El equipo de televisión tiene 4 botones que encontrará situados en la parte frontal o en la parte superior del mismo, dependiendo del modelo.

Con los botones VOLUME - + (- ”+) se ajusta el volumen del sonido.Los botones PROGRAM

- + (- P +) sirven para seleccionar el programa. Para acceder a los menús, pulse simultáneamente los botones ”- y ”+. A continuación use los botones PROGRAM - + para seleccionar qué desea ajustar y los botones - ”+ para realizar dicho ajuste. Para salir de los menús, pulse los botones ”- y ”+ simultáneamente.

Nota

: Cuando la función BLOQUEO INFANTIL está activada, los botones a los que hemos hecho referencia se encuentran deshabilitados (consulte el menú VARIOS en la página 16).

PROGRAMVOLUME

Ubicando el equipo de televisión

Coloque su TV sobre una superficie sólida y estable, asegurándose de dejar un espacio libre de al menos 5cm alrededor del aparato. Para evitar accidentes, no sitúe sobre el equipo fundas o cubiertas de tela, recipientes con líquido (jarrones) o fuentes de calor (lámparas).El equipo no debe entrar en contacto con el agua.

Conexiones

• Introduzca la clavija proveniente de la antena en la toma que encontrará en la parte trasera del equipo

• Introduzca el cable de red del equipo en una toma de corriente (220-240 V / 50 Hz).

Control remoto

Coloque las dos pilas de tipo R6 (suministradas con el equipo) asegurándose de respetar la polaridad indicada.

Las pilas suministradas con este aparato no contienen ni mercurio ni níquel cadmio. Si tiene acceso a un punto de reciclaje, por favor no tire en cualquier lugar sus pilas usadas (si tiene alguna duda consulte con su vendedor). Cuando reponga las pilas usadas use otras del mismo tipo.

Encendiendo el equipo

Para encender el equipo pulse el botón on/off. Aparecerá un indicador luminoso de color rojo y se encenderá la pantalla.Vaya directo al capítulo Encendido del equipo por primera vez, en la página 4. En el caso de que la televisión permaneciera inactiva pulse el botón P # del mando a distancia.

El indicador luminoso parpadeará cada vez que utilice el mando a distancia.

Los botones del mando a distancia

Información por pantalla

En el modo digital, pulse una vez para mostrar

por pantalla la ventana de información,dos

veces para obtener más información acerca

del programa y una tercera vez para hacer

desaparecer toda la información de la

pantalla. En el modo analógico, este botón

muestra / oculta la información del programa

(número,nombre, hora, modo de sonido).Si

desea que el número de programa analógico

aparezca de forma permanente en la pantalla,

mantenga pulsado el botón durante

5 segundos. El nivel del volumen y de los

ajustes de control inteligente se visualizarán

en la pantalla cada vez que se usen.

Modo de sonido

Para cambiar entre ESTEREO y MONO o elegir otros idiomas (Dual I, Dual II,...).

Cuando está seleccionado el modo de sonido MONO, el indicador se muestra en rojo.

Pone la TV en estado de standby. Para encenderla de nuevo pulse P

Estos 4 botones sirven para moverse por los menús o para acceder de forma directa a los formatos 16:9 (p 18).

Sonido envolvente

Activa / desactiva el efecto Virtual

Dolby Surround*.En estéreo,la calidad

de sonido que se obtiene es la de

Dolby Surround Pro Logic.En mono, se

simula un efecto espacial estéreo.

Fabricado bajo licencia de Dolby Laboratories. ”Dolby”

Programa anterior

Vuelve al programa que se estuviera viendo anteriormente.

Temporizador

Permite seleccionar un tiempo tras el cual el equipo se apaga automáticamente (entre 0 y 240 minutos).

Botones numéricos

Da acceso directo a los programas. Cuando el número de programa sea de 2 (3) dígitos, el segundo (tercer) dígito se debe introducir antes de que la rayita desaparezca.Durante unos segundos se mostrará por pantalla el número y el nombre (así como el modo de sonido, en modo analógico) del programa.

Selección de programa

Da acceso al programa anterior o al siguiente (o a la página en los menús digitales).

Activa el modo VCR o DVD del

mando a distancia (vea p.20).

¿Canales analógicos o digitales?

