Please read these instructions prior to using your Ozflame™bio-fuel fireplace
Warnings
Bio-fuel (Methylated Spirits) is highly inflammable.
Handle the fuel with extreme caution and follow all instructions carefully.
If possible, fill your burner in an outside location where spillage will not be a hazard. Always use a funnel to prevent spillage. An Ozflame™ model OZF 550 funnel is recommended. In the event of spillage, wipe up all spilt fuel and allow time for any excess fuel to evaporate before lighting.
Only use bio-fuel (methylated spirits) in your burner. Store your bio-fuel in a safe, ventilated, dry area away from the fire and out of reach of children. Never smoke near burner or fireplace. Do not put any foreign objects in the fireplace particularly cigarette butts. Always store bio-fuel in a sealed container designed for this purpose.
Do not ingest bio-fuel. If ingested or splashed in eyes, seek immediate medical attention. If fuel is spilt on skin, wash off with soapy water.
First aid – For advice contact a doctor or Poisons information centre Australia phone 0800 764 766
Do not add fuel while the fire is lit or the fire box is hot and allow
at least 30 minutes
before adding fuel. Never move the fire box or fireplace while the fire is lit. Do not smoke while handling the fuel.
When lit, the fire box and surrounding area of the fireplace will be hot. Do not touch these areas while fire is lit or for 30 minutes or more after the fire is extinguished. Also note that when first lit or the fuel is running low the flame may not be easily visible and caution is required.

Children, animals and infirm persons should not be left unattended near the fireplace when lit. Only adults who have read instructions and are familiar with procedures should add fuel or light or extinguish the fire.
Never place the burner or fireplace near flammable objects such as clothing, curtains etc, or other flammable materials etc. The following clearances are recommended – 1 metre from any fabric (curtains etc) or flammable material, 1.5 metres from ceilings, 40 cm from walls (unless fireplace is designed to go against a wall or is wall mounted). Models OZF100 & OZF105 are designed for free-standing, indoor applications and can be located against a wall.
As the fireplace consumes oxygen, there is a danger of suffocation, so the fireplace should be located in a suitably sized room with adequate oxygen supply and fresh air. The first signs of lack of oxygen are sudden fatigue and an impaired ability to concentrate.

It is important that there is adequate ventilation while the fireplace is in operation. It is recommended that either an outside window is left slightly open or a door to an adjacent area is left ajar whilst the fireplace is operating.
When used in outdoor or high draft locations, the flame will become more erratic and extra caution should be taken. Under these circumstances a greater clearance area may be required. Also note fuel consumption will be higher. Never blow onto the naked flames.
A fire extinguisher and safety fire blanket should be kept close at hand for emergency use, if required. In the event a fire occurs, alcohol resistant foam or carbon dioxide are suitable extinguishing agents. Do not use water to put out the flames.
Fireplace location
Depending on your Ozflame™ model, the fireplace should be located in an appropriate position where the fire will operate safely. Do not locate the fireplace near flammable materials such as curtains. Read the warning section and allow the appropriate recommended clearances. Indoor models can be operated in undercover outdoor locations but should not be left outdoors. Outdoor models should be kept undercover when not in use. Your fireplace should be operated in a well ventilated space at all times. Do not leave your fireplace unattended at any time.

Fuel
Only Bio ethanol (methylated spirits) with at least 95% alcohol content should be used. The container should be marked with the international standard “Ethanol Solution UN 1170”. This can be purchased from hardware stores, supermarkets etc in one, four and twenty litre containers. The one litre containers are the easiest to use.
FIRST AID
– For advice, contact a doctor or poisons information centre
(Australia phone 0800 764 766).
Filling the burner
We recommend that you remove the burner from the fireplace and fill it outdoors, to reduce any spillage hazard. Fill the burner in the fireplace using a funnel. We recommend you use an Ozflame™ funnel which is purpose designed to fit in all burner models and will make filling much easier and safer. The funnel can be purchased as an accessory code OZF 550
Important:
• Fill the burner to a minimum of 1/3 capacity and a maximum of 2/3 full.
• Do not completely fill the burner.
• Do not fill the burner while it is still hot.
• Clean up all spillage before lighting.

Lighting the burner
Dip the slider handle into the fuel in the burner, remove it from the burner and holding it at arms length, light the fuel on the handle, then lower it into the burner.
Do not position your face or
body above the burner when lighting. Do not light the burner directly with a cigarette lighter or
equivalent device.
We recommend you burn all the fuel in the burner rather than close the slider before all fuel is used. Fuel level must be a minimum of 1/3 full before lighting.
For models with glass fitted on 4 sides, we recommend removing the front piece of glass while lighting the flame to make it an easier and safer process. Add the piece of glass to the front of the fireplace immediately after lighting the burner. After initial lighting of the burner, the flame may start as a small, blue flame, however within several minutes it will increase to normal size and colour.

Flame regulation and turning off
All models have a slide on the burner which can be opened or closed with the handle provided. The slide will allow you to regulate the flame height which will also regulate fuel consumption. As with lighting the fire, always operate the slide at arms length and do not position your head or body over the burner.
Once the flame is out, do not open the burner for at least 30 minutes and do not attempt to refill the burner until it has cooled down to room temperature.
Ideally allow the fuel to completely burn out and in this case it is not necessary to close the burner when the flame is out. After several hours of burning, the burner slide may expand and become slightly stiff to close. In this case, push the slide firmly and quickly and it will extinguish the flame. Make sure there are no flames around the edges of the slide. If this occurs, push the slide firmly and quickly closed again to extinguish all flames.
Maintenance
A small amount of carbon may form on the burner and this can be wiped off with a damp cloth. The stainless steel burner and other stainless steel components should be cleaned with a good quality stainless steel cleaning product such as 3M spray-on stainless steel cleaner. Note: after some use, the heat generated by the flame may cause some discolouration of the stainless steel burner. If your fireplace includes glass use a glass cleaner such as Windex. For the OZF 100 series fireplaces that have a gloss enamel paint finish, use a good quality furniture polish such as Mr Sheen.
To turn off the flame, close the slide completely using the handle provided.
