1. INTRODUCTION
The RB-KIT is an integrated, all-in-one security router appliance that delivers enterprise-class multi-threat protection
and routing for your home. It offers a full suite of security services in one hardened router platform: antivirus / antispyware / antimalware, intrusion prevention (IPS), web ltering, stateful rewall and trafc shaping, and IPSec/SSL VPN.
The RB-KIT is precongured to allow custom installers to focus on quick, quality installations without enterprise
configuration worries.
Also, the Pakedge Router including in the kit is congured for a Guest Network. The Guest Network is called VLAN 6 is only used for a Guest Network because it is setup by policy to only have internet access- no other devices on the internal network will be accessible. If a Guest Network is desired, connect a VLAN capable
wireless access point directly to the router configured to the 6th VLAN.
Note: If this is your first time installing this product, please read this manual in its entirety. Even though this product was design to get you up and running quickly, you can perform unlimited customizations to meet every installation.
A very Basic (Section 2.2.1) setup would be- configure the router for the type of internet service such as Dynamic, Static and PPPoE and plug the appropriate cables into the different devices.
A more Advance (Section 2.2.2) setup would be to do everything in the prior paragraph and then adding load balancing for two internet connections and a setting up SSL VPN tunnel.

2.2 Summary of Setup
2.2.1 Basic Setup
Most installations will only require plugging in the cables into the right ports and setting up the type of
internet connection (ie. Static, Dynamic, etc) for an easy plug and play configuration.
To complete the basic setup- Follow the instructions in:
1. Section 3 to complete the hardware installation
2. Then Section 4 to configure the broadband internet connection.
3. At this point, you are up and running, however if you desire to activate the optional Security
Subscription, go to Section 5.
2.2.2 Advanced Features Setup
After completing the basic setup, advanced features can be added if desired. This will required a different
login from the basic installation. The current advanced features that are discussed in this manual are:
Disable DHCP - this feature is useful if there is another DHCP server on the subnet/network.
Change LAN IP Address Values - this is useful is you wish to change the IP address
from it’s factory default of 192.168.1.X
RB-KIT INSTALLATION MANUAL
11
Page 13
Port Forwarding - is sometimes known as port mapping. This feature allows forwarding a network
port from the internet to a port on the internal network behind the router. This is needed if the user wishes to publish a web server or mail server inside the internal network.
VPN - this service allows a user to remotely connect to the internal network behind the router from the
internet. Pakedge currently supports 2 types of VPN connections PPTP and SSL.
1. PPTP - PPTP technology extends the Point to Point Protocol (PPP) standard for traditional dial-up
networking. PPTP operates at Layer 2 of the OSI model. As a network protocol, PPTP is best suited for the remote access applications of VPNs, but it also supports LAN internetworking. PPTP
client software is included with all current Windows and Linux operating systems and is also included with Mac OS X (10.2) and above.
2. SSL - SSL runs on Secure Socket Layers technology and is accessible via https over web
browsers. It permits a user to establish safe and secure remote access sessions from virtually any internet browsers to access home controls, share files, etc. SSL VPN advantage over IPsec VPN is that a client software does not need to be installed.
Dual WAN Redundancy - the ability for a user to have two broadband connections (one from the
cable provide and another from the phone company) as a backup in case first connection goes down.
Dynamic DNS - Allows users with non-static IP addresses to access their device with a DNS name
service that tracks the IP address when it changes.
Each of these features is independent of each other and sequence of installation does not matter. Pakedge will add more features over time. Please visit our website for the latest Advanced Features User Manual: http://www.pakedge.com/ userguides.php. Finally, additional features can be added by referring to the Fortinet Administrator Guide for the Fortigate50B http://www.pakedge.com/docs/fortigate_admin_4.pdf. Please note, Pakedge does not support anything outside of these features. If support is required, it can be purchased from Fortinet. Please contact Pakedge for details.

