QUICK SETUP GUIDE
1
GETTING STARTED
Capture consists of two main parts – the quick-release plate and the clip. Both are made from die-cast, post-machined powder coated aluminum. All parts are weatherproof and have a lifetime guarantee.
INSTALL THE PLATE
Remove the quick-release plate from the clip by pressing the quick-release button. Install the plate onto the tripod mount on the bottom of your camera. Screw the plate in with a coin or screwdriver, twisting it tight to ensure a solid connection.
2
OPEN THE CLIP
The clip is made up of two plates that clamp together. Loosen the clamping bolts to unclamp the plates and swivel them apart.
3
WEAR THE CLIP
On a backpack: the backplate sits behind your left backpack strap and the clip sits in front of it. To get Capture around thick shoulder straps you can loosen the clamping bolts all the way or remove them.
Capture fits any strap up to 3 inches wide
and 0.5 inches thick.
On a belt: loop the backplate behind your belt to the right of your buckle. Swivel the clip closed and hand-tighten the clamping bolts. Capture works best when the top clamping bolt rests on the top edge of your belt.
4
CLIP IN YOUR CAMERA
Lock your camera in by sliding the quick-release plate into the clip. Insert your camera with the lens facing down to maximize stability and comfort. You can slide your camera into the clip in any direction, allowing for easy lens changes.
5
TAKE YOUR CAMERA EVERYWHERE
Capture holds your camera rigidly, which means you can do any physical activity with your DSLR. To access your camera simply press the quick-release button and slide your camera out.
USAGE TIPS FOR PROS
Always ensure the quick-release plate is tightened securely to your camera using a screwdriver or coin.
On the backpack, wear Capture on your left shoulder with the quick-release button right to maximize ease of access.
On the belt, wear Capture with the quick-release button facing down. This lets you grab your camera with one hand.
If you have a long lens, wear Capture on the side of your hip. If you have a shorter lens, Capture works best toward the center of your belt or mounted to a backpack.
Capture’s standard quick-release plate fits in any ARCA-type tripod
head. A Manfrotto-compatible plate will be available soon.
For fast and easy lens changing, insert your camera into Capture with the lens facing sideways or up.

IMPORTANT:
Capture’s clip is NOT compatible with the plates that come with your ARCA-SWISS® or Manfrotto® systems. This is because of a unique feature on the bottom of Capture’s plate which is necessary for the quick release lock to function.
Capture’s plate is not compatible with ARCA Slidefix tripods. Slidefix is a system that Arca came out with a few years back, and uses a plate which is narrower than ARCA Classic. Unfortunately, it’s impossible to accommodate both under Capture’s current design.
DUALplate specifically works with Manfrotto® RC2 heads. There are several other types of quick release heads that Manfrotto® makes, all of which are different shapes and sizes. RC2 is by far Manfrotto’s most popular model.
Will Capture work well with a battery grip, or camera bodies like the Canon 1D series or Nikon D3 or D4?
Capture® can absolutely hold professional setups or cameras with battery grips. However, you should be cautioned about the ergonomics of using these setups, particularly with normal waist belts and straps. Putting a battery grip (and a flash) on your camera gets the center of gravity further away from the body, and makes Capture less effective. Some people have found success using battery grips and flashes, and that’s greathowever, we are not actively promoting Capture as a tool for large body cameras because it is a matter of opinion on how effective it is. Without question, the benefits of Capture are diminished anytime your setup’s weight ventures too far from the base of the camera.
We do, however, promote the use of Capture with a professional-grade camera belt like the Think Tank Pro Speed Belt. When using Capture with a Pro Speed Belt, the weight of heavier, bulkier rigs is much better supported. Many pro shooters choose this kind of setup for Capture.

Using Capture with heavy cameras & lenses:
Capture works best with small to mid size DSLR cameras, but you can still comfortably use Capture with full-frame camera bodies like the Nikon D3 or Canon 1D, as well as cameras with bulky telephoto lenses. The key to doing this is clamping Capture onto a professional grade camera belt, like the Think Tank® Photo Pro Speed Belt. Capture fits snugly to these belts, giving you an unbeatable combination of security and accessibility.
Please see our instructions on how to ‘Attach a Capture® to a Think Tank® Photo Pro Speed Belt’.
Can I use Capture with a hand strap?
You bet. Capture’s ARCAplate quick release plate is equipped with 4 hand strap loops and the DUALplate and MICROplate are equipped with 2 hand strap loops, so you can secure a hand strap for extra grip. Capture’s hand strap loops are the same size as the standard strap loops that come on many DSLR bodies. If you’re looking to buy a hand strap, we recommend you go into a camera store and try out a few with Capture before purchasing one.

Attaching Capture® to a Think Tank® Photo Pro Speed Belt:
All Think Tank Photo camera belts are equipped with braided nylon loops. Capture’s bottom plate fits perfectly inside one of these loops. Swivel the clip open and stick the free clamping
bolt through one of the loops in the belt.
Push the bottom plate through the loop. This step requires a bit
of elbow grease, but both Capture and the Think Tank Photo belts are more than sturdy enough to handle it. You’ll find that Capture’s bottom plate fits snugly through the loop without a millimeter to spare.
Swivel Capture closed and tighten down the clamping bolts.
Now Capture is securely fastened to your Think Tank Photo belt.
Fasten the Think Tank Photo belt around your hips and pull the
straps tight. Then, simply slide your camera into place with the lens pointing downwards. We recommend trying Capture in a few different loop positions to find the optimal combination of comfort and ease-of-access.
