Streptococcus oralis is a Gram-positive, non motile, α-haemolytic bacterium of the viridans group of Streptococcus genus. The double-stranded DNA genome is circular containing just over 2Mbp. As a part of the healthy oral flora, S. oralis is often found in plaque and dental cavities but is also capable of causing bacterial endocarditis and septicaemia in susceptible individuals. S. oralis enters the bloodstream via open wounds such as those created during oral surgery and consequently causes platelet aggregation and oxidation of iron in haemoglobin. Protease activity targeted at host IgA weakness the immune defense. Bacterial endocarditis presents with loss of appetite, rash, joint pain, fatigue and prolonged fever lasting two to three days in a person with congenital heart disease. Treatment is targeted at eradication of the bacterium from the infection site and bactericidal agents such as Penicillin G in aqueous crystalline form are given parenterally to achieve this. Antibiotics are commonly given to high risk individuals before procedures with a risk of bacterial entry into bloodstream.

Our kit for S. oralis has been designed for the specific and exclusive in vitro quantification of all S. oralis isolates and no other streptococcus species. Glucosytranferase genes have previously been shown to be a good target sequences for the differential detection of Streptococcus species in other clinical real time PCR based studies (W. kim Seow et.al., 2009). The primers and probe sequences in this kit have 100% homology with a broad range of clinically relevant reference sequences based on a comprehensive bioinformatics analysis.
The PCR Max qPCR Kit for Streptococcus oralis (S.oralis) genomes is designed for the in vitro quantification of S.oralis genomes. The kit is designed to have the broadest detection profile possible whilst remaining specific to the S.oralis genome.
The primers and probe sequences in this kit have 100% homology with a broad range of S.oralis sequences based on a comprehensive bioinformatics analysis.
If you require further information, or have a specific question about the detection profile of this kit then please send an e.mail to help@pcrmax.com and our bioinformatics team will answer your question.