4 Broadband Software Configuration
There are only a few settings to the RT-50S Router conguration that may be needed before the router/
switch kit is operational. The first router configuration is to setup your broadband internet connection. To do this, determine the type of internet service you have. There are three types of internet connections that are supported by the RT-50S:
1) DHCP (Typically used by cable companies and DSL basic service)
2) Static IP (Fixed Public IP address mostly used by Business Class Broadband services)
3) PPPoE (Used by DSL companies such as AT&T)
Determine the type of internet connection from your ISP, and then follow one of the three instruction sets below to connect the RT-50S to the internet.
4.1 DHCP Configuration
There are no configuration changes necessary if the internet service provider is using DHCP and you do not wish to open network ports to the public internet or use SSL virtual private network (VPN).
Power down the internet provider supplied device and leave it powered down for one minute. Plug the
Ethernet cable from the ISP device into the “WAN1” port on the RT-50S Router. Power up the internet
provider supplied device, wait one minute then power on the Router.

5 Subscription Services
One major difference between a basic everyday router and an enterprise security appliance is that there are subscription services available at the enterprise level to protect the network at the perimeter and not allow malware to reach your internal systems. Pakedge has created a custom profile that protects users from the most common types of threats. This further adds to the plug and play simplicity of the Pakedge preconfigured solution.
Pakedge’s Subscription Services include:
• Antivirus
• AntiSpam
• Web Filtering
• Intrusion Protection
• Fortinet Support
The RT-50S comes with a free 30 day subscription to these services, once the RT-50S is registered on the Pakedge website. After the trial period, subscription to these services is available for a fee through Pakedge.
Order processing is simple and all that is required is a Serial Number and an email address to automatically
deploy the subscription without any dealer intervention. Furthermore, friendly reminders will be sent to you to
indicate upcoming renewals. All subscriptions come with 8x5 or 24x7 Fortinet support. Support contracts can
also be purchased individually as needed.

Appendix A – Troubleshooting FAQ’s
1- What is the difference between the standard Fortigate 50B (RT-50F) and the Pakedge preconfigured version
(RT-50S)?
- The Fortigate-50B with the Pakedge precongured version comes with a separate GUI and logon from
the full Fortinet version. The separate Pakedge logon is limited to a basic set of options to get the network
up and running. This allows the powerful Fortigate router/security appliance to be installed in any home
without formal training.
2 - Who provides support for the Fortigate Pakedge preconfigured version (RT-50S)?
- Pakedge provides the basic support for the Pakedge preconfiguration. If an integrator wants to do any
conguration beyond Pakedge’s preconguration and needs support- They would have to get it through
Fortinet.
3 - Why doesn’t Pakedge provide support for the Fortigate Default Conguration (RT-50S)?
- The Fortigate-50B is a very powerful product which will support many configurations at a very granular level. As a result, configuration is not as intuitive as the low end routers and education is needed to understand and configure fully. The Pakedge preconfigured version is designed only to support set
congurations to make conguring the router straight forward and simple. Fortinet is better equipped to
support configurations beyond the basic residential application.

Page 32
Appendix A – Troubleshooting FAQ’s (continued)
4 - What is the RB-KIT and what are the advantages of purchasing the product this way?
- The RB-KIT comprises of the RT-50S router/security application, and all a rack mount hardware to install into a AV rack. The kit contains everything an installer needs to quickly congure a powerful EnterpriseClass Router/Security Appliance into any home.
5 - Do I need to purchase antivirus for my router to work?
- The router will work without an anti-virus subscription, however the router will not be used to its design potential and malware could potentially penetrate the perimeter into your network. With a subscription, the router will automatically receive the latest virus definitions for full perimeter network protection for as long as the subscription is active
6 - Can I only purchase antivirus without Fortinet support?
- No, support is automatically included from Fortinet when antivirus is purchased.
7 - What is 8x5 support?
- This is support only by email- No phone. Email are only answered from 8am to 5pm, PST.
