WARNING
• The Model 6500 ForeFront DACS Bundles contains power modules and cards which may be removed to send for repair. However the individ­ual modules and cards contain no user serviceable parts. The equip­ment shall be returned to Patton Electronics for repairs, or repaired by qualified service personnel.
• For DC powered units, an approved external power source that incor­porates a disconnect device shall be used and positioned within easy reach of the operator.
• For AC powered units, the power cable used to connect the power supply shall meet all applicable standards for the country in which it is to be installed, and be connected to a wall outlet which has earth ground.
• Line voltages are present within the power supply when the power cords are connected. The mains outlet that is utilized to power the devise shall be within 10 feet (3 meters) of the device, shall be easily accessible, and protected by a circuit breaker.
• Hazardous network voltages are present in WAN ports regardless of whether power to the unit is ON or OFF. To avoid electric shock, use caution when near WAN ports. When detaching the cables, detach the end away from the ForeFront chassis first.
• Do not work on the system or connect or disconnect cables during periods of lightning activity.
1.0 Powering up the ForeFront DACS chassis
The interconnecting cables shall be acceptable for external use and shall be rated for the proper application with respect to voltage, current, anticipated temperature, flam­mability, and mechanical serviceability.
CAUTION
Your 6500 ForeFront DACS bundle comes with AC or DC power supplies.
1.1 AC power supplies
1. If your 6500 ForeFront DACS bundle is equipped with a 6276 2U chassis, refer to section “Installing the
power cables—AC unit” on page 37 of the Model 6276 ForeFront Half-Pipe Chassis Assembly User Guide available online at www.patton.com/manuals/6276_UG.pdf.
2. If your 6500 ForeFront DACS bundle is equipped with a 6476 4U chassis, refer to section “Installing the
power cables—AC unit” on page 36 of the Model 6476 ForeFront FullPipe Chassis Assembly User Guide available online at www.patton.com/manuals/6476_UG.pdf.

4. If your 6500 ForeFront DACS bundle is equipped with a 6276 2U chassis, refer to section “Installing the

2.0 Connecting to the ForeFront chassis
With only a single Ethernet connection to the ForeFront chassis, you can manage all the cards in the chassis. After connecting, you may verify or change the configuration to function in your application.
The interconnecting cables shall be acceptable for external use and shall be rated for the proper application with respect to voltage, current, anticipated temperature, flam­mability, and mechanical serviceability.
CAUTION
If your ForeFront DACS bundle is a Model 6525 Series, go to section 2.1 “Connecting to the 6081RC
(Model 6525 Series)”.
If your ForeFront DACS bundle is a Model 6545/1S64E Series, go to section 2.2 “Connecting to the
6511RC (Model 6545/1S64E Series)” on page 4.
2.1 Connecting to the 6081RC (Model 6525 Series)
1. Configure your PC as follows:
— 192.168.201.1/24 — Enter a route to the 192.168.200.0/24 subnet

2. Connect the RJ45–RJ45 cable included with your ForeFront Router bundle between your PC and the front
panel Ethernet port of the Model 2616RC (bottom slot) (see figure 1).
3. Enter the 2616RC’s IP address (192.168.200.4) into the browser. Type in the username (superuser) and
password (superuser). You should see the Home Page of the 2616RC.
4. You can access the other cards’ management web pages by entering the card’s IP address using the same
username and password.

5. Refer to section 3.0 “Default clocking parameters” on page 6 for the default clocking
