Introduction
The Aperture Bra cket a cts as a mask a nd ho lder for a l ight sen sor.
By rotating a disk, you can select various apertures to control the
sensor’ s spacial resolut ion and the amount of light entering the
sensor . A remov able sc reen di splays light cas t to t he left and ri ght
of apert ure . The Aper tu re Bra cke t also al low s a lig h t sens or to be
mounted on the include d holder, so that th e sensor c an be us ed on
a PASCO Basic Optics bench.
10% Screen
The small holes in the screen allow approxima tely 10% of incident light thr ough to the sensor.
Circular Aperture
This aperture is approximately 8 mm in diameter. It allows th e
maximum amount of light through to the sensor.
Translucent Screen
The translucent screen allows the sensor to measure illuminance,
for instance when demonstrating the inverse-s quare law. The
screen is approximately 8 mm in diameter.

Assembly
1. Use the th u m b screw to fa st en th e s en so r to th e bracket as
illustrated.
About the Apertures
Slit Apertures
The six slit a perture s are ty pical ly used when scannin g the sensor
across a spectrum or a diffraction pattern. Select a w i der slit to
allow more light into the sensor or a narrower s lit to improve the
spacial resolution. The approximate widths of the apertures are
0.1 mm, 0.2 mm, 0.3 mm, 0.5 mm, 1.0 mm, and 1.5 mm.

2. Turn the disk to select the desired aperture. The aperture in
use is in th e lowest po s i ti on.
3. (Optional) Attach the bracket to the included component
holder as il lustrat ed .
Attaching t he Bracket to a
Rotary Motion Sensor
Using the Bracket with a
Cuvette
To hold a cuvette (such as PASCO part SE-8739) in front of the
sensor , fasten the sensor to the Ape r ture Bracket as ill ustrated,
and place the cuvett e between the sensor and th e dis k.
Screw Storage
When the thumbscrew is not in use, screw it into the storage location as illustrated.
1. Screw the inc luded post into the br acket as illu strated.
2. Secure the post in the clamp of a Rotary Motion Sensor.
Removing the S creen
Loosen th e two thumbscrew s on the screen to rem ove it. The c aptured thumbscre w s rema in loosely connected to the detached
screen.