Para recibir los canales de TV, su televisor está equipado con dos sintonizadores. Uno es para los canales digitales y el otro para los canales analógicos. Utilice el botón

v de su mando a distancia para hacer que

la TV alterne entre el modo analógico y el modo digital.A continuación, emplee los botones

La primera vez que encienda su TV, aparecerá por pantalla un mensaje de enhorabuena en 12 idiomas (cada 5 segundos):

§ La búsqueda y almacenamiento de todos los programas, tanto analógicos como digitales, es automática. Una vez terminada la búsqueda, en el menú se indicará el total de servicios digitales y programas analógicos encontrados.

La ventana contiene información sobre el número de la presintonía,número del canal, duración del programa, horario de la transmisión, título del programa, y el tiempo que le resta al programa para su finalización (si así ha sido elegido en el menú de opciones).

MHP: Introducción a Interactividad

Este TV Digital soporta el nuevo estándar de interactividad digital denominado MHP (Multimedia Home Platform).Algunos canales de TV digital contendrán aplicaciones MHP como juegos, información adicional, votación, etc.,y otros no. Los párrafos siguientes explican cómo saber que hay aplicaciones MHP disponibles y cómo controlarlas.

En cada canal digital, usted dispone de varias aplicaciones junto con el canal digital (juegos, votación, aplicaciones interactivas...).

para seleccionar el canal digital de su elección.

é Si hay aplicaciones disponibles, durante unos

segundos aparece un icono en el extremo superior derecho de la pantalla:

“ En la mayoría de los casos, se iniciará

automáticamente una aplicación MHP. Este proceso puede tardar entre 5 segundos y varios minutos, dependiendo del tamaño de la aplicación.

‘ El contenido de la aplicación viene definido por

el proveedor de servicios. Deberá seguir las instrucciones en pantalla. Las teclas que normalmente se usan son las siguientes:

• las teclas 09

c y îÏÈ¬,

• la tecla

para seleccionar o activar,

• teclas de colores (roja,verde, amarilla, azul y blanca).

( Para detener la aplicación, usted puede:

• Seguir las instrucciones de la propia aplicación para detenerla.

aplicación e ir al Menú Aplicaciones. Seleccione la aplicación que desea detener con las teclas del cursor y oprima la tecla amarilla

STOP.

• Seleccionar otro canal usando las teclas @ P #.

El menú de aplicaciones digitales le permite controlar las aplicaciones incorporadas en el televisor o descargadas (MHP) a través de la emisora.

ventana en el centro de la pantalla.En la parte izquierda,encontrará iconos para las aplicaciones residentes incorporadas (Guía TV e Instalación). En la parte derecha, encontrará las aplicaciones MHP (si están disponibles en el canal seleccionado).

digitales como lo haría en un periódico o en una revista de televisión (consulte la página 11) y programar el televisor para grabar (p.12).

Aplicaciones MHP (en la parte derecha de la

ventana): estas aplicaciones (cuando están disponibles) son emitidas por diferentes canales digitales. Su contenido viene definido por el proveedor de servicios.

Si desea detener una aplicación MHP, seleccione la aplicación con ayuda del cursor y oprima la tecla de color correspondiente a “Detener”. La tecla roja

MOSTRAR sólo se usa en caso de que la aplicación

no se inicie automáticamente. La aplicación que se está ejecutando mostrará una animación del icono.

Cómo configurar el perfil de interactividad

Este menú le permite configurar el perfil de interactividad para aplicaciones MHP.

Algunas aplicaciones MHP le permiten responder en directo al programa que se está emitiendo en ese momento. En ese caso, puede conectar opcionalmente un módem externo al televisor (consulte la página 22). Este menú le permite configurar el módem externo.

Módems RS232 recomendados:

Philips recomienda sólo unos cuantos tipos de módem probados, sobre los cuales puede obtener información a través de:

- la dirección de Internet: www.philips.com/support

- el número de teléfono de atención de Philips

(consulte el folleto de garantía adjunto). Otros tipos de módem pueden no ser garantizados por Philips.

Introduzca con las teclas numéricas el número comunicado por su ISP.

contraseña de ISP.

Tipo de marcación: indique el sistema de su

teléfono,

tonos o pulsos.

Secuencia de inicialización del módem: Indica

una secuencia de inicialización compatible con Hayes tal como se menciona en el manual de su módem.

•

Prefijo de marcación: Si está conectado a una

centralita telefónica, deberá indicar el prefijo de marcación para llamadas al exterior.

•

Código para desactivar espera de llamada: si

desea desactivar la espera de llamada, use la secuencia indicada en el manual del módem.

