PAG VBPC-200
Vehicle Battery Power Converter 12V 200W
Model 9775
GENERAL INFORMATION
This small, lightweight, economic unit converts the vehicle’s 12 volt battery output to 300 volts DC, and is ideal for powering equipment employing switch-mode power conversion techniques.
The unit provides a powerful 200 watts continuous output and allows short term use up to 250 watts. This power is sufficient to run RMC4X rack-mountable chargers, 12V AR Series chargers and the integral chargers of all Pagbelts.
The unit is fitted with a plug for direct connection to the vehicle’s cigar lighter socket. An amber LED indicates connection to the vehicle battery. To turn the unit off, simply disconnect it from the cigar lighter socket. (The vehicle cigar lighter socket and wiring harness must be capable of carrying a minimum current of 20 amps).
The unit incorporates an audible warning system which operates when the vehicle battery needs to be boosted by starting the vehicle’s engine. However, if the vehicle’s engine is not started and the battery voltage continues to fall, the unit will switch-off (latch out), leaving enough power to start the vehicle. Unplugging the unit will reset the latch. Then, after boosting the vehicle battery, reconnect the unit.
This unit is only suitable for use with vehicles having the negative of the battery connected to the chassis - ‘negative earth’.
SUITABILITY
The output of the unit is only suitable for equipment employing switch-mode power conversion, and is not to be used with equipment that incorporates a primary mains transformer.
DISREGARD OF THIS CAUTION COULD RESULT IN DAMAGE TO CERTAIN EQUIPMENT TYPES.
Note that a simple test may be done to determine the compatibility of equipment to be used with the unit. Using a meter, measure the resistance between the live and negative pin of the equipment’s mains plug. With its switch on a resistance reading of greater than 10,000 ohms indicates that the input circuit is suitable for use with the Vehicle Battery-Power Converter, provided that its load does not exceed 200 watts. If in doubt consult your PAG Dealer or a qualified electrical engineer.
CONNECTION
Plug the unit into the vehicle cigar lighter socket, using the cable mounted plug. Power is then available on the standard IEC output lead.
Unplug the unit when not in use, otherwise it will continue to draw current, slowly discharging the battery.
SPECIFICATION
Output: 300V DC, power available is 200 watts maximum, with 250W short term capability.
In use the unit draws about 1 amp from the battery for every 10 watts of actual load applied.
SELF PROTECTION SYSTEM
If overloaded the unit will switch-off (latchout), requiring momentary disconnection from the vehicle battery/ cigar socket to reset.
SAFETY INFORMATION WARNING: This unit produces a very high DC
voltage level. To ensure continued safety you MUST adhere to the following instructions:
Never extend or tamper with the input or output leads.
DO NOT OPEN THE UNIT TO INVESTIGATE MALFUNCTION. Sufficient energy may remain
stored in the unit to cause SERIOUS INJURY up to 30 minutes after it has been disconnected from the vehicle battery. Lack of output is not an indication of safety.
Connecting a load does not discharge the internal circuits.
OPERATIONAL INFORMATION
It is advisable to run your vehicle engine occasionally if an extended period of use is required.
The unit incorporates an audible warning system which operates when battery voltage falls below 11 volts, with a safety low voltage latch-out at 10 volts. This will leave enough power in the battery to start the vehicle.
When positioning the unit ensure that there is no tension on the input lead.
Do not cover the unit as it retains heat if used at high power for an extended period.
Never leave the unit connected when not in use. If you do it will continue to draw current, slowly discharging the battery.
Never use with any appliance rated above 200W.
TAMPERING WITH THE UNIT WILL INVALIDATE THE WARRANTY.
Always use with equipment satisfying international safety standards. Treat the output with the same caution as a 13A mains socket.
Consult your PAG Dealer or a qualified electrical engineer if in doubt about any proposed permanent installation.
CAUTION: THIS UNIT IS FOR IN-VEHICLE USE ONLY. PROTECT FROM MOISTURE.
Every time you use the unit or any electrical appliance, check that all connections and screws etc. are tight, and that there is no damage to wire insulation. Make sure that cables do not chafe on sharp objects.
