Batteries
• Press BATTERY RELEASE to release the battery
holder and insert as indicated four (preferably
Alkaline) batteries, type R6, UM3 or AA-cells, see
fig. 2. You may also use rechargeable Nickel-Cad
mium batteries.
• Remove the batteries if exhausted or if they are not
te be used again for a long period.
The battery supply is switched off when the 7 V DC
socket is in use. When changing over to battery
supply, pull out the plug from the 7 V DC socket.
7 V DC socket
• At home, use the supplied mains adapter
EM 1030, delivering 7 V/350 mA Direct Current. Use
only the supplied mams adapter, since serious
damage may occur if another adapter is used.
• Check that the mains voltage of the mains adapter
corresponds to your local mains supply. If not,
consult your dealer or sen/ice organisation, if the
mains adapter is equipped with a voltage selector,
set this selector to the local mains voltage,
• Connect the mains adapter to the 7 V DC socket
and the wall socket. Remove the mains adapter from
the wall socket when the set is not in use.
CONNECTIONS
Headphone socket ¡¡^/LINE OUT
• For stereo headphones (or mini loudspeakers)
with 3.5 mm plug.
• For CD-reproduction through your stereo system
(amplifier, receiver, recorder, etc.). Use the supplied
signal lead to connect the (Hl/LINE OUT socket to the
input sockets REC IN. TAPE IN, LINE IN. AUX or CD
IN of the other set.
The output signal is adjusted with the VOLUME
control and the DBB BASS button.
REMOTE socket
• For the supplied remote controi with the functions
PLAY >, PAUSE 00, STOP and KM SEARCH W.
This product complies with the radio interference
requirements of the European Community.
The type plate is located on the base of the set.
GENERAL MAINTENANCE
-The mechanism of the CD-player is fitted with
seif-lubricating bearings and therefore must not be
oiied or greased.
- Rngerprints, dust and dirt on the apparatus can be
removed using a soft, clean and slightly damp
leather cloth. Do not use any cleaning agents which
contain abrasives or solvents such as benzine
thinner, alcohol, refined petrol or ammonia, since
they may affect and harm the cabinet.
- Do not expose the set. batteries or discs to rain or
moisture, or, for any great length of time, to excessive
heat from heating equipment or direct sunshine, e.g.
in cars parked in the sun.

possible then. Do not clean the lens, but let the set
acclimatize for a while.
- Always pick up the disc by the edge and put it back
in its box immediately after use.
- To remove dirt from a disc, first breathe on the disc
and wipe it off in a straight line from centre to edge
(fig. 5) using a soft, lint-free cloth. The use of cleaning
agents may harm the disc.
CLOCK
In position CD or CD HOLD, the radio display shows
the time. In position RADIO, you can select time
indication by pressing TIME SET once.
Time setting
• Rrst set the FUNCTION selector to CD or CD HOLD
(not to RADIO).
• Keep the TIME SET button pressed.
• Keep the TIME SET UP or DOWN button pressed
and release it when approaching the actual time.
• Then press UP or DOWN briefly each time; the time
is changed minute-by-minute until you finally reach
the correct time.
• The clock starts running when releasing the TIME
SET button.

RADIO RECEPTIONHOLD<
• Set the FUNCTION selector to RADIO.
• Connect headphones to the socket Ci- The
headphone lead will function as FM-aerial.
• Adjust the sound with the VOLUME control and the
DBB BASS button.
• To unlock the radio buttons, if necessary, remove
the HOLD-symbol from the display by pressing
HOLD once.
• Select the wave band using the BAND button; FM
or MW appears.
• Tune automatically, manually or by means of the
PRESET-buttons UP/DOWN to a radio station.
When carrying the set with you, press the HOLD
button; On. appears on the display. The radio buttons
are then locked and radio reception is not interrupted
when a button is accidentally touched.
To defeat the HOLD-function, press HOLD again;
disappears.
PREFERRED TRANSMITTERS - PRESET
You can store the frequencies of up to 18 transmitters
in the memory, 9 for each wave range.
• Select the wave band using the BAND button.
•
Automatic tuning
• Keep the TUNING UP or DOWN button pressed
until the displayed frequency keeps on changing;
then release the button. The receiver stops when
finding a strong transmitter.
• If the transmitter found is not the desired one,
simply repeat this operation.
Manual tuning
Manual tuning is useful when you already know the
frequency of the desired transmitter (e.g. from your
programme guide).
• Keep the TUNING UP or DOWN button pressed.
• When approaching the required frequency, re
lease this button and press the opposite TUNING
button briefly; the displayed frequency stops.
• Then press TUNING UP or DOWN briefly each time.
In this way the frequency is changed step-by-step
until finally the right frequency has been reached.
• When the word STEREO appears, you are receiv
ing a FM-stereo transmitter. A disturbing noise, due
to a weak FM-stereo signal, can be suppressed by
pressing the STEREO button once. The word STE
REO will disappear and you will hear the FM
programme in mono.
• The radio returns to STEREO when pressing
STEREO once or when selecting another transmitter.
• To switch off the radio, place the FUNCTION
selector to CD or CD HOLD.
Manual storing
• Using TUNING UP/DOWN. tune either automati
cally or manually to the frequency to be stored.
• To store the frequency shown, keep MEMORY
pressed (PRESET flashes) and select at the same
time the desired PRESET location using the PRESET
UP/DOWN buttons. When releasing MEMORY, the
frequency is stored.
Automatic storing - AUTOSTORE
• Press AUTOSTORE. Now. the radio will fully
automatically search for the 9 strongest transmitters
and store these under the 9 PRESET locations.
• A stored frequency is only erased from the
memory by storing another frequency in its place.
• If the power supply is interrupted, the contents of
the memory will be kept for 24 hours.
Tuning to a preselected transmitter
• Select the wave band using the BAND button.
• Select the desired PRESET location using the
PRESET UP/DOWN buttons.
Scanning PRESET transmitters
• Press PRESET UP or DOWN longer than 1 second.
Now, the radio plays each PRESET transmitter for a
few seconds,
• The moment you hear a desired transmitter, press
briefly one of the PRESET buttons and scanning
stops.