•

¿Esperar tono de marcado?: dependiendo del

tipo de módem, deberá seleccionar

Tiempo de inactividad (minutos) antes de desconectar:

para evitar facturas telefónicas elevadas, puede ajustar el tiempo máximo de inactividad. Es aconsejable empezar por 3 minutos.

Atención:

Los datos de su propio ISP son valores predeterminados. Si la emisora proporciona un ISP diferente, Philips no puede garantizar el coste del cargo telefónico.

§ Si la calidad y la intensidad de la señal son pobres, aparecerá un mensaje en la parte inferior del menú indicándole que introduzca la frecuencia intermedia entre los límites inferior y superior. Si después de teclear dicha frecuencia la recepción sigue siendo pobre, puede probar a mejorar, renovar, ajustar o actualizar la antena. De cualquier forma, es recomendable que contacte con un servicio técnico especializado para que lo vea.

Normalmente es desde el modo standby desde donde el producto detectará si existe alguna actualización disponible. En caso de que exista, la próxima vez que encienda el televisor aparecerá una ventana en la parte inferior de la pantalla indicando que hay nuevo software disponible. Pulsando

se inicia la descarga del software. El menú de descarga de software dará una descripción del software junto con la fecha y la hora de la descarga. Es posible que esto actualice determinados menús, funciones y que añada nuevas características, pero no cambiará la forma general en que la TV funciona. Una vez aceptado,la descarga tendrá lugar en la fecha y hora establecidas.

Función EasyLink

Si el equipo está conectado (desde la toma EXT2) a un vídeo equipado con la función EasyLink, el idioma, país y los canales analógicos encontrados se transmiten automáticamente al grabador de video en el momento de la instalación. Durante la carga, se muestra un mensaje por la pantalla. Después de esto, la lista de canales analógicos del grabador de video es la misma que la del televisor. Debe comprobar primero en los menús que la función Easylink está activada:

Teletexto analógico

El teletexto es un sistema de información, difundido por la mayoría de los canales de TV analógicos. Además proporciona subtítulos para personas con dificultades auditivas.

Para entrar o salir del teletexto. Cuando se pulsa una vez, aparece el índice principal con una lista de elementos disponibles. Cada página corresponde a un número de tres cifras.Algunos programas digitales pueden incluir también teletexto analógico. Si este es el caso, es posible acceder a él pulsando el botón de teletexto durante 3 segundos.

Si el teletexto no está disponible, aparecerá el número 100 y la pantalla permanecerá en blanco (en este caso, salga del teletexto y elija otro canal).

Formatos 16:9

Es posible que las imágenes que reciba estén siendo transmitidas en formato 16:9 (pantalla ancha) o en formato 4:3 (pantalla convencional).Las imágenes en 4:3 a veces tienen una banda negra en la parte superior e inferior de la pantalla (formato buzón). Esta función le permite optimizar la visualización de la imagen por pantalla.

Cambio automático

Este televisor está también equipado con cambio automático el cual elegirá el formato de pantalla correcto,cuando las señales específicas que se necesitan estén siendo transmitidas con el programa.

Utilización de los diferentes formatos de pantalla

Pulse p para elegir entre los distintos modos:

4:3, ZOOM 14:9, ZOOM 16:9, ZOOM SUBTÍTULO, SUPER ZOOM y PANTALLA ANCHA.

Con los programas analógicos únicamente, puede acceder directamente a estas configuraciones con los botones È y ¬.

4:3 Modo

La imagen se reproduce en formato 4:3 y una banda negra se visualiza a ambos lados de la imagen. Con los programas analógicos únicamente, la imagen puede ampliarse progresivamente utilizando los botones

ZOOM 14:9

Se amplía la imagen a formato 14:9, una delgada línea negra permanecerá a ambos lados de la imagen. Con los programas analógicos los botones

ZOOM 16:9

ZOOM SUBTÍTULO

Este es el modo que se utiliza para visualizar imágenes 4:3 utilizando toda la superficie de la pantalla dejando los subtítulos visibles. En programas analógicos, utilice los botones

SUPERANCHO

Conexión de equipos periféricos

La televisión tiene 2 tomas externas situadas en la parte trasera del equipo (EXT1 y EXT2).

La toma EXT1 tiene entradas/salidas de audio y video y entradas RGB. La toma EXT2 tiene entradas/salidas de audio y video y entradas S-VHS.

