Installation Instructions
This kit is for engines with an existing spin--on bypass filtration system.
1. Identify the existing engine bypass filter location. Verify that it is the BYPASS filter location and NOT the normal full--flow filter location.
2. Remove the existing bypass filter and thoroughly clean the filter location and the engine’s threaded spud.
3. Remove the canister from the LFS 802--S filter head by turning the head in a counter--clockwise rotation (use a strap wrench if necessary). Also remove the filter element from the head by turning the element in a counter--clockwise rotation.
4. Lubricate the three O--rings (see photos below) on the LFS 802--S head with oil. Apply Loctite 277 on the engine spud and the LFS 802--S female mounting threads and spin the head onto the engine. Use a 1 1/8” socket wrench to securely fasten the head to the engine. Tighten until the head stops rotating.

5. Apply Loctite 277 to the two 3/8”--16 set--screws and thread them into the bottom of the LFS 802--S filter head until contact is made with the engine. Tighten set--screws evenly . After initial contact turn each set--screw approximately 1/8 to 1/4 turn with a 3/16” Allen wrench to allow the cupped point to securely engage the engine.
NOTE -- It is possible that both set--screws will not engage the engine at the same time. This may be because one of them it is located within the oil entrance port. In this case, continue to thread the loose set--screw until it does engage the engine.

6. Reassemble the LFS 802--S filter element and canister. Tighten snugly by hand only -- do not overtighten.
7. Allow the Loctite to cure for 45 minutes before starting the engine. Start engine and check for leaks. Let the engine run for a few minutes or to operating temperature. Caution -- the bypass filter canister will be warm or hot. Check for oil circulation by checking the bypass filter canister for heat.
8. Shut off engine and check oil level. Add oil as needed.
Changing the LFS 802--S Element
Replacement element part number -- LFS 802BPE (includes O--rings).
Replacement O--ring kit part number -- LFS RK46582.
1. NOTE -- the filter system canister may be difficult to remove f rom the head because of friction on the O--ring. A strap wrench may be required to remove it.
2. Remove the Racor filter canister by rotating it in a counter--clockwise rotation. Clean the canister and set aside. After the canister has been removed from the head, verify that the head is secure and has not moved. Retighten if necessary.
3. Remove (and properly dispose of) the filter element by turning it in a counter--clockwise rotation.
4. Replace the used O--rings on the head with the new O--rings that come with the replacement element. The O--ring on the canister must be replaced or it may not form a leak--proof seal with the spin--on head. Lubricate both O-- rings with motor oil before installation.
5. Thread the new element onto the head and tighten snugly by hand only -- do not overtighten.
6. Thread the canister onto the head and tighten snugly by hand only -- do not overtighten.
7. Start engine and check for leaks. Let the engine run for a few minutes or to operating temperature. Caution -- the bypass filter canister will be warm or hot. Check for oil circulation by checking the bypass filter can for heat.
8. Shut off engine and check oil level. Add oil as needed.
