Question Answer
1
Infrared Rays remote controller?
•The answer to this question is No.
•This feature uses the standardized protocol as one of the HDMI standards.
•Support of this feature is optional for manufacturers of HDMI-compliant devices.
•In January 2006, the HDMI specifications version 1.2a was released, and the test specifications of this protocol were made clear from this version, making it possible for manufacturers to obtain the HDMI logo certifications.
Is this HDAVI Control protocol similar
2
to Q-Link (Europe) of scart cable?
Are the functions of the HDAVI CONTROL common to VIERA, DIGA,
3
AV products and other Panasonic products?
Are there any functional differences between PDP and LCD?
For European model:
4
For Asian and the other countries model:
For American model:
HDAVI CONTROL signal is sent through 13 pins of the HDMI cable. Also, the protocol is very similar to Q-Link, AV-Link, and Project 50 of the scart cable. In this regard, the answer to this question is YES.
By connecting Panasonic products in certain combinations, the system will provide the functions that are suited to their particular configuration. If the combined products are in the same product category, the functions of the HDAVI CONTROL are the same. (For spring 2006 models) For example, if connecting a VIERA and a DIGA, and if the DIGA model is replaced with each type model, the functions HDAVI CONTROL provides are the same. However, for an LCD VIERA, which is to be released in spring 2006, there are some differences in functions as shown in answers to question 4 below.
PDP released in 2006 are compliant with functions of the Theater System and can be used with all HDAVI CONTROL functions.
With the LXD60 (LCD) series for the UK and the LX60 (LCD) series for the other European countries, the HDAVI CONTROL functions only for the VIERA and DIGA in combination. It does not function with linking the Theater System such as outputting sound from the Theater. => With the 600 (LCD) series, the HDAVI CONTROL functions with the entire system.
With the LCD VIERA, the HDAVI CONTROL functions only for between VIERA and DIGA. It does not function with linking the Theater System such as outputting sound from the Theater.
With LX60 (LCD) series, the HDAVI CONTROL functions only for the VIERA and DIGA in combination. It does not function with linking the Theater System such as outputting sound from the Theater. => With the 600 (LCD) series, the HDAVI CONTROL functions with the entire system.
For Japanese model:
If connected with competitors’ devices, will the HDAVI CONTROL feature
5
operate? In addition, will be there any problems?
The LX60 (LCD) series is not compliant with the HDAVI CONTROL. => With the 600 (LCD) series, the HDAVI CONTROL functions with the entire system.
There are no competitors’ devices that use this HDAVI CONTROL feature as of February 2006. If CEC- (which is clearly stated as one of the HDMI standards) compliant devices are made in the future (devices that are not compliant with the HDAVI CONTROL but are with the CEC only that are standardized by the HDMI standard), the features of “Auto Input Select” and “VIERA ONE TOUCH POWER-OFF” will function. Features related to the Theater System are unique to the HDAVI CONTROL, so they will not function.

Question Answer
What are the differences between the standard CEC functions and Panasonic’s
6
HDAVI CONTROL? Are there any special features?
What are the differences with the Q-Link
7
(Europe) operation? Can I record the images (programs) that
I am watching if I press the RECORD
8
button on the remote controller of the DIGA?
What kind of images will be displayed
9
after stopping the PLAY mode?
The HDAVI CONTROL functions in
10
both the HDMI 1 and 2 series. Is there any priority between the two?
If the amplifier is turned off manually while replaying the DVD with the
11
amplifier outputting sound, will the VIERA’s speaker output sound.
If the amplifier is turned on manually while replaying the DVD and the sound
12
output is switched, can I control the sound volume using the VIERA’s remote controller?
The control signals in the HDMI are standardized in the industry. Based on the HDMI standard, the HDAVI CONTROL is realized by adding our unique control signals by following the regulated system in the HDMI standard. To protect these unique Matsushita technologies, we have applied for intellectual-property patents. The Home Theater linking features are Matsushita’s original technology.
Please refer to “6. Functional Comparison Table of Europe Q-Link vs. HDAVI CONTROL” in the last section.
If you wish to record the images (programs) that are displayed by the VIERA’s tuner using the DIGA’s remote controller, you must set the DIGA’s tuner to select the same images that are displayed by the VIERA’s tuner. Then it is possible to record the images. (This is the same specifications as before.)
With European models, they return to images displayed by the TV tuner. For the other models, the DIGA’s images will be displayed.
Japan model: If two or more DIGAs are connected to the VIERA, the priority goes to the DIGA that is connected to the HDMI 1. All models: Automatic input switching has no priority in the HDMI terminals. Later input overrides the previous one and switches the input.
Yes, the VIERA’s speaker will output sound.
No, you cannot control the volume with the VIERA’s remote controller; you can only do so by turning on the amplifier manually. From the Menu in the VIERA, please select and set “Output sound from the AV amplifier (Home Theater)”. Then you will be able to control the volume of the AV amplifier with the VIERA’s remote controller.
Are there any functional differences in the HDAVI CONTROL in AV
13
amplifiers by each regional market (American, Europe, Asia and China)?
Even within the same regional market, the HDAVI CONTROL features
14
function differently between the PDP and LCD. Why?
How can you determine whether VIERA recognizes devices that are connected to
15
it? If VIERA does not recognize a device, how can you find this out?
No.
Because the hardware and software are different, the functions that can be used are different.
Turn on the power of all HDAVI CONTROL-compliant devices and then turn off the VIERA’s power. Check to see if the devices are turned off. (This is based on the assumption that the HDAVI CONTROL in each device is not set to OFF.) If a device does not function properly, turn on the power of all the devices again; then turn off and on the power of the VIERA (TV); and replay the DIGA and check to see if the images are displayed on the TV screen properly. (Input switching to TV must be done manually.)
