Batteries

Whenever convenient, use AC mains supply if you
want to conserve battery life.

• Open the battery compartment (fig. 2).

• Insert as indicated eight (preferably Alkaline)

batteries, type R20, UM1 or D-cells.

• Remove the batteries if exhausted or if they will not
be used again for a long period.

The batteries are switohed off when the set is

connected to the mains. To change over to batteries,
pull out the plug from the AC MAINS socket

• Check if the mains voltage as shown on the type
plate corresponds to your local mains supply. If it
does not, consult your dealer or service organisa
tion.

If the set is equipped with a VOLTAGE selector®, set

this selector to the local mains voltage.

• Connect the mains lead to the AC MAINS socket
® and the wall socket. The mains supply is now
switched on.

• To disconnect the set from the mains completely,
withdraw the mains plug from the wall socket.

Important note for users in U.K.:
When fitting a mains plug to the mains lead proceed as follows:
The wires in the mams lead are coloured in accordance with the
following code: B!ue»NeuUal. Bro'wnaUve.
These colours may not correspond with the colour markings identifying
the terminals in your plug, so proceed as follows:

Connect the Brown wire to the terminal marked L or coloured Red.
Connect the Blue wire to the terminal marked N or coloured Black.
No connection is necessary to the earth terminal.

Note: This apparatus must be protected by a 3 Amp Fuse if a 13 Amp

plug is used or. if any other type of plug is used, by a 5 Amp Fuse either
in the plug or adapter or at the distribution board. If in doubt consult
a qualified electrician.

COMPACT DISC

RADIO RECEPTION

• Set the ON/OFF MODE selector © to RADIO.

• Adjust the sound with the controls VOLUME ©,
GRAPHIC EQUAUZER © and DBB bass button ©.

• Select the wave band using BAND selector ©.

• Tune to a radio station using TUNING knob ®.

- For FM, pull out the telescopic aerial. To improve

FM-reception, incline and turn the aerial. Reduce
its length if the FM-signal is too strong (very close
to a transmitter).

- For AM/MW and LW (Medium and Long Wave), the
set is provided with a built-in aerial, so there is no
need to use the telescopic aerial. The aerial can
be directed by turning the whole set.

- For Short Wave (SW), the telescopic aerial must be
puiled out and placed in the vertical position. To
improve SW-reception, vary the length of the
aerial.

• When BAND selector © is in position FM STEREO

and the FM STEREO * indicator©lights up, you are
receiving a FM-stereo transmitter. A disturbing noise,
due to a weak FM-stereo signal, can be suppressed
by setting the BAND selector (7) to FM MONO. The
FM STEREO fit indicator © wiil then go out and you
will hear (and record) the FM programme in mono.

• To switch off the set, place ON/OFF MODE

selector © to TAPE - POWER OFF.

PLAYING A DISC

• Set ON/OFF MODE selector © to CD (Compa
Disc).

• Press CD OPEN ® to open the disc cover.

• Insert the disc, printed side facing the windc
(fig.3).

• Close the cover. The CD-player starts and tl
display shows After that, the number of trad
present on the disc appears on the display ©and tt
CD-player stops.

• Adjust the sound with the controls VOLUME (
GRAPHIC EQUAUZER ® and DBB bass button (

• Playback will start by pressing PLAY I>. As so(
as playback starts, the display shows the tra(
number 1 (1=’ title). When the 2"^ title is reached, tf
track number 2 appears, etc.

• For brief interruptions, press PAUSE 1111. Then tt
PAUSE indicator lights up. To continue playbac
press PAUSE again.

• To stop playback, press STOP □. The CD-play
also goes to position STOP:

- if the CD-player reaches the end of the disc;

- if you press CD OPEN ©;

- if you move the ON/OFF MODE selector ©;

- if the batteries get exhausted or if the power supp

is interrupted in another way.

• To take out the disc, open the disc cover t
pressing CD OPEN © Press CD OPEN ® only if tf
CD-player is in position STOP.

• To switch off the set, place ON/OFF MOC
selector © to TAPE - POWER OFF.

Remarks

- If the battery voltage is not sufficient any more f
playing a disc, the CD-player will not start.