Grabador de vídeo (sólo)

Lleve a cabo las conexiones que se muestran al lado. Para grabar programas digitales desde su TV, el VCR debe estar conectado a EXT2.

Si su video no tiene una toma de euroconector, la única conexión posible es por medio de un cable de antena. En consecuencia, deberá sintonizar la señal de test de su grabador de vídeo y asignarle el programa 0 (consulte memorizado manual, p.14). Para reproducir la imagen del grabador de vídeo, pulse

Conecte el decodificador a la segunda toma de euroconector del grabador de vídeo.Así ya podrá grabar transmisiones codificadas.

Lleve a cabo las conexiones que se muestran al lado. Para optimizar la calidad de la imagen, conecte el equipo que genera las señales RGB (decodificador digital, juegos, etc.) a EXT1, y el equipo que produce señales S-VHS (grabadores S-VHS y Hi-8, algunos DVD ) a EXT2 y cualquier otro equipo a EXT1 o EXT2 indistintamente.

Lleve a cabo las conexiones que se muestran al lado. Utilizando el botón

Selector de modo VCR / DVD

Para conectarlo a un sistema de alta fidelidad, utilice un cable de conexión de audio y conecte las salidas “L” y “R” del equipo de TV con las entradas “AUDIO IN” “L” y “R” de su amplificador hi-fi. Utilice un cable de audio digital y conecte la salida “SPDPIF” a una entrada “DIGITAL IN” en el amplificador (amplificador con entrada digital coaxial).

Hay disponible una interfaz común para conectar un CAM (módulo de acceso condicional) y una tarjeta inteligente. Por favor, consulte a su proveedor de servicios para obtener más información sobre estos módulos. Usted también puede conectar un módem RS232 externo para aplicaciones MHP. Consejos

Recepción pobre (en modo analógico)

La proximidad con montañas o edificios altos puede ser la responsable de imágenes fantasma, ecos o sombras. En este caso trate de ajustar manualmente la imagen: vea "sintonizado fino" (p.12) o cambie la orientación de la antena exterior. ¿Le permite su antena recibir emisiones en este rango de frecuencias (banda UHF o VHF)? En el caso de una mala recepción (imagen con niebla) ponga en ON la opción NR en el menú analógico IMAGEN (p.13).

Mala imagen (en modo digital)

Si la imagen se congela mucho,o existe efecto bloque, hay un problema de recepción pobre. Por favor, compruébelo con el menú intensidad de señal (vea p.6). Dependiendo de la intensidad de las señales digitales terrestres en su zona,las antenas estándar empleadas para transmisiones digitales proporcionarán,en la mayoría de los casos,una recepción satisfactoria de señales digitales. Si no fuera este el caso, un profesional deberá instalar una antena de haz estrecho de buena calidad fuera del inmueble para capturar la mayor intensidad de señal digital posible.

Sin imagen

¿Ha conectado la toma de la antena correctamente? ¿Ha elegido el sistema adecuado? (p.12). En muchas ocasiones, cables euroconectores o tomas de antena mal conectados son la causa de problemas en la imagen o el sonido (algunas veces,los conectores pueden medio soltarse si se mueve o gira el equipo). Compruebe todas las conexiones.

Equipo periférico entrega imagen en blanco y negro

No ha elegido la toma correcta con el botón n:

S-VHS2 (S-VHS3) en vez de EXT2 (EXT3). Para reproducir un vídeo cassette, compruebe que ha sido grabado bajo el mismo estándar (PAL, SECAM, NTSC) que puede ser reproducido por el grabador de vídeo.

Sin sonido (en modo analógico)

Si en determinados canales usted recibe imagen pero no sonido,significa que no tiene asignado el sistema de TV correcto.Modifique la configuración

SISTEMA (p. 9).

El mando a distancia ya no funciona

Compruebe que el selector de modo en el lado del mando a distancia está asignado a TV. ¿La televisión no reacciona al mando a distancia? ¿El indicador en el equipo ya no parpadea cuando usted usa el mando a distancia? Cambie las pilas.

Standby

¿Cuando enciende el televisor, este permanece en estado de standby y se muestra el indicador

LOCKED cuando pulsa los botones de su equipo de

TV? La función

BLOQ. INFANTIL está activada (p.14).

Si el equipo no recibe señal durante 15 minutos, pasará automáticamente al estado standby. Para ahorrar energía, su equipo está compuesto por componentes que tienen un consumo de energía muy bajo en estado de standby (menos de 3 W).

