Congratulations! You've just purchased PeerCall, the phone that lets you place calls to other PeerCall all over the world for free. Just plug it into the Internet broadband connector, and start enjoying free and unlimited talk time!
The PeerCall phone's convenient volume control button provides for easy decibel-level adjustments for the speakerphone, handset, headset, and ringer.

1.2 Internet Connector
Connect the network cable from the hub or xDSL modem to the network port (RJ45) on the rear panel.
RJ45 DC IN
PeerCall service will be activated automatically when you connect to a server. From that moment you will have two years of free service for your PeerCall. You can apply to extend your service before the expiration date.
Please remember to register your PeerCall at
www.peercall.com. Registered users will receive
additional product information and special offers for our online services.
PeerCall will display "Starting..." during the power-on process on the LCD screen. There will be a "chime" sound once the PeerCall is powered and successfully connected. The network link indicator (Link) will also begin flashing. Your PeerCall number will be displayed for two seconds before entering Standby mode, when it is ready for Dial-Up. The message "PeerCall" and the current time will be displayed. DHCP, PPPoE, or FxIP will also appear indicating the current mode of network connection.
When the PeerCall is in use, pressing the Exit button or hanging up the Handset will put the phone back in
Standby mode.
When the phone is idle for more than 30 seconds, unless the user is talking, or recording a greeting or voice messages, it also automatically resets to Standby mode.
PLEASE NOTE: To display the current PeerCall phone
number, use the Show System Information function. Your PeerCall will not function properly if it cannot connect to a server. If you are not connected to a server, the message
"Not Ready..." will be displayed on LCD Screen. PeerCall
will automatically try to reconnect to the server until a connection is established. If your service subscription has expired, the message "Service End" will be displayed. For a complete list of Power-on Messages, please refer to
Appendix a. The PeerCall is able to receive text
messages from the server in Standby mode.

The user can either pick up the Handset or press any digit to go to Dial-Up mode ( section 2.2

). For the PeerCall model with a hook, the LCD display will show
"Please Dial" with the dial tone.
Enter the ten digit PeerCall number. There will be a tone when each key is pressed. To erase the last digit entered, press Clear . Press Exit or hang up the Handset to set the PeerCall back to Standby mode.
PLEASE NOTE: The user can switch to access a
Previous Number mode by pressing the or
button ONLY when all digits are erased. The user can switch to Save Phone Book mode by pressing the
Function button.
After completing your entry, Press OK to begin the connection process to another PeerCall phone. The display will show "Connecting...". If the connection cannot be established, the message will be replaced by
"Try Again...", and you will hear a busy tone (please
refer to section 2.2.

Once the connection is established, the message
"Calling..." (with the Ring Echo Tone) will appear
until the recipient picks up the phone (refer to Answer a Call). Once the recipient answers the phone, The display will show "Talking..." , and the outgoing ( or ) icons, the current time, and the elapsed time ee (in minutes).
A ladder chart will be displayed on the two right hand LCD segments to indicate the broadband traffic status. Higher ladder means better communication connection.
You will hear a busy tone after dialing a non­existing (or an un-subscribed) number, and the message "Invalid #" will be displayed with a warning (buzzer) sound. Check the number before dialing again.
During the conversation, if the recipient hangs up or press Exit , the message "End of Talk" will be displayed for 2 seconds, and the PeerCall will automatically reset to
Standby
mode. If the link is disconnected due to transmission difficulties, for more than eight seconds, the display will show
"Disconnected".
At the end of the conversation, just hang up the Handset or press Exit .
If recipient does not pick up the phone after 30 seconds, the voice mail will automatically pick up ( refer to Record a Voice Message ).
When you hear the busy tone, the recipient is either Busy, Off-Line or Unavailable to Connect. Within 5 seconds, PeerCall will go to Record a
Voice Message mode. The display will show
either "Busy...", "Off-line..." or "Try Again....".

