves a shine or an imprint on the garment.

The steam generator does not produce any steam.

The steam generator produces a pumping sound.

The steam that was still present in the hose has cooled down and condensed into water.

The EASY DE-CALC knob is not tightened properly.

Impurities or chemicals present in the water have deposited in the steam vents and/or on the soleplate.

Too much scale and minerals have accumulated inside the steam generator.

The surface to be ironed was uneven, for instance because you were ironing over a seam or a fold in the garment.

There is not enough water in the water tank (the ‘water tank empty’ light flashes).

Point the iron away from the garment and let it produce steam for a few seconds.

Switch off the appliance and wait for two hours for steam generator to cool down. Unscrew the EASY DE-CALC knob reattach it properly. Note:When you remove the knob, water comes out of the steam generator. If steam continues to escape, switch off the appliance and contact an authorised Philips service centre.

Descale the steam generator regularly. See section ‘Cleaning the soleplate’ in chapter ‘Cleaning and maintenance’.

Descale the steam generator regularly. See section ‘IMPORTANT - Descaling the steam generator’ in chapter ‘Cleaning and maintenance’.

PerfectCare is safe on all garments. The shine or imprint is not permanent and will come off if you wash the garment. Avoid ironing over seams or folds or you can place a cotton cloth over the area to be ironed to avoid imprints.

Fill the water tank.

The steam generator is not hot enough to produce steam.

You did not press the steam trigger.

The water tank is not placed properly in the steam generator.

Water is pumped into the boiler inside the steam generator. This is normal.

Wait until the ‘iron ready’ light on the iron lights up continuously.

Press the steam trigger and keep it pressed while you steam iron.

Slide the water tank firmly back into the steam generator (‘click’).

If the pumping sound continues nonstop, switch off the steam generator and remove the plug from the wall socket. Contact an authorised Philips service centre.