COMPACT DISC
PLAYING A DISCSCAN
• Set the FUNCTION selector to CD.
• Connect headphones to the socket ¡¡7,-
• Open the disc cover.
• Insert the disc, printed side facing up (fig. 3) and
close the cover.
• Adjust the sound with the VOLUME control and the
DBB bass button,
• Playback will start by pressing PLAY >. As soon as
playback starts, the display shows the track num
ber 1 and the elapsed playing time of the first title.
When the second title is reached the track number 2
appears, etc.
• For brief interruptions, press PAUSE DO, The word
PAUSE appears. To continue playback, press PAU
SE 00 again.
• To stop playback, press STOP. Now the display
shows the total playing time and the number of tracks
present on the disc.
• The CD player also goes to position STOP;
- when the end of the disc is reached;
- by opening the disc cover;
- when moving the FUNCTION selector;
- it the batteries run down or if the power supply is
interrupted in another way.
• In the STOP position, the CD-player automatically
shuts down shortly after the last command, normally
after 30 seconds and if a program is stored after
3 minutes. 10 seconds before shut-down the display
starts flashing.
Remarks
- If the battery voltage is not sufficient any more for
playing a disc, the CD-player will not start.
- If PLAY> IS pressed and the CD-player shuts down
after some seconds, the CD-player cannot read the
disc. Possible causes are:
- you inserted the disc the wrong way: the label
should face up (fig, 3);
- the surface of the disc is badly scratched or
dirty, see 'Maintenance';
The SCAN function can be switched on from the
STOP and PLAY mode.
• Press SCAN; the word SCAN appears. Only the
first few seconds of each track are played.
• The moment you press PLAY>, the SCAN function
is defeated (the word SCAN disappears) and the disc
is played in the normal way from this track number.
• If you press 1Я>1 or KM, the SCAN function remains
operative and the beginning of the next W or
previous KM track is played for a few seconds.
• If the SCAN function is not defeated by pressing
PLAY> or STOP, the CD-player automatically returns
to STOP as soon as the end of the disc is reached.
MOPE (SHUFFLE and REPEAT)
By pressing the MODE button several times, all play
modes will successively appear on the display;
1 X REPEAT 1 to repeat the the actual title continu
2 X REPEAT ALL to repeat the disc continuously;
3 X SHUFFLE to play the disc in a random order;
4 X SHUFFLE REPEAT to repeat the disc continuous
5 X NORMAL (no display indication) to defeat the
In the MEMORY REPEAT ALL mode (if the word
MEMORY is also visible on the display) only the titles
stored in the memory will be played.
The mode MEMORY SHUFFLE is not possible. The
word MEMORY will disappear when the next title is
reached.
To defeat the REPEAT and SHUFFLE mode, choose
position NORMAL (no display Indication).

CD HOLD

selector to HOLD. The CD-buttons are then inoperati
ve (except for the REMOTE control buttons). Now,
playing a disc is not interrupted when a button is
accidentally touched.
For operating the normal CD-buttons, place the
FUNCTION switch to position CD again.

1. Press briefly (less than 1 second) during PLAY
or SCAN
W - go to the next track (title)
You can jump to the next title by pressing l>t>l once.
If you want to skip more than one track, press WH
more than once until the display shows the desired
track number.
W - go to the previous track (title)
If you want to repeat the running title from the
beginning, press M<J once.
If you want to repeat one of the previous titles,
press 1« more than once until the display shows
the required track number.
2. Keep pressed (longer than 1 second) for
search during PLAY
Keep the button CUE WH (search forward) or
REVIEW M<3 (search backward) pressed. The disc
is played partly and at high speed, however, the
sound is still recognizable. Release the button as
soon as you recognize the required passage; the
disc will be played in the normal way from this
passage.
If the button is pressed longer than 10 seconds,
the search speed increases automatically.
3. When programming: press briefly (less than
1 second)
When programming - in position STOP with a disc
inserted - you can select the desired track
numbers using KM and tW.
PROGRAMMING TRACK NUMBERS
You may select a number of tracks and store these
in the memory in the desired sequence. When
playing, you will only hear the stored titles in the
selected sequence. At most, 20 tracks can be stored
in the memory. You may store each track more than
once.
Manual selecting
• Press PLAY > and after that STOP.
• Select the desired track using the buttons KM and
»! until the display shows the required track number.
• Store this track by pressing STORE.
• Select and store in this way all desired titles.
Storing during SCAN
• Press SCAN to play the first few seconds of each
track.
• Press STORE as soon as you recognize a desired
title.
Storing during PLAY
• During normal PLAY you may store the running title
by pressing STORE.
-After pressing STORE the character 'P' (PRO
GRAM) appears, indicating that the track has been
stored.
- Store all desired titles in the required sequence.
You may store each track more than once.
-At most, 20tracks can be stored in the memory.
When the memory is full, the character 'F (FULL)
appears.
-When pressing STORE longer than 1 second, the
display will show in sequence all stored track
numbers.
-You can simply erase the whole memory by
pressing STOP for a second time: the character ’C’
for CLEAR appears now.
The contents of the memory are also erased;
- if the set shuts down automatically (3 minutes alter
STOP);
- if the batteries get exhausted or if the power supply
is interrupted in another way.
