These operating instructions are valid for
vehicles equipped with one of the following:
•smart Radio 9
•smart Radio 10
•Base Radio (from 10/2010 on)
and in conjunction with the following mobile
phones: Apple iPhone 3G or
Apple iPhone 3GS.
Parts included
•(1) smart cradle for the iPhone
(This will be referred to as "cradle" in these
instructions.)
Notes
The manufacturer reserves the right to
change any technical details from those
shown in the illustrations contained in these
installation instructions.
These installation instructions also refer to
the vehicle Operator's Manual, the Audio
operating instructions and the iPhone
manual. Please keep them handy for
reference.
High temperatures in the vehicle interior can
result in the cradle getting very hot during
operation.
Do not open the cradle and do not make any
modifications to the cradle. The general
operating permit will otherwise be rendered
invalid.

GRisk of accident
When using the iPhone, always
observe the laws and regulations
governing the use of mobile phones
in vehicles and while driving.
If you are going to install your
iPhone in the car, use the smart
drive software in order to get a
larger presentation of the contents
in the iPhone's display, which is
better adapted to your vehicle.
Only use the iPhone when traffic
conditions allow for it. You could
otherwise be distracted from the
traffic conditions, cause an accident
and injure yourself and others.
For safety reasons, when driving,
only use the hands-free mode to
make phone calls.
When you are using the iPhone via
the hands-free system, drive with
extra caution, close all windows and
try to eliminate background noise.
Please pull over or park the vehicle
if you do not wish to use the
hands-free system to make a call.
Do not stop the vehicle or park
where it is prohibited to do so.
Only pair the iPhone with the cradle
when the vehicle is at a standstill.
Otherwise, there is a risk that you
could be distracted from the traffic
conditions and cause an accident.

the contents in the iPhone's display, which is
better adapted to your vehicle. smart drive
gives you access to iPhone audio files,
webradio, ID songs, telephone, Car Finder and
Navigation (from 10/2010 on).

Pairing the iPhone with the Cradle
The iPhone must be in the vehicle but may
not be inserted in the cradle for pairing.
Note
When pairing with the cradle, the iPhone
should be fully charged.
1. Turn the ignition key to position 1, 2
or 3. (Please refer to the vehicle Operator's
Manual.)
The cradle will be available for approx. 2
minutes to establish a Bluetooth
connection and can be recognized by the
iPhone.
2. Select Settings General
Bluetooth on the iPhone and set the
button to I. (Please refer to the iPhone
manual.)
The iPhone begins to search for the cradle.
When the iPhone finds the cradle, smart drive appears in the iPhone display.
3. Select smart drive on the iPhone. A
passkey query appears in the iPhone display.
4. Enter the passkey 76278 on the iPhone
and press connect to confirm.
5. The iPh one is n ow r ead y to be u sed wit h
the hands-free system.
Note
A maximum of 10 iPhones can be paired with
the cradle. If you try to pair an 11th iPhone
with the cradle, the iPhone which was paired
first will be deleted.

Cradle
After coupling, a connection between the
iPhone and the cradle is established
automatically.
1. Place the iPhone into the cradle and
turn the ignition key to position 1, 2 or 3.
(Please refer to the vehicle Operator's
Manual.)
2. Start smart drive on the iPhone.
(Please refer to the iPhone manual.)
3. Switch on the radio. (Please refer to the
Audio operating instructions.)
Note
There will always be only one iPhone
connected with the cradle.
Switching to Hands-free Mode
The iPhone must be inserted in the cradle,
switched on, and must switch into
hands-free mode automatically in order for
the hands-free mode to function correctly.
The Bluetooth
®
symbol (arrow) in the iPhone
display (2) switches from gray to white.
Phone calls will automatically be carried out
over the radio.
Note
If you have activated Airplane mode, no
connection will be established between the
cradle and the iPhone in the cradle. (Please
refer to the iPhone manual.)

iPhone Audio Output
iPhone audio files can be played via the
radio.
1. Place the iPhone into the cradle and
turn the ignition key to position 1, 2 or 3.
(Please refer to the vehicle Operator's
Manual.)
2. Switch on the radio and select AUX.
(Please refer to the Audio operating
instructions.)
3. Start smart drive on the iPhone.
(Please refer to the iPhone manual.)
4. Start playback of the desired audio file
on the iPhone. (Please refer to the iPhone
manual.)
General Operating Instructions
It is advisable to switch off your iPhone at
least once a month. (Please refer to the
iPhone manual.)
The iPhone battery will be charged when the
ignition key is in position 1, 2 or 3.