¿Ya no responde la aplicación MHP?

Si ha probado todas las opciones normales para detener una aplicación MHP que no está funcionando bien (consulte la página 5), apague su TV y vuelva a encenderlo con el interruptor de encendido.

¿No ha resuelto el problema?

Si su TV se avería, no trate de repararla usted mismo: contacte con su servicio de atención post venta.

Glosario

CAM y tarjeta inteligente:

Es posible conectar un CAM (módulo de acceso condicional) y una tarjeta inteligente a la televisión. Esta unidad le permite acceder a canales digitales de pago o servicios especiales del proveedor.

Receptor digital:

La televisión está equipada con un sintonizador digital integrado que le permite recibir transmisiones digitales con una antena terrestre.El sintonizador es capaz de recibir Emisión de Vídeo Digital bajo MPEG2, hasta Main profile @ Main level.

EasyLink:

Conexión digital entre el equipo y el grabador de vídeo que permite la transmisión directa de determinada información como puede ser la configuración de los canales.

MHP: (Multimedia Home Platform) es el nuevo

estándar de interactividad digital para la TV digital.Algunos canales de TV digital contienen

aplicaciones MHP como juegos, información adicional, votación, etc.

Sistema:

Los programas analógicos no se emiten de la misma forma en todos los países. Existen diferentes estándares:BG, DK, I,y L L’.El ajuste SYSTEM (p.9) se utiliza para elegir estos estándares. No se deba confundir esto con la codificación de color PAL o SECAM. En la mayoría de los países europeos se utiliza PAL, mientras que SECAM se utiliza en Francia, Rusia, y la mayoría de los países africanos.Estados Unidos y Japón utilizan un sistema distinto llamado NTSC. Las entradas EXT1 y EXT2 se utilizan para leer grabaciones codificadas en NTSC.

16:9:

Hace referencia a la relación entre el ancho y el alto de la pantalla. Los televisores de pantalla ancha tienen una relación de 16/9, la relación en los equipos de TV con pantalla convencional es 4/3.

The television set has 4 keys which are located on the front or the top of the set depending on the model.

The VOLUME - + (-

” +) keys are used to

adjust sound levels. The PROGRAM - + (- P +) keys are used to select the required programmes. To access the menus, simultaneously hold down the

” - and ” + keys.The

PROGRAM - + keys may then be used to select an adjustment and the -

” + keys to

make that adjustment. To exit from the menus, hold down the 2

” - and ” + keys.

Note: when the CHILD LOCK function is activated, these keys are unavailable (refer to FEATURES menu on page 16).

PROGRAMVOLUME

Positioning the television set

Place your TV on a solid, stable surface,leaving a space of at least 5 cm around the appliance.

To avoid accidents, do not put anything on the set such as a cloth or cover, a container full of liquid (vase) or a heat source (lamp).The set must not be exposed to water.

Connections

• Insert the aerial plug into the : socket at

the rear of the set.

• Insert the mains plug into a wall socket (220-

240 V / 50 Hz).

Remote control

Insert the two R6-type batteries (supplied) making sure that they are the right way round.

The batteries supplied with this appliance do not contain mercury or nickel cadmium.If you have access to a recycling facility,please use this facility (if in doubt, consult your dealer).When the batteries are replaced, use the same type.

Switching on

To switch on the set, press the on/off key. A red indicator comes on and the screen lights up. Go straight to the chapter Switch on for the first time, on page 4. If the television remains in standby mode, press P

# on the remote control.

The indicator will flashe when you use the remote control.

Screen information

In digital mode, press onece to display

the information banner, a 2ndtime to get

more information on the programme

and a 3rd time to remove it (see p. 4).

In analogue mode, this displays /

To activate / deactivate the Virtual

Dolby Surround * effect.In stereo,you

can obtain Dolby Surround

Pro Logic sound quality. In mono, a

stereo spatial effect is simulated.

To access the previously viewed programme.

Sleeptimer

To select the length of time before the set automatically switches to standby (from 0 to 240 minutes)

Numerical keys

For direct access to programmes. For a 2 (3) digit programme number, the 2nd(3rd)digit must be entered before the dash disappears. The number, the name (and the sound mode, in analogue mode) are displayed for a few seconds.

Programme selection

To access the next or previous programme (or page in digital menus).

Mode selector

To activate the remote control in

VCR or DVD mode (see p.20).

