Enterococcus casseliflavus is a Gram-positive, motile, catalase-negative bacterium (originally termed as Streptococcus faecium var casseliflavus). Its genome is a linear DNA chromosome about 3.4Mnt long consisting of 3283 protein coding genes. This opportunistic pathogen can cause urinary tract infections, bacteraemia and infective endocarditis. E. casseliflavus can normally be found in the gastrointestinal tract but is capable of causing infection by colonisation especially after hospitalisation. Transmission can be via direct contact with contaminated faeces, blood or urine or via indirect contact. The pathogenesis of E. casseliflavus is not well established but it is thought that the plasmid encoded proteins haemolysin or bacteriocin may be virulence factors causing pathogenesis by lysing erythrocytes. This bacterium has intrinsic resistance to vancomycin and acquired resistance to several other antibiotics and so if the strain is susceptible, ampicillin and penicillins are the drugs of choice. Efforts to prevent direct contact with infected individuals are standard practice in hospitals.

Our kit for E. casseliflavus has been designed for the specific and exclusive in vitro quantification of all E. casseliflavus strains. Super oxide dismutase has previously been shown to be a good target sequence for the differential detection of enterococcus species in other clinical real time PCR based studies (B.A. Layton et.al., 2010). The primers and probe sequences in this kit have 100% homology with a broad range of clinically relevant reference sequences based on a comprehensive bioinformatics analysis.
The PCR Max qPCR Kit for Enterococcus caseliflavus (E.caseliflavus) genomes is designed for the in vitro quantification of E.caseliflavus genomes. The kit is designed to have the broadest detection profile possible whilst remaining specific to the E.caseliflavus genome.
The primers and probe sequences in this kit have 100% homology with a broad range of E.caseliflavus sequences based on a comprehensive bioinformatics analysis.
If you require further information, or have a specific question about the detection profile of this kit then please send an e.mail to help@pcrmax.com and our bioinformatics team will answer your question.
