DVDR3400 Firmware Upgrade
Firmware Upgrade
This upgrade is applicable for the following models:
• DVDR3400/37.
Improvements and fixes included in this release:
• Lip synchronization issue when recorded in Progressive Scan mode.
• Minor UI fixes during photo/music file playback.
Note: Please write down your current configuration settings as you will need them to reconfigure
the set after completing the firmware upgrade!
Upgrade Procedure

Step 1. Check your current version
First check your current firmware version to see if you need to upgrade:
1. Switch on the recorder without any disc in the DVD tray.
2. Press <0>, <0>, <0>, <9>, <OK> on the remote control.
3. The software version will be displayed on the TV screen as
"DVDR3400_xx_Vxx_xx, Drive: 45.04.xx.xx",or
“DVDR3400_xx_Vxx_xx, Drive: 51.05.xx.xx".
4. Compare the version shown on the TV screen with this firmware upgrade version:
DVDR3400_NAFTA_V09_04, Drive: 45.04.05.10, or
DVDR3400_NAFTA_V09_04, Drive: 51.05.02.07
5. If the current software version number iis lower than the above, proceed to Step 2 to upgrade your
firmware.
6. Otherwise, no upgrade is necessary.
Step 2. Download Firmware upgrade
Click the link above to download the new firmware package on your computer. The package is compressed into
a single ZIP archive: DVDR3400_NAFTA_V09_04.zip.

Step 3. Burning Upgrade on CD-R / CD-RW
1. Extract the firmware upgrade files from the ZIP archive:

PHILIPS_51050207.BIN
(Do not rename the filenames)
2. Burn the extracted files (not the ZIP file) onto a blank CD-R or CD-RW disc, with the following settings:
- File System: ISO 9660 + Joliet
- File name length : max11 chars = 8+3 (Level 1)
- Mode : 2/XA
- Character set : ISO 9660 (ISO norme CD-ROM)
- No multi session
- Write Speed : Low
3. Finalize the disc, if ncessary, although most CD burning applications will do this automatically.
Your upgrade disc is now ready!

Step 4. Apply Upgrade to your Recorder
1. Switch on the recorder and open the disc tray.
2. Place the the upgrade disc on the disc tray and close the tray.
3. If the disc is recognised as an upgrade disc, the local display of the recorder will show "SW UPGD". The
TV screen will show a dialog box titled “Disc Upgrade”
Note: The recorder
may indicate “Unknown Disc” in the following situations.

- If the firmware upgrade files are not meant for your recorder (Check the applicable
models above
- Problem with writing of upgrade CD-R/CD-RW disc. Try again with a different disc.
4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the upgrade process.
Note: Select an on-screen button by navigating to the button using the cursor keys and pressing <OK> on
the remote control.
5. The recorder and loader firmware will be upgraded sequentially. The whole process should take about 1
minute.
6. At the end of a successful firmware upgrade, the local display of recorder will show “SW DONE”, the
dialog box on TV screen will indicate successful upgrading and the disc tray will open.
7. Remove the upgrade disc and press <OK> on the remote control.
8. The recorder will close the tray and restart automatically after about 10 seconds.
Note: Sometimes, the recorder may not close the tray automatically. Do not be alarmed. Simply press
<STANDBY> on the remote control to wake up the recorder and the tray will close immediately.
Note: You can verify the firmware upgrade by repeating
Important : Do not press any buttons or interrupt the mains power supply during the entire
upgrading process, otherwise the recorder may become permanently unusable!