To receive TV channels, your television is equipped with 2 tuners. One is for digital channels, the other is for analogue channels. Use the

v key of the remote control to switch the TV between analogue

and digital mode.Then use the

The first time the TV set is switched on, a

congratulation message will appear on screen.

Press the u key on the remote control, the moment your prefered language is visible on the screen.The

The television then displays the current programme.The installation is now complete.

When you select a digital programme, an information banner is displayed for a few secondes at the top of the screen.

You can also use the

∂ key of the remote control

to display this banner.A second press displays more information about the programme (when available).

The banner contains information on the preset number, channel name, programme duration, transmission clock, programme title and the time remaining of the current programme (if set in the options menu).

MHP: introduction on Interactivity

This Digital TV supports the new digital interactivity standard called MHP (Multimedia Home Platform). Some digital TV channels will contain MHP applications like games, additional information,voting, etc, and others will not.The following paragraphs explain how to ascertain whether MHP applications are available and how to control them.

On each digital channel, you can have several applications together with the digital channel (games, voting, interactive applications, ...).

keys to select the digital channel of your choice.

If MHP applications are available,an icon will appear at the top right of the screen for a few seconds:

“ In most cases,an MHP application will be

started automatically.This process can take

from 5 seconds to several minutes depending on the size of the application.

‘ The content of the application is defined by the

service provider and you will have to follow the on screen instructions.The keys which are generaly used within apllications are:

The digital applications menu enables you to control the applications built-into the set or those downloaded (MHP) via the broadcaster.

small window in the middle of the screen. On the left, you will find icons for the built in (resident) applications (TV Guide and Setup). On the right, you will find the MHP applications that are available on the selected channel.

Setting up the interactivity profile

This menu allows you to set up the interactivity profile for MHP applications.

Some MHP applications will require you to make live responses to the program that is currently being broadcast.For these cases, you can connect an external modem to the tv (see page 22). This menu allows you to set up the external modem connection.

Dial type: indicate your telephone system, tone or pulse.

Modem initialisation string: indicate a Hayes

compatible initialization string as mentioned in the manual of your modem.Use the

Dial-out prefix: if you are connected to a

switchboard, you have to indicate the dialout prefix.

•

Code to disable call-waiting: if you want to

disable call-waiting, use the string indicated in the modem’s manual.

•

Wait for a dial tone ?: depending on the

modem type, you need to select

Yes or No.

•

Idle time (minutes) before disconnect:to

prevent high telephone bills,you can adjust the maximum idle time. It is advise to start with 3 minutes.

Warning: your own ISP data are default values. If the broadcaster provides a different ISP, Philips can not guarantee what telephone cost will be charged.

Recording function

This feature enables you to program a digital recording and control the VCR (if it has an EasyLink feature and is connected to EXT2). If your video recorder is not equipped with Easylink, the TV will provide a digital channel to be recorded.You will still need to program your video recorder.

Important:The video recorder must be connected to EXT2. Please note that it is NOT possible to record

one digital channel and watch another digital channel at the same time.You can however record a digital channel and watch an analogue channel on your TV, or vice versa. Philips recorders with only the TV link feature do not support easy recording : you wil still have to program your VCR.

Automatic tuning of analogue programmes

Sorting analogue programmes

This menu allows you to automatically search for all the analogue programmes available in your region.

SORT menu to renumber them.

Some transmitters or cable networks broadcast their own sort parameters (region, language,etc.). Where this is the case, make your choice using the

Teletext is an information system, broadcast by most of analogue TV channels. It also provides subtitles for people with hearing difficulties.

To call up or exit from teletext.When first pressed, the main index page appears with a list of the items available. Each page has a corresponding 3-figure number. If no teletext is available, 100 will appear and the screen will remain blank (in this case, exit from teletext and choose another channel).

16:9 Formats

The pictures you receive may be transmitted in 16:9 format (wide screen) or 4:3 format (conventional screen).4:3 pictures sometimes have a black band at the top and bottom of the screen (letterbox format).This function allows you to optimise the picture display on screen.

Automatic switching

This TV set is also equipped with automatic switching which will select the correct-screen format, provided the specific signals are transmitted with the programmes.

Using the different screen formats

Press the p to select the different modes:

4:3, ZOOM 14:9,ZOOM 16:9, SUBTITLE ZOOM, SUPER ZOOM and WIDE SCREEN.

With analogue programs only, you can access directly these settings with the È and ¬ key.