For a quick test of PeerCall, Just dial 222-222-2222. You should hear the following voice message:
Thank you for using PeerCall. If you hear this message, your PeerCall is working properly and you can begin using this service.
2.3 Accessing Numbers from the Call list
From Standby or Dial up mode, press or button directly to browse the call list.
If the call list is empty, the message "No Call List" will be displayed with a warning (buzzer) sound. Hang up or press Exit button to return to Standby mode.
Up to 20 most recent outgoing ( ) and incoming ( ) calls will be recorded in the Call List. When CALL RECORD is on, call ID numbers, sequence number and the time of call will be displayed. For calls that were not connected(busy, off-line,...etc.), the failed ( ) icon will appear.
Once a number from the call list is selected, press

4.1 Recording a Voice Message

Saving a phone number to the Phone Book
In Dial Up mode, enter the 10-digit PeerCall number and press Function . The message "Enter ID 0-9" will be displayed. Enter the one digit memory ID (0-9); the 10-digit phone number will be stored on that ID number in the Phone Book and displayed on the screen.
Press OK to call. Press Exit or hang up return to
Standby mode.
PLEASE NOTE: The 10-digit number will be
immediately stored on the server. If the connection is interrupted, the number will be dropped. The message "Not Ready..." indicates the PeerCall is off­line ( please refer to section 2.1). If this happens, wait a moment and try your call again.
Retrieving a phone number from the Phone Book
In Standby mode, the user can select a phone number from the Phone Book by holding down the memory ID (0-9, one digit number) for more than 2 seconds. The phone number for the selected memory ID will be displayed. Press OK to start your call. Press Exit or hang up to return to Standby mode.
During the conversation, if the caller hangs up the Handset or presses Exit , the message "End of Talk" will be displayed for 2 seconds; the PeerCall will then return to Standby mode. If the link was disconnected due to transmission difficulties ( for more than 8 seconds), the message "Disconnected" will be displayed.
If the voice message box is full,you will hear a busy tone and the display will show
"Msg Box Full"
with a
warning (buzzer) sound. Hang up the Handset or press Exit button to return to Standby mode.
PLEASE NOTE: Up to 3 messages can be stored at
the voice message server. For information on how to
set up the server to automatically remove your oldest read message, go to www.peercall.com. Otherwise, the user should clear the voice message box regularly. The server will not record any additional new messages if the voice message box is full.
When the Voice Message Box is available, the user will hear a pre-recorded Greeting Message. The display will show
"Voice Mail"
. If the recipient did not record a Greeting Message, the caller will hear the following default Greeting Message:
When someone is calling, the buzzer will ring and the incoming PeerCall number will be displayed in the window, e.g. 111-666-8888. Pick up the Handset or press OK to answer the call. While talking on the phone, the LCD window will show
"Talking... ", an incoming ( ) icon, the current time,
hh:mm mo/dy, and the elapsed time ee (in minutes). The Internet traffic indicator will also be displayed. Please refer to section refer to section 2.2.

The message "Please Wait" indicates PeerCall is preparing to record.
record a voice message, the LCD display will change to "Recording..." and you will hear a beep sound. The caller can then begin recording a message up to 30 seconds.
The recording will end when the caller either hangs up the phone, presses the Exit button, or the 30 second timer is up and you hear the warning (buzzer) sound. The PeerCall will return automatically to Standby mode.
Any message lasting less than 2 seconds will be ignored by the PeerCall.
Press the Message button to retrieve Voice Messages.
If there are no voice messages, the message
"No Message" will appear with a warning
(buzzer) sound. Press the OK or Exit button to put PeerCall back to Standby mode.
If there are Voice Messages, the message light will be on. The sequence number, caller ID, the incoming icon ( or )
if the message is new (unread), and the time (hh:mm mo/dy) will be displayed.
Press Message to play Voice Message.
Press or  to stop playing the current message, and skip to the previous or next Voice Message information.
Press Clear to erase the current Voice Message.
Hang up or press Exit button to reset PeerCall to Standby mode.
Hold the Function key for 2 seconds until SETUP is on, and "Set Network" will appear on the screen. Use
and
keys to scroll to the desired option.
Press OK to make the selection, or Exit to return to the Standby mode.
PeerCall supports 3 types of Network connections:
DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol), PPPoE
(Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet) and Fixed IP (Fixed Internet Protocol). The factory default setting is DHCP. If you cannot make the PeerCall work in a new environment, use this option to set up and display the current setting
.

