POWER SUPPLY

The clock radio is suitable for connection to a 220 V, 50 Hz power supply (for Great Britain 240 V. 50 Hz). As soon as the mains plug is put into the wall socket, the numbers on the display will start to flash. This means that you must set the correct time.
To disconnect the set from the mains completely, withdraw the mains plug from the wall socket.
RADIO
You can use this clock radio solely as a radio.

radio off To switch off the radio, set the mode selector © to OFF.

• Make sure the alarm is off (OFF= ji.).
• Set the mode selector © to RADIO. The radio is on.
• Select the waveband using the BANDS switch @l
• Locate the required transmitter using the TUNING dial
• Set the volume using the VOLUME control ©.
For FM reception there is an aerial wire at the rear of the clock radio. This wire must be extended and if necessary adjusted slightly in order to obtain good reception.
The AM aerial is built into the clock radio. To obtain optimum reception you may
have to adjust the positioning of the clock radio slightly.
• You can connect a pair of stereo or mono headphones with 3.5 mm plug to the

• Set the correct time using the HOUR and MINUTE buttons @.
• Release the TIME SET button.

ALARM TIME
ALARM ON
ALARM OFF You can switch off the alarm in 3 ways:
repeat alarm 1. Switching off the alarm for 9 minutes
24 hours 2. Switching off the alarm for 24 hours
The alarm time is the time at which you wish to be woken.
• Keep the ALARM SET button @ pressed. The display now shows the alarm time.
• Set the required alarm time using the HOUR and MINUTE buttons ©.
• Release the ALARM SET button. The display again shows the correct time.
You can check the alarm time by pressing the ALARM SET button ©. The clock radio can wake you in 3 ways:

• Make sure the volume of the radio is loud enough to wake you.
• Set the mode selector © to RADIO.
• Press the ALARM ON/OFF button © (ON = -.). The alarm indicator on the display © comes on.
• At the set alarm time you will be woken by the radio.
• Set the mode selector © to BUZZER.
• Press the ALARM ON/OFF button ® (ON= -.). The alarm indicator on the display © comes on.
• At the set alarm time you will be woken by the buzzer.
3. By cassette
• Make sure the volume is loud enough to wake you.
• Set the mode selector © to TAPE.
• Press the ALARM ON/OFF button © (ON= -.). The alarm indicator on the display © comes on.
• Place a prerecorded cassette in the cassette holder and press the ► PLAY button.
• At the set alarm time you will be woken by the cassette player.
• Atthe end of the cassette or if the ► PLAY button is not pressed, the BUZZER will automatically take over.
• Press the REPEAT ALARM button ©. With this button you temporarily switch off the alarm. After nine minutes the alarm (radio, buzzer or cassette) will sound again. If you again press the REPEAT ALARM button, the same will happen again. If the REPEAT ALARM button © is not pressed again, the alarm will switch itself off after 1 hour and 59 minutes. The following day the alarm signal will sound again at the set alarm time.
• Press the AL. OFF button ©. The alarm is now switched off for 24 hours and will sound again the next day at the same time.
• Set the ALARM ON/OFF button © to OFF jl. On the display the alarm indicator will disappear and the alarm is now switched off. If you wish to be woken the following day again, you must press the ALARM ON/OFF button © (ON = .-.) before going to sleep.

CASSETTE
PLAYBACK The set can be used as a cassette player.
RECORDING

microphone You can leave a message on the cassette using the built-in microphone:
with timer You can make an unattended recording by using the alarm as a timer:
• Make sure the alarm is off (OFF= .m.).
• Set the mode selector Q to TAPE.
• Press ■ STOP.EJECT to open the cassette holder and insert a prerecorded cassette.
• Press ► PLAY to start playback.
• Adjust the volume with the VOLUME control @i
• Press ^ F.FWD for fast forward winding and REWIND for fast rewinding. To stop fast winding, press ■ STOP.EJECT.
• You can interrupt playback temporarily by pressing II PAUSE. In order to continue playback, press II PAUSE again.
• Press ■ STOP.EJECT to stop playback.
At the end of the cassette the player will automatically stop. You can use the set to record from the radio or from the built-in microphone (e.g.
a message). Using the alarm you can also make a unattended recording. If you wish to record from the radio:
• Setthe mode selector©to RADIO and make sure the alarm is off (OFF = m.).
• Tune to the desired radio station and adjust the volume.
• Open the cassette holder and insert a blank cassette. '
• Press • RECORD to start recording.
• You can interrupt the recording by pressing the II PAUSE button. Press again to continue recording.
• Press ■ STOP.EJECT to stop recording.
• Setthe mode selector©to TAPE and make sure the alarm is off (OFF= jt).
• Open the cassette holder and insert a blank cassette.
• Press • RECORD to start recording. You can now leave a message. The MESSAGE indicator (g) comes on.
• You can interruptthe recording by pressing the II PAUSE button. Press again to continue recording.
• Press ■ STOP.EJECT to stop recording.
• The MESSAGE indicator ® remains lit to indicate that there is a message waiting. If there is no need for the indicator to remain iit, or if the message has been played, you can switch off the MESSAGE indicator by pressing the RESET button ®.
• Set the mode selector © to RADIO if you want to record from the radio or to TAPE if you want to record through the microphone.
• Set the alarm to the hour you want to start recording by using the time set buttons @.
• Open the cassette holder and insert a blank cassette.
• Press the ALARM ON/OFF button © (ON =The alarm indicator on the display @ comes on.
• Press • RECORD. The set will now start recording at the set alarm time. Do not forget that the recording cannot be longer than the time available on the cassette.

