SUPPLY
Battery supply
• Open the battery compartment (fig. 2) and insert as indicated eight batteries, type R20, UM1 or D-cells.
• The batteries supply sufficient power as long as the POWER indicator® lights brightly when the set is switched on.
• Remove the batteries if exhausted or if they will not be used again for a long period.
• The battery supply is switched off when socket AC MAINS 0 for mains lead is occupied.
Mains supply
• Check if the mains voltage as shown on the type plate corresponds to your local mains supply. If it does not, consult your dealer or service organisa tion.
If the set is equipped with a voltage selector®, set this selector to the local mains voltage.
Insert the female plug of the mains lead into socket AC MAINS 0 and the mains plug into the wall socket. The mains supply is now switched on.
• To disconnectthe setfrom the mains compietely, withdraw the mains plug from the wall socket.
Important note for users In UJC.-
When fitting a mains plug to the mains lead proceed as follows: The wires in the mains lead are coloured in accordance with the following code: Blue=Neutral, Brown=live. These colours may not correspond with the colour markings identifying the terminals in your plug, so proceed as follows: Connect the Brown wire to the terminal marked Lor coloured Red. Connect the Blue wire to the terminal marked N or coloured Black. No connection is necessary to the earth terminal.
Note: This apparatus must be protected by a 3 Amp Fuse if a
13 Amp plug is used or, if any other type of plug is used, by a 5 Amp
Fuse either In the plug or adapter or at the distribufion board. If In doubt consult a qualified electrician.

CD player, etc.
• Connect the CD/LINE IN sockets 0 to the output sockets TAPE OUT, REC OUT or LINE OUT of the other set.
OPERATION
RADIO RECEPTION

The desired sound source for reproduction or recording is selected using MODE selector ®.
• Position RADIO for:
- radio reception
- radio recording on deck В
• Position TAPE (cassette) for:
- cassette playback on deck A or deck В (or both)
- COPY A>B: copying (’dubbing’) from deck A to deck В
- CONTINUOUS AH-B ’continuous play AH’: play back of deck A, at the end of the cassette
automatically followed by playback of deck В
• Position CD/LINE IN for:
- listening to the signal from the CD/LINE IN
sockets @
- recording the signal from the CD/LINE IN
sockets ®
• Position MIC (microphone) for:
- mono recording on deck В from the microphone MIC ® (set VOLUME control ® to zero)
Important: In order to avoid undesired mixing of signals during recording and playback, the CD/ LINE IN sockets ® should be disconnected when not in use.
• Set the MODE selector © to RADIO.
• Select the wave band using BAND selector ©.
• Adjust the sound with the controls VOLUME @ and GRAPHIC EQUALIZER ®.
• Tune to a radio station using TUNING knob ®.
(LW and SW not on all versions)
- For FM-reception, pull out the telescopic aerial. To improve FM-reception, incline and turn the aerial. Reduce its length if the FM-signal is too strong (very close to a transmitter).
- For AM/MW and LW reception (Medium and
Long Wave), the set is provided with a built-in ferrite aerial, so there is no need to use the telescopic aerial. The ferrite aerial can be direc ted by turning the whole set.
- For Short Wave (SW) reception, the telescopic aerial must be pulled out and placed in the vertical position. To improve SW-reception, vary the length of the aerial.
• When FM MONO/STEREO selector ® is in position STEREO and the FM STEREO indicator© lights up, you are receiving a FM-stereo transmitter. A disturbing noise, due to a weak FM-stereo signal, can be suppressed by setting the FM MONO/STE
REO selector ® to MONO. The FM STEREO indicator ® will then go out and you will hear (and record) the FM programme in mono.
CASSETTE RECORDER

Sound adjustment
The sound reproduced by the loudspeakers or by
stereo headphones can be adjusted by means of the controls VOLUME ®, FM MONO/STEREO ® and GRAPHIC EQUALIZER ®.
• The VOLUME control ® enables adjustment of the sound volume.
• The GRAPHIC EQUALIZER® consists of sever al tone controls, each controlling its own pitch range. The five equalizer controls are centered on 100 Hz (lower bass), 300 H5 (upper bass), 1 kHz (1 000 Hz, mid-range), 4 kHz (4 000 Hz, lower tre ble) and 10 kHz (10 000 Hz, upper treble).
• The FM MONO/STEREO selector ® is only operative during FM stereo radio reception. In position FM MONO, you will hear (and record) the FM stereo programme in mono.
Compact cassettes
For recording, always use NORMAL or FERRO cassettes (ferric oxide, lEC type I).
For playback, any cassette type can be inserted.

Fast winding and rewinding
Press fast forward wind F.FWD ►► or REWIND 44 button. To stop fast winding, press STOP button ■.
End of the cassette
When the end of the tape is reached during recording, playback and fast forward winding or rewinding, the pressed recorder buttons will auto matically be released.
Tape counter (|) - deck A
Set the tape counter © to zero by pressing the zero reset button immediately after inserting a cassette. By noting the counter reading at which each recording commences, you will be able to locate any of your programmes rapidly by fast winding or rewinding to the same reading.
Safeguard against accidental erasure
To protect a recording e.g. on side 1 of the
cassette, break out the tab as shown in fig. 5. Now, recording on side You can render this safeguard ineffective by covering the aperture now existing with a piece of adhesive tape.