If the PeerCall is connected to a LAN socket in your office, or to an IP sharing router at home, you are likely to be connected with a DHCP mode through an NAT server.
If you connect to the ISP site through an xDSL or Cable Modem directly, or you use only routers without an NAT server, you are very likely using PPPoE type of connection.
If you cannot make the connection, download the test program at the www.peercall.com. It may give you more information about your type of internet connection.
DHCP, PPPoE, or FxIP will be displayed accordingly.
Press Exit to ignore the setting and return to
Standby mode, or OK to select the new mode. The
PeerCall will restart automatically for the new settings to take effect.
To select PPPoE or Fixed IP modes, please refer to section 5.1

or 5.1 3 for providing more parameters.
Setting Up the PPPoE Parameters
For PPPoE, your network connection configurations must be similar to diagrams on the right.
Hold the Function key down for 2 seconds. When

The connection mode which was originally selected during the power-on process will be displayed first. Press and to go through the different options,

PeerCall will ask you to enter the Account Name and the Password. Your MIS Manager or ISP should be able to provide you with these two parameters.

When asked to enter the account name (Account Name will appear on the screen for 2 seconds), use the keypads to enter up to 29 alpha-numeric characters while SETUP and NAME are on. Press Clear to erase the last entry, Exit to ignore entries and return to
Standby mode, or OK to go to the next step for
entering the password.

Repeatedly pressing the same numerical key will take you through the list of numerical and alphabetical characters. The alphabet is in lower case. If you need to switch to the upper case, press <*> (Caps Lock) key. The alphabet is assigned with the following numerical keys:
3.1 When prompted to enter the PeerCall IP address (display will show PeerCall IP for 2 seconds), use the keypad to make the entries while SETUP and IP are on.
PLEASE NOTE: The IP address consists of 4
segments with 3 digits (000 to 255) each. For each number smaller than 100, enter them with leading zeros, e.g., 25 should be entered as 025. PeerCall will validate the number each time the user is done with the entry of a segment. If the number entered was greater than 255, "Input Error !" will be displayed for 2 seconds, then the segment will be cleared for user to try again. Press Clear to erase the last entry, Exit to ignore entries and return to Standby mode, or OK to go to the next step: entering a network mask.
3.2 Next, you will then be asked to enter network mask (display will show "Network Mask" for 2 seconds) while SETUP and MASK are on. Follow the same steps as described above.

3.3 You will be asked next to enter the gateway IP address (display will show "Gateway IP" for 2 seconds) while SETUP and GATEWAY are on.

Setting up the Fixed IP Parameters
PeerCall will request that you enter three sets of fixed IP parameters: The PeerCall IP, Network Mask and Gateway IP. Your MIS manager or ISP should be able to provideyou these parameters.

start counting down from 15 seconds. You may record your greeting message during this time. At the end of the 15 seconds, or when the user presses OK , PeerCall will stop the recording.
"Replay..." appears as the recorded message
replays. At the end, the message "OK" or "Clear" will be displayed.
Press OK to accept the greeting message and then go back to Standby mode.
Please Note: the user can dial the current PeerCall
phone number to replay the greeting.
Press Clear to re-do the recording as described at the section 5.3.

Standby mode.

User can press the numerical keypads to make your entry (i.e. four segments with 3 digits each-please refer to the note

5.1 On-line Upgrade Firmware Program PeerCall allows user to download the latest Firmware updates from Internet. Press OK to enter the Upgrade mode. PeerCall will check the current used firmware version. If it's the latest version, the LCD will show "Find None" for 30 seconds and then return to Standby mode. Otherwise, display will show "Downloading..." and will start downloading the most recent firmware update from the server. After the downloading is finished, the user will be asked to update the firmware with the message "Are You Sure". Press
Exit to cancel and return to Standby mode, or OK to update. If you choose to update, the
display will show "Updating...". PeerCall will then display "Update Done" if the update was successful, or "Update Fail" if not.
PLEASE NOTE: There is a potential risk of
permanent harm to the PeerCall device if electric power is lost during the updating process (while it is displaying "Updating..." .