SLUMBER
The clock radio has a built-in slumber function. This function enabies you to listen to the radio or a cassette or to continue recording before you fail asleep. You will not have to switch off the set yourself. This will take place automatically.

59 minutes If you wish to slumber for 59 minutes, proceed as follows:
shorter If you wish to slumber for less than 59 minutes, proceed as follows;
longer If you wish to slumber for more than 59 minutes (the maximum is 1 hour and 59
slumber off You can switch off the set before the slumber time has elapsed:
The time you listen to the radio before you fall asleep is called slumber time. The
normal slumber time is 59 minutes.
• Set the mode selector © to either RADIO (for radio reception or recording) or TAPE (for cassette playback).
• Press the SLUMBER button © only. The display will show that you have a slumber time of 59 minutes.
• Set the mode selector ©to either RADIO (for radio reception or recording) or TAPE (for cassette playback).
• Hold down the SLUMBER button © and the MINUTE button ©. The display now starts to count down from 59 to 00 minutes. As soon as the required slumber time is reached, release both buttons.
• Should you accidentally press HOUR © instead of MINUTE ©, the display will indicate 1.59 hours. Press the SLUMBER button © again to return to 59 minutes.

POWER FAILURE
flashing As soon as the power supply returns, the numbers on the display will start to flash.
As soon as a power failure occurs, the complete set will be switched off.
This indicates that you must set the correct time on the clock.
You can insert a 9 volt battery (6F22) in the set. Should there be a power failure,
01 the clock will continue to function. You will not see this, however, because the
battery does not illuminate the clock display. As soon as the power is switched on again, the display will indicate the correct time. For the sake of clarity; Alarm, radio, cassette recorder and display do network on battery.
• Before inserting the battery, insert the plug into the wall socket.
• Place the battery in the compartment on the underside of the set (see diagram).
recommendation Replace the battery once a year, it is not possible to say precisely how long the

battery will last. The service life depends on how often and for how long the power
supply fails. This varies according to country and region.
— If you do not intend to use the set for a long time, it is better to remove the plug
from the wall socket, it is also advisable to remove the battery from the set. This will prevent any danger of leakage and the clock radio will not be damaged.
— Fingerprints, dust and dirt on the set should be removed using a clean and
damp soft cloth or chamois leather. When cleaning do not use any products
which contain abrasive agents or solvents (benzine, thinner, alcohol etc.).
These might affect the housing.
— Rain, damp and extreme heat may damage the set. For this reason it should
not be placed in direct sunlight or close to heating elements for any period of time.
— Clean the parts of the cassette recorder indicated in fig.3 after every 50 hours
of operation or, on average, once a month.
• Open the cassette holder by pressing ■ STOP.EJECT.
• Use a cotton bud slightly moistened with alcohol or a special head cleaning fluid.
• Press ► PLAY and clean the rubber pressure roller (d) (fig.3).
• Then press li PAUSE and clean the capstan ©, recording/playback head ® and erase head ®.
• After cleaning, press ■ STOP.EJECT.
Cleaning of the heads ® and @ can also be done by playing the cleaning cassette SBC 114 through once as an ordinary cassette.

BLUE = NEUTRAL. BROWN = LIVE. These colours may not correspond with the coiour markings identifying the terminals in your plug, so proceed as follows: Connect the Brown wire to the terminal marked L or coloured Red. Connect the Blue wire to the terminal marked N or coloured Black.
Do not connect either wire to the earth terminai in the piug which is marked by the letter E or by the safety earth symbol or which is coloured green or green and yellow. No connection is necessary to the earth terminal.