-If the display © shows 'E' for ERROR, tf
CD-player cannot read the disc. Possible caust
are:

- you inserted the disc in the wrong way (tf

printed side should face the window);

- the surface of the disc is badly scratched i

dirty, see ’Maintenance’;

- the lens © (fig. 4) is steamed up because of
sudden transition from a cold into a war
environment; do not clean the lens, but let tf
set acclimatize for a while.

PROGRAMMING TRACK NUMBERS

Instead of playing a complete disc, you may select
a number of tracks and store these in the memory in
the desired sequence. When playing, you will hear
the stored titles in the selected sequence.

Manual selecting

• Programme in the STOP position.

• Press TRACK -i- and — until the display ©shows
the required track number.

• Store this track by pressing STORE.

Storing during INTROSCAN

• Press INTROSCAN to play the first few seconds of

each track.

• Press STORE as soon as you recognize a desired

title.

Storing during PLAY

• Press PLAY O.

• Press STORE if you want to store the running title.

-When pressing STORE the display will show the
character 'P', indicating that the track has been
stored.

- Store all desired titles in the required sequence. At
most 24 tracks can be stored in the memory. You

may store each track more than once. When the
memory is full, the character F (FULL) appears in the
display ©

-When pressing DISPLAY, the display will show in

sequence all stored track numbers.

-You can simply erase the whole memory by

pressing CLEAR.

The contents of the memory are also erased;

- if you press CD OPEN ©

- if you move the ON/OFF MODE selector ©;

- if the batteries get exhausted or if the power

supply is interrupted in another way.

- If the display ©shows the ERROR indicator you
gave an illogical operating command. The CD-player

remains in the PLAY mode.

How to play the stored selection

• If necessary, first press STOP □.

• Press PLAY n> and your selection is played.

CASSETTE

RECORDING

• Press EJECT ■ to open the cassette holder.

• Insert the cassette (fig. 6).
For recording you must use a NORMAL cassette
(ferric oxide, lEC type I) on which the tabs (fig. 7) are
not broken out.
At the very beginning of the tape, no recording will
take place during the first 7 seconds when the
transparent leader tape passes the recorder heads.

• When monitoring during recording, adjust the
sound with the controls VOLUME ©, GRAPHIC
EQUALIZER © and DBS bass button ®. These
controls do not affect the recording.

Recordfng from the CD-player

• Set ON/OFF MODE selector © to CD (Compact
Disc).

• Start recording by pressing RECORD •; in doing
so, PLAY ► is pressed too.
It's not necessary to start the CD-player separately:
if you press RECORD •, the CD-player starts
automatically (Synchro-Start):

- if the CD-player is in position STOP, recording will
start from the beginning of the disc (or from the
beginning of the stored selection);

- if the CD-player is in position PAUSE, recording will
start from this very position;

- in position INTROSCAN the CD-player will first
return to the beginning of that track and then
recording will start.

• For brief interruptions, press PAUSE II. To restart

recording, press this button once more.

• To stop recording, press STOP ■.

• To switch off the set, place ON/OFF MODE

selector © to TAPE - POWER OFF.

Recordfng from the radfo

• Set ON/OFF MODE selector © to RADIO.

• In case of FM radio recordings, set BAND selector

Keep the cassette side to be safeguarded in front c

You can render this safeguard ineffective by coverint
the aperture with a piece of adhesive tape.

MAINTENANCE

CD-PLAYER AND DISC MAINTENANCE______________

-The lens © (fig. 4) should never be cleaned.

-The lens may steam up when the set is taken from
a cold into a warm environment. Playing a disc is not
possible then. Do not clean the lens, but let the set
acclimatize for a while.

- Always pick up the disc by the edge and put it back
in Its box immediately after use.

-To remove dirt from a disc, breath on the disc first
and wipe it off in a straight line from centre to edge

(fig. 5) using a soft, lint-free cloth. The use of cleaning
agents may harm the disc.

CASSETTE RECORDER MAINTENANCE

Clean the parts ©b)©® indicated in fig. 8 after
every 50 hours of operation or, on average, once a
month.

• Open the cassette holder by pressing EJECT ■.

• Use a cotton bud siightiy moistened with alcohol
or a special head cleaning fluid.

• Press PLAY ► and clean the rubber pressure roller
©(fig. 8).

• Then press PAUSE II and clean erase head ®,

recording/playback head ® and capstan ®.