4:3 Mode

The picture is reproduced in 4:3 format and a black band is displayed on either side of the picture.With analogue programs only, the picture may be progressively enlarged using the

îÏ keys.

ZOOM 14:9

The picture is enlarged to 14:9 format, a thin black band remains on both sides of the picture.With analogue programs, the

îÏ keys

allow you to compress vertically the image to view the top or the bottom of the picture (subtitles).

ZOOM 16:9

The picture is enlarged to 16:9 format.This mode is recommended when displaying pictures which have black bands at the top and bottom (letterbox format).With analogue programs, use the

îÏ

keys if you wish to display the top or the bottom of the picture.

SUBTITLE ZOOM

This mode is used to display 4:3 pictures using the full surface of the screen leaving the sub-titles visible.With analogue programs, use the

îÏ keys to increase or decrease the section at the bottom of

the picture.

SUPERWIDE

This mode is used to display 4:3 pictures using the full surface of the screen by enlarging the sides of the picture.With analogue programs, the

îÏ keys allow you to move the image up or down.

WIDE SCREEN

This mode restores the correct proportions of pictures transmitted in 16:9 using full screen display.

Note:

If you display a 4:3 picture in thid mode, it will be enlarged horizontally.

Connecting peripheral equipment

The television has 2 external sockets situated at the back of the set (EXT1 and EXT2).

The EXT1 socket has audio and video inputs/outputs and RGB inputs. The EXT2 socket has audio and video inputs/outputs and S-VHS inputs.

Video recorder (only)

Carry out the connections featured opposite.To record digital programmes from your TV, the VCR must be connected to EXT2.

If your video recorder does not have a euroconnector socket, the only connection possible is via the aerial cable.You will therefore need to tune in your video recorder's test signal and assign it programme number 0 (refer to manual store, p. 14). To reproduce the video recorder picture, press 0. In this case it will not be possible to record digital channels.

Video recorder with decoder

Connect the decoder to the second euroconnector socket of the video recorder.You will then be able to record scrambled transmissions.

Video recorder

Satellite receiver, decoder, DVD,games, etc.

Carry out the connections featured opposite. To optimise picture quality, connect the equipment which produces the RGB signals (digital decoder, games,etc.) to EXT1, and the equipment which produces the S-VHS signals (S-VHS and Hi-8 video recorders, certain DVD drives) to EXT2 and all other equipment to either EXT1 or EXT2.

Carry out the connections featured opposite. Using the

n key, select EXT3 for a VHS or 8mm

camcorder and S-VHS3 for an S-VHS or Hi-8 camcorder.

For a mono set, connect the sound signal to the AUDIO L (or AUDIO R) input.The sound automatically comes out of the left and right speakers of the TV .

Headphones

The

@”# keys allow you to adjust the volume on

the headphones and on the set. Press

m if you want to cut

off the sound on the set.

The headphones must have an impedance of between 32 and 600 ohms.

VCR / DVD mode selector

To connect to a hi-fi system, use an audio connection cable and connect the “L” and “R” outputs on the TV set to the “AUDIO IN” “L” and “R” input on your hi-fi amplifier. Use a digital audio connecting cable and connect the television’s “SPDIF” output to a “DIGITAL IN” input on the amplifier (amplifier with coaxial digital input).

A common interface is available to connect a CAM (conditional access module) and a smartcard. Please contact your service provider to get more information about these modules. You can also connect an external RS232 modem for MHP applications. Please contact your dealer to get more information.

: the television should always be switched off before any module is inserted in the common interface slot.To setup the modem, see page 6.

Tips

Poor reception (in analogue mode)

The proximity of mountains or high buildings may be responsible for ghost pictures, echoing or shadows. In this case, try manually adjusting your picture:see "fine tuning" (p.12) or modify the orientation of the outside aerial. Does your antenna enable you to receive broadcasts in this frequency range (UHF or VHF band)? In the event of difficult reception (snowy picture) switch the

NR on the PICTURE

analogue menu to ON.(p. 13).

Bad picture (in digital mode)

If the picture freezes a lot,or in cases of block effect, there is a problem of poor reception. Please check with the signal strength menu (see p.6). Depending on the strength of digital terrestrial signals available in your area, standard aerials used for analogue transmissions will in most cases provide satisfactory reception of digital signals. If it is not the case, a good quality narrow beam antenna should be professionally installed outside the property and aligned to capture the maximum digital signal strength.

