Ajellomyces capsulatus is a fungus of the Ajellomycetaceae family. This species has a DNA genome of over 30M nucleotides and is a known cause of Histoplasmosis, a disease of the lungs.
This dimorphic fungus changes through distinct stages controlled by environmental temperature. In temperature around 25°C, such as in soil where the fungus is commonly found, it is in a filamentous mycelia state. In the soil, the fungus produces spore which can be inhaled as aerosols. In the lungs at 37°C it changes into budding yeast of up to 2µm in length inside the host cell after phagocytosis.
Histoplamosis can infect anybody but especially the very young and very old or immunosupressed individuals. This infection may be asymptomatic or can cause flu like symptoms including fever and chest pains after an incubation period of around 10 days. The infection can be treated with anti-fungal medicines and can be fatal if left untreated.

The target sequence within the internal transcribed spacer region of the rRNA gene complex has previously been shown to be a good genetic marker for A. capsulatus in other clinical real-time PCR based studies (Jose Martagon-Villamil, et.al 2003). The primers and probe sequences in this kit have 100% homology with a broad range of clinically relevant reference sequences based on a comprehensive bioinformatics analysis.
The PCR Max qPCR Kit for Ajellomyces capsulatus (A.capsulatus ) genomes is designed for the in vitro quantification of A.capsulatus genomes. The kit is designed to have the broadest detection profile possible whilst remaining specific to the A.capsulatus genome.
The primers and probe sequences in this kit have 100% homology with a broad range of A.capsulatus sequences based on a comprehensive bioinformatics analysis.
If you require further information, or have a specific question about the detection profile of this kit then please send an e.mail to help@pcrmax.com and our bioinformatics team will answer your question.