• After cleaning, press STOP ■.
Cleaning of the heads ® and ® can also be done
by playing the cleaning cassette SBC 114 through
once as an ordinary cassette.

Remarks

- The mechanisms of the CD-player and the cassette
deck are fitted with seif-lubricating bearings and
therefore must not be oiled or greased.

- Rngerprints, dust and dirt on the apparatus can be
removed using a soft, clean and slightly damp
leather cloth. Do not use any cleaning agents, since
they may affect and harm the cabinet.

- Keep the set, batteries, discs and cassettes away
from rain, moisture, sand and excessive heat, e.g.
near heating equipment or in cars parked in the sun.

für Ton- und Femseh-Rundfunkempfänger

Die allgemeine Ton-und Femseh-Rundiunkgenehmigung vom 11. De
zember 1970 (veröffentlicht im Bundesanzeiger Nr. 234 vom 16. De
zember 1970) wird unter Bezug auf Abschnitt m der Genehmigung
durch folgende Fassung der Allgemeinen Genehmigung für Ton- und
Fernseh-Rundfunkempfanger gemäß den §§ 1 und 2 des Gesetzes
über Fernmeldeanlagen ersetzt

Genehmigung für Ton- und Femseh-Rundfunkempfinger

1 Die Errichtung undderBetnebvonTon-undFemseh-Rundfunkemp-

■ langem werden nach §§ 1 und 2 des Gesetzes über Fernmeldean
lagen in der Fassung der Bekanntmachung vom 17.3.77 (BGBl.
IS 559) allgemein genehmigt

2 Ton- und Femseh-Rundfunkempfänger im Sinne dieser Geneh

migung sind Funkanlagen gemäß § 1 Abs. 1 des Gesetzes Uber
Fernmeldeanlagen, die ausschließlich die für Rundfunkempfänger
zugelassenen Frequenzabstimmbereiche *
Aufnahmen und gleichzeitigen Hör- oder Sichlbarmachen von Ton
oder Femseh-Rundfunksendungen bestimmt sind. Zum Empfänger
gehören auch eingebaute oder mit ihm fest verbundene Antennen
so'wie bei Unterteilung in mehrere Geräte die funklionsmaßig
zugehörenden Geräte
Außer für den Empfang von Rundfunksendungen dürfen Ton- und
Fernseh- Rundfunkempfänger nur mit besonderer Genehmigung der
Deutschen Bundespost für andere Femmeldezwecke zusätzlich
benutzt werden
In den Empfänger eingebaute oder sonst mit ihm verbundene
Zusatzgeräte (z B Ultraschallfemmeldeaniagen. Infrarolfemmelde­anlagen) werden von dieser Genehmigung nicht erfaßt (ausgenom
men die Einnchtungen zum Empfang des Verkehrsnmdfunks,
Desgleichen sind andere technische Empfangereigenschaften, die
über den eigentlichen Zweck eines Rundfunkempfängers hinaus-

V gehen (zB zum Empfang anderer Funkdienste, für die Wiedergabe

im Rahmen vonTextUbertragungsverfahren). hierdurch nicht geneh
migt Hierfür gellen besondere Regelungen.

Diese Genehmigung wird unter nachstehenden Auflagen erteilt:

1 Ton- und Femseh-Rundfunkempfänger müssen den jeweils gel

tenden Technischen Vorschriften für Ton- und Femseh-Rundfun
kempfänger entsprechen Eingebaute Zusatzgeräte müssen den für
sie geltenden Bestimmungen und technischen Vorschriften genü
gen
Änderungen der Technischen Vorschriften, die im Amtsblatt des
Bundesminisiers für das Post- und Femmeldewesen veröffentlicht
werden, muß bei schon ernchleten und in Betrieb genommenen
Ton- und Femseh-Rundfunkempfängem nachgekommen werden,
wenn durch den Belneb dieser Rundfunkempfänger andere elek
trische Anlagen gestört werden
Serienmäßig hergestellte Ton- und Femseh-Rundfunkempfänger
müssen zum Nach-weis dafür, daß sie denTechnischen Vorschriften

