INTRODUCTION

The Philips model 572 isan ultra lowdistortion two channel pre-amplifier capable
of highly accurate audio reproduction. This high quality instrument incorporates
state of the art design technology andcomponents. lts wide frequency response
of 10Hz to 40 KHz (Aux and Tuner) and low total harmonie distortion of 0.01%
make the Philips 572 one of the finest audio pre-amplifiers on the market today,
capable of giving you many years of outstanding performance.

Front panelcontrols are acombination of step detent controls andtouch switches
with LED (light emitting diode) indicators. The detent-type volume, bags and
treble controls provide for extremely accurate and simpte adjustment. The touch
switches provide smooth silent trouble-free operation without the "pops" and

"clicks" of mechanical switches. The LED indicator located above each set of
touch contacts tells you at a glance which switches have been activated and the

illuminated function read-outs are especially helpful when selecting a particular
operational mode or function.

Philips' unique tape through circuit provides you with an extensive tape and
souree combination. It has two full sets of tape input and output connectors on
the back panel and one pair on the front panel. This system permits you to use

two separate tape decks to record simultaneously or record on one and play on
another or vice versa. It has the capability to listen to the souree or to monitor
either of the tape decks without disturbing the recording.

Located on the back panel are six stereo inputs and four stereo outputs. These

provide for the connection of two record players, atuner and two tape decks for
recording, playback and tape-to-tape duplicating in either direction. Also on the
rear panel, PHONO 1and PHONO 2 input level controls are adjustable to give

1.5mVto 18mV input sensitivity. These controls enable you to adjust the volume

level of two turntables for proper balance with other functions and compensate
for differences in cartridge levels and channel balance.

amplifier wil! be found on the rear or bottom of the instrument. Please record this

INSTALLATION
Location
Before operating the pre-amplifier, select its location inthe listening room. Do

not locate the unit in direct sunlight, naar radiators or ether sources of heat.
Locations having high humidity or excessive dust should be avoided if at all
possible. Ifyou plan to installthe pre-amplifier inany type of cabinet or enclosure,
be sure to allow for adequate ventilation. To insure best performance, take the

time to prepare alocation that is sturdy enough to support the pre-amplifier and

its associated components.

Additional Equipment

Anyadditional audio equipment that you may wish to purchase should be ofthe
same high quality as this pre-amplifier. The Philips 572 is compatible with ether

products from Philips High Fidelity Laboratories as weil as most ether high

quality component equipment.

SYSTEMCONNECTION

Power Amplifier or MFB Speaker System

Two sets of stereo outputs are provided on the back panel of the pre-amplifier.
These may be connected to stereo power amplifiers and/or directly to Philips'

MFB(Motional Feedback) loudspeaker systems. Ifonlyone stereo power amplifier
or MFB stereo system is used, connect to the OUTPUT 1 terminals using the
audio cable supplied with the pre-amplifier. The upperterminal isthe left channel

and the lower terminal is the right channel.

Record Player

Two record players with magnetic cartridges may be connected to the Phono 1
and Phono 2 inputs. The Phono Level controls on the back of the pre-amplifier

have been pre-set at the factory fora level of2 mV(Phono 1)and 10mV(Phono 2).
However, these levels may be adjusted for any setting between 1.5 mVand 18
mV.Ifthe record players have separate ground wires, these should be connected

to the ground terminals on the back of the pre-amplifier. NOTE: Ifeither set of

phono inputs is not used, they must be grounded to prevent excessive hum inthe

amplifier. Four grounding plugs have been provided for this purpose. Simply

insert the plugs into the unused phono terminals.

Tuner
An

AM/FMStereo tuner can be connected to the TUNER input terminals. The

upper terminal is the left channel and the lower ene is the right channel. An

additional tuner mayalso be connected to the AUXinputs.
Tape Deck
Two tape decks can be connected to this pre-amplifier for recording, playback

and tape-ta-tape duplicating in either direction.

Recording Connection
Connectthe Line inputs ofthe tape decktothe TAPEARECterminals. Asecond

tape deck may be connected to the TAPE B REC terminals ifso desired. The

upper terminal is the left channel and the lower ene is the right channel.

Playback and Monitor Connections
Connect the Line or Minitor outputs of the first tape deck to the TAPE A PLAY

terminals. The second tape deck is connected to the TAPE B PLAYterminals in
the same manner.

Aux Inputs
The Aux inputs can be used for an additional source such as a stereo cassette

tape deck, sound track from a television or another tuner. The upper terminal is

the left channel and the lower ene is the right channel.