Recording on deck B
• Set the MODE selector © to position:
- RADIO for radio recordings
- TAPE for copying from deck A to deck B, see
'DUBBING'
- CD/LINE IN for recording from the CD/LINE IN
sockets @, see ’CONNECTIONS’
- MIC for a mono recording on deck B from the microphone ® (set VOLUME control® to zero)
Important:
- During recording, the deck A buttons should not
be pressed (except for dubbing).
- In order to avoid undesired mixing of signals during recording, the CD/LINE IN sockets ® should be disconnected when not in use.
• In case of FM stereo radio recordings, set FM MONO/STEREO selector ® to the desired posi tion.
• Press EJECT ■ to open the cassette holder.
• Insert the cassette into deck B (fig. 4). For recording you must use a cassette on which the tabs on the back (fig. 5) are not broken out.
• Now start recording by pressing RECORD •; in doing so, PLAY ► is automatically pressed too. . At the very beginning of the tape, no recording will take place during the first 7 seconds when the transparent leadertape passes the recorder heads.
The automatic recording level control ensures that
all sounds are recorded at the correct level.
• When monitoring during recording, adjust the sound with the controls VOLUME ® and GRAPHIC EQUALIZER ©. These controls do not affect the recording. Monitoring during microphone recordings is not possible (set the VOLUME control ® to zero).
• For brief interruptions, press PAUSE II. To restart recording, press this button once more.
• To stop recording, press STOP ■. On pressing again, the cassette holder will open.
DUBBING - Copying from deck A to deck B
When copying, it recommended to use fresh
batteries or to connect the set to the mains.
• Set MODE selector ® to TAPE.
• Set the DUBBING SPEED selector ® to: M. (released) for NORMAL speed dubbing;
(pressed) for HIGH speed dubbing; the in dicator lights up then.
Note: Do not press this button during dubbing.
• Press both EJECT buttons ■ and insert a
recorded cassette into deck A and a cassette
which is suited for recording into deck B (fig. 4).
• Dubbing will start by pressing at the same time
the buttons PLAY ► on deck A and RECORD • on
deck B.
• To omit undesired passages, press PAUSE II on
deck B; deck A will continue the playback. To restart copying, press PAUSE
• Using the PAUSE button II of deck A, deck B will
record a blank part.
• To stop dubbing, press both STOP buttons ■.
Important: During dubbing the deck A button A& should not be pressed.

CASSETTE PLAYBACK____________
Cassette playback on deck A or B
• Set MODE selector ® to TAPE.
• Release (ji NORMAL) the DUBBING SPEED
selector ®.
• Press EJECT ■ and insert a recorded cassette
(fig. 4).
• Press PLAY ► and playback will start.
• Adjust the sound with the controls VOLUME ®
and GRAPHIC EQUALIZER @.
• During playback, the tape in the other deck
should not be fast forward wound or rewound, otherwise the actual cassette playback is affected.
• To stop playback, press STOP ■.
Continuous play - A&
• Set MODE selector ® to TAPE. ‘
• Release (ji. NORMAL) the DUBBING SPEED
selector ©.
• Press both EJECT buttons ■ and insert a recorded cassette into both decks (fig. 4).
• Press simuitaneously the deck A button A& (in doing so, PLAY ► is automaticaliy pressed too) and the deck B button PLAY ^: deck A will now play and deck B stands still.
• Adjust the sound with the controls VOLUME ®
and GRAPHIC EQUALIZER ®.
• As soon as the deck A buttons A& and PLAY ^ are released (at the end of the cassette or when its STOP button ■ is pressed), deck B will start playing back.
• When deck A is started again by pressing A&, deck B will come to a standstill and deck A will be reproduced again.
• During playback, the tape in the other deck should not be fast forward wound or rewound, otherwise the actual cassette playback is affected.
• To stop playback, press STOP ■.
MAINTENANCE
• Clean the parts indicated in fig. 6 after every 50 hours of operation or, on average, once a month.
- Open the cassette holder by pressing EJECT ■.
- Use a cotton bud slightly moistened with alcohol or a special head cleaning fluid.
- Press PLAY ► and ciean the rubber pressure roller (5) (fig. 6).
- Then press PAUSE II and ciean the capstan ©, recording/playback head © and erase head
- After cleaning, press STOP ■.
Cleaning of the heads © and ® can also be done by playing the cleaning cassette SBC 114 through
once as an ordinary cassette.
• The recorder-mechanisms are fitted with self­lubncating bearings and therefore must not be oiled or greased.
• Do not expose the set, batteries or cassettes to rain or moisture, or, for any great length of time, to excessive heat from heating equipment or direct sunshine, e.g. in motor cars parked in the sun.
• Keep the.set and the cassettes away from sand and do not store the cassettes too close to magnets, loudspeakers or transformers.
• Fingerprints, dust and dirt on the apparatus can be removed using a soft and clean, slightly damp leather cloth. Do not use any cleaning agents which
contain abrasives or solvents such as benzine thinner, alcohol, refined petrol or ammonia, since they may affect and harm the Oabinet.