Bestimmungen über private Drahtfemmeldeanlagen mit Drahlfem­meldeanlagen verbunden werden
Auf demselben Grundstück oder innerhalb eines Fahrzeuges dürfen
Ton- und Femseh-Rundfunkempfänger mit anderen Geräten oder

sonstigen Gegenständen (zD Plattenspieler. Magnetaufzeich­nungs* und 'Wedergabegeräten, Antennen) verbunden werden,
sofern diese Geräte von der Deutschen Bundespost genehmigt sind
oder keiner Genehmigung bedürfen
Die räumliche Kombination von Funkanlagen mit Ton- oder Femseh­Rundfunkempfängem ist nur dann zulässig, wenn die betreffenden
Funkantager^ le für sich genehmigt sind

3. MitTon- und Femseh-Rundfunkempfängem dürfen aufgrund dieser
Genehmigung nur Sendungen des Rundfunks empfangen werden,
also übertragene Tonsignale (Musik, Sprache) und Femsehsignale
(nur Bildinformationen). Andere Sendungen (z.B des Polizeifunks.
der öffentlichen beweglichen Landfunkdienste. Datenübertragun
gen) dürfen nicht aufgenommen werden; werden sie ledoch
unbeabsichtigt empfangen, so dürfen sie weder aufgezeichnet,
noch anderen mitgeteilt, noch für irgendwelche Zwecke ausgewer­tel werden. Das Vorhandensein solcher Sendungen darf auch nicht
anderen zur Kenntnis gebracht werden

4. Durch Ton- und Femseh-Rundfunkempfänger darf der Betrieb
anderer elektnscher Anlagen nicht gestört werden

5. Änderungen der Ton- und Femseh-Rundfunkempfänger, die die
zulässigen Frequenzabstimmbereiche der Empfänger eniveitem,
gehen über den Umfang dieser Genehmigung hinaus und bedürfen
vor ihrer Ausführung einer besonderen Genehmigung der Deut
schen Bundespost.
Wer aufgrund dieser Genehmigung einen Ton- und Femseh-Rund
funkempfänger betreibt, hat bei einer Änderung der kennzeichnen
den Merkmale von Ton- oder Femseh-Rundfunksendem (insbeson
dere bei Änderung des Sendeverfahrens oder bei Frequenzwech
sel) die ggf. notwendig werdenden Änderungen an dem Rundfunk
empfänger auf seine Kosten vornehmen zu lassen.

6. Die Deutsche Bundespost ist berechtigt. Rundfunkempfänger und
mit ihnen verbundene Geräte darauf zu prüfen, ob die Auflagen der
Genehmigung und die Technischen Vorschriften emgehailen wer
den.
Den Beauftragten der Deutschen Bundespost ist das Betreten der
Grundstücke oder Räume, in denen sich Ton- oder Femseh-Rund­funkempfänger befinden, zu den verkehrsublichen Zeiten zu
gestatten. Befinden sich die Rundfunkempfänger oder mit ihnen
verbundene Geräte nicht im Verfügungsbereich desjenigen, der die
Empfänger betreibt, so hat er den Beauftragten der Deutschen
Bundespost Zutntt zu diesen Teilen zu ermöglichen.

Bei Funkstörungen, die nicht durch Mängel der Rundfunkempfänger
oderder mit ihnen verbundenen Geräte vemrsacht werden, können die
Funkmeßdienste der Deutschen Bundespost zur Feststellung der
Störung in Anspruch genommen werden.

1. Diese Genehmigung kann allgemein oder durch die örtlich zustän
dige Oberpostdirektion einem einzelnen Betreiber gegenüber für
einen bestimmten Rundfunkempfänger widerrufen werden. Ein
Widerruf ist insbesondere zulässig, wenn die unter Abschmtt n
aufgefuhrten Auflagen nicht erfüllt werden
Anstatt die Genehmigung zu widerrufen, kann die Deutsche
Bundespost anordnen, daß bei einem Verstoß gegen eine Auflage
ein Ton- und Femseh-Rundfunkempfänger außer Betrieb zu setzen
ist und erst bei Einhaltung der Auflagen wieder betrieben werden
darf.
Die Auflagen dieser Genehmigung können lederzeit ergänzt oder
geändert werden.

2. Diese Genehmigung ersetzt die Allgemeine Ton- und Femseh­Rundfunkgenehmigung vom 11 Dezember 1970, sie gilt ab 1 Juli

1979.