No picture

Have you connected the aerial socket properly? Have you chosen the right system? (p. 12). Poorly connected euroconnector cables or aerial sockets are often the cause of picture or sound problems (sometimes the connectors can become half disconnected if the TV set is moved or turned). Check all connections.

Peripheral equipment gives a black & white picture

You have not selected the right socket with the

key: S-VHS2 (S-VHS3) instead of EXT2 (EXT3).To play a video cassette,check that it has been recorded under the same standard (PAL, SECAM, NTSC) which can be replayed by the video recorder.

No sound (in analogue mode)

If on certain channels you receive a picture but no sound, this means that you do not have the correct TV system. Modify the

SYSTEM setting (p. 9).

The remote control no longer works.

Check that the mode selector on the side of the remote control is set to TV. The TV set does not react to the remote control; the indicator on the set no longer flashes when you use the remote control? Replace the batteries.

Standby

When you switch the TV set on it remains in standby mode and the indication

LOCKED is

displayed when you use the keys on the TV set? The CHILD LOCK function is switched on (p. 14). If the set receives no signal for 15 mins,it automatically goes into standby mode.

We adwise to switch off the TV overnight

instead of leaving it on standby.You save energy.

MHP application does not respond anymore ?

If you have tried all the normal ways to stop an MHP application that is not working correctly (see p. 5) then switch your TV off and on again with the power switch.

Glossary

CAM and Smart Card :

A CAM (conditional access module) and a smart card can be connected to the television.This unit allows you to access subscription digital channels or special services from the provider.

Digital receiver :

The television is equiped with an integrated digital tuner which enables you to receive a digital transmission with a terrestrial antenna.The tuner is able to received Digital Video Broadcast compliant with MPEG-2,up to Main profile @ Main level.

EasyLink :

Digital link between the set and the video recorder which allows a direct transfer of certain information such as channel setting.

MHP :

(Multimedia Home Platform) is the new

digital interactivity standard for digital TV. Some

digital TV channels contain MHP applications like games, additional information, voting, etc.

System :

Analogue programmes are not broadcast in the same way in all countries.There are different standards:BG, DK,I,and L L’.The

SYSTEM setting

(p.9) is used to select these different standards.This is not to be confused with PAL or SECAM colour coding. Pal is used in the majority of European countries, Secam in France, Russia and the majority of African countries.The United States and Japan use a different system called NTSC.The inputs EXT1 and EXT2 are used to read NTSC coded recordings.

16:9 :

Refers to the ration between the length and height of the screen.Wide screen televisions have a ration of 16/9,conventional screen TV sets have a ration of 4/3.

Positioning the TV

For the best results, choose a position where light does not fall directly on the screen,and at some distance away from radiators or other sources of heat. Leave a space of at least 5 cm all around the TV for ventilation, making sure that curtains, cupboards etc. cannot obstruct the air flow through the ventilation apertures.The TV is intended for use in a domestic environment only and should never be operated or stored in excessively hot or humid atmospheres.

Interference

The Department of Trade and Industry operates a Radio Interference Investigation Service to help TV licence holders improve reception of BBC and IBA programmes where they are being spoilt by interference. If your dealer cannot help,ask at a main Post Office for the booklet "How to Improve Television and Radio Reception".

Mains connection

Before connecting the TV to the mains, check that the mains supply voltage corresponds to the voltage printed on the type plate on the rear panel of the TV.If the mains voltage is different,consult your dealer.

Important

This apparatus is fitted with an approved moulded 13 Amp plug.To change a fuse in this type of plug proceed as follows:

1. Remove fuse cover and fuse.

2. Fit new fuse which should be a BS1362 5A, A.S.T.A. or BSI approved type.

3. Refit the fuse cover.

In order to maintain conformity to the EMC directive, the mains plug on this product must not be removed.

Connecting the aerial

The aerial should be connected to the socket marked : at the back of the set.An inferior aerial is likely to result in a poor, perhaps unstable picture with ghost images and lack of contrast. Make-shift loft or set-top aerials are often inadequate.Your dealer will know from experience the most suitable type for your locality. Should you wish to use the set in conjunction with other equipment, which connects to the aerial socket such as TV games, or a video camera it is recommended that these be connected via a combiner unit to avoid repeated connection and disconnection of the aerial plug.

Fitting the stand (if provided)

Use only the stand provided with the set,making sure that the fixings are properly tightened.A diagram showing how to assemble the stand is packed with the stand. Never use a make-shift stand, or legs fixed with woodscrews.
