1 Introduction
Thank you for purchasing a tabletop scale from PCE Instruments. The PCE-BS 6000 tabletop scale offers a compact design, high accuracy and an easy handling at a low price. The weighing platform of the tabletop scale is made of stainless steel, which makes it easy to clean. The scale can be operated by using the integrated mains adaptor or by using 6 x 1.5 V AA batteries. In battery operation, the PCE-BS 6000 is well-suited for mobile application. With its adjustable feet and the integrated water-level, the scale can be arranged properly in no time.
2 Safety notes
Please read this manual carefully and completely before you use the device for the first time. The device may only be used by qualified personnel and repaired by PCE Instruments personnel. There is no warranty of damage or injuries caused by non-observance of the manual.
The device may only be used in the approved temperature range.
The case should only be opened by qualified personnel of PCE Instruments.
The instrument should never be placed with the user interface facing an object (e.g. keyboard
side on a table).
You should not make any technical changes to the device.
The appliance should on ly be cleane d with a damp cloth / use only pH-neutral cleaner.
Do not expose the scale to direct sunlight. This can lead to malfunction.
Only use the included mains adaptor (9V, 100 mA). In battery operation, only use 1.5 V AA
batteries. Replace all batteries at the same time.
If you do not use the scale for a longer period of time, remove the batteries to prevent damage caused by battery leakage.
Do not expose the scale to water. Do not use it in areas with high air humidity.
Keep the scale clean and prevent dust and other particles from reaching the electronics. For
cleaning, use a damp cloth. Do not use solvent-containing materials for cleaning.
Avoid electrostatic discharge when using the scale.
Avoid vibrations and shocks while the scale is in use.
Make sure that the scale is always arranged properly. Use the integrated water-level to check.

5 Weighing
5.1 General notes
Always keep the automatic power-off function in mind. After 3 minutes of idling time (when there is no weight on the platform), the scale automatically shuts down to save battery power.
Error messages
EEEE Overload (weighing cell load is too high; weighing cell is probably damaged)
Battery voltage too low
5.2 Weighing
1. Turn on the scale by pressing the ON/OFF button.
2. Choose the weighing unit by using the UNIT button. You can select between kg, g, lb and oz.
3. Put the load on the weighing platform and wait for the reading on the display to stabilize.
5.3 Hold function
You can freeze the reading on the display for about 120 s (after the load has been removed).
1. Put the load on the platform.
2. Press the Hold button. A hold indication appears on the display.
3. Remove the load from the platform. The reading now remains on the display of the scale.
If you manually want to unfreeze the reading, press the Zero button. To exit the Hold function, press the Hold button. You get back to normal measuring mode.
5.4 Tare function
You can tare weights by pressing the Zero button (up to half of the weighing range).

6 Calibration
A calibration can be reasonable when the scale is moved a lot or when the environmental conditions vary heavily. To perform a calibration, follow these steps:
1. Turn on the scale by using the ON/OFF button.
2. Press and hold the CAL button for 2 seconds. The display first shows “CAL” and then a flashing “0”.
3. Press the CAL button again. The display now shows the max. load of the scale (6,000 g) in flashing figures.
4. Put a 6 kg calibration weight on top of the platform and press the CAL button one more time. The display now shows “PASS” and you are redirected to normal measuring mode. The calibration has been completed.
5. Turn off the scale and then turn it back on by using the ON/OFF button. Take a few measurements. If you notice or suspect deviations between the measurements, you can repeat the calibration.
