Eseguire i cablaggi seguendo SEMPRE le prescrizioni previste.

· Collegare l’apparecchio verificando SEMPRE il contatto di messa

a terra come richiesto dalle normative.

· Se il cavo di collegamento originale presentasse segni di usura o di

deterioramento, sostituirlo con uno analogo.

· Controllare che la tensione di alimentazione corrisponda a quella

selezionata sul pannello connessioni.

· Eseguire i collegamenti in modo ordinato, limitarne l'accesso o

l'avvicinamento solo al personale addetto.

· Accendere l’apparecchio solo dopo aver connesso ed acceso tutti

gli altri componenti dell'impianto di sonorizzazione/registrazione
per evitare rumori fastidiosi e talvolta dannosi per gli
altoparlanti.

· La movimentazione dell’apparecchio deve avvenire solo a cavi

scollegati.

· Per l’installazione utilizzare solo gli accessori dedicati, progettati

appositamente per il sistema o gli accessori standard previsti.

· Controllare periodicamente la funzionalità meccanica del

prodotto e degli accessori utilizzati.

· L’apparecchio produce un’elevata pressione sonora che può

danneggiare l’udito se l’ascolto non avviene nelle corrette
condizioni di utilizzo.

· L’apparecchio non deve essere aperto e/o riparato se non da

personale competente.

· Per qualsiasi esigenza o informazione di natura tecnica rivolgersi

ad OUTLINE o a personale autorizzato.

· Do not expose the unit to rain and don’t use it in locations

with a high humidity level.

· Do not allow any type of liquid or solid object to enter the

unit; should this occur, stop using the unit and contact
OUTLINE or specialist staff.

· The mains power cable is supplied without a plug, to enable

it to be connected according to current standards in the
country of use, or according to the requirements of the
specific situation. ALWAYS carry out connections following
the correct procedure.

· When connecting the unit, ALWAYS check ground connection

as required by technical and safety norms.

· If the original cable is worn or damaged, it must be replaced

with another of the same type (in perfect condition).

· Make sure that the supply voltage corresponds to the

selected value on the panel connections

· Carry out connections in an orderly fashion, only allowing

access to this procedure to expert staff.

· The unit must only be switched on after having connected

and switched on all the other components of the sound
reinforcement/recording system, to avoid annoying noises
that can sometimes damage the loudspeakers.

· The unit must only be moved when the cables are

disconnected.

· Only dedicated accessories, specifically designed for the

system, or any standard accessories foreseen may be used
when installing.

· The mechanical operation of the product and the accessories

used must be checked periodically.

· This unit produces high sound pressure levels that can

damage hearing if listened to under incorrect conditions.

· The unit must only be opened and/or repaired by specialist

staff.

· For any requirements of a technical nature, contact OUTLINE

or authorized staff.

Features

Ÿ Very low-profile (35 cm.), high output (140 dB peak SPL@

1 m) monitor with two 12” woofers (LF) Neodymium
magnet and a (HF) compression driver with reflective
folded wave guide loaded ferro fluid cooled 3” titanium

La casse acustiche della iSM Series Outline sono diffusori
amplificati due vie a larga banda con DSP, una sezione
amplificazione ad elevata efficienza, ottimizzate per essere
utilizzate come monitor da palco.

La sezione bassi utilizza woofer con il magnete al neodimio in
con f igu r azio n e “re f lex ” ( 1 x12 " /1x 1 5"/ 2 x12" p e r
iSM112/115/212)
La sezione alti è composta da un driver a compressione al
Neodimio con gola da 1.41” e membrana da 3” caricato da una
guida d'onda a riflessione ripiegata.

Questa guida d’onda è parte integrale del cabinet e consente il
controllo, per l’intero spetro riprodotto, delle emissioni
acustiche in un angolo ben definito sul piano verticale e
orizzontale, con dimensioni molto compatte rispetto alle sue
prestazioni acustiche.
Questa innovazione (brevettata) permette di ottenere
un’ottima larghezza di banda riproducibile.
Posizionati sul pavimento, i diffusori di questa serie hanno
un’elevata sensibilità media. Spinti alla massima potenza di
picco, i sistemi producono un picco massimo di 132/137/140
dBSPL a 1 metro (iSM112/115/212).

Il processore DSP di cui i diffusori sono dotati utilizza la
tecnologia Outline iMode.
iMode è una piattaforma “intelligente” per il controllo digitale
degli altoparlanti che unisce elaborazione avanzata del segnale
digitale e il protocollo TCP/IP per fornire complete funzionalità
di controllo.
iMode utilizza il sistema operativo Linux con un kernel
personalizzato Outline, scelto per la sua estrema stabilità e
compatibilità, che garantisce una solida base per le funzioni
avanzate di iMode.
Può essere controllato in rete (Ethernet) tramite protocollo
TCP/IP mediante un comune web browser che supporti le
applicazioni . Questo consente all’utente di controllare i
parametri del DSP come livelli, filtri shelving, equalizzazioni e
ritardi e di selezionare una delle 4 configurazioni, di cui 3
modificabili.
Sull’Apple Store è disponibile l’applicazione che consente il
controllo totale dei singoli diffusori (compresi i VU-Meter,
selezione del preset, clip e stato del limiter, surriscaldamento
e protezione dell'amplificatore) e la gestione a gruppi di più
diffusori.

Il cabinet ha una forma asimmetrica con doppio angolo di
inclinazione per posizionamento a pavimento o sospensione.
Costruito in betulla del Baltico spessore 15 mm, le sue
dimensioni esterne sono estremamente compatte, in
particolare l’altezza dal pavimento (solo 35.5/39.5/32.5 cm
per iSM112/115/212) riducendo considerevolmente l’impatto
visivo quando viene posizionato sul palco, pronto per l’uso.
La finitura esterna è nera, eseguita con vernice di alta qualità
resistente ai graffi e all’acqua.
Il cabinet è dotato di 8 punti di fissaggio e di due pratiche
maniglie incassate che assicurano un’ottima presa durante la
movimentazione. La griglia di protezione frontale è in acciaio

The Outline iSM are two-way self-powered broadband
loudspeakers, with an integrated DSP and a high-efficiency
amplifier, optimized to be used as stage monitor.

The low frequency section features reflex loaded neodymium
woofer(s) (1x12"/1x15"/2x12" for iSM112/115/212).

The high frequency section is composed by a Neodymium
compression driver (1.41” throat and 3” diaphragm) loaded by
a folded waveguide.

This wave guide is an integral part of the cabinet and
enables the control, over the entire spectrum reproduced,
of the acoustic emission in a clearly defined angle on the
horizontal and vertical plane, with very compact
dimensions compared to its acoustic performance.

This innovation (patented) allows to obtain an optimal
useable bandwidth reproduced.
Placed on the floor, the systems have high average wide­range sensitivity. Driven at maximum peak power, they are
able to produce a maximum peak of 132/137/140 dB SPL at
1 metre .
The internal DSP processor is based on the Outline iMode
technology.
iMode is an

iMode is based on an Outline customized kernel Linux operative
system, chosen for its extreme stability and compatibility, is
able to ensure a solid base for all the advanced iMode
functions.
The system, being based on the TCP/IP protocol, can be
network-controlled via Ethernet using any web browser
supporting Java® applications. This enables the control of all
the DSP parameters, such as levels, shelving filters,
equalizations, delay and the selection of one of the four preset,
three of which are adjustable by the user.
Via the iPad and iPhone application, available from the App
Store, is possible to have the complete control over the single
loudspeaker (VU-Meters, preset selection, clip and limiter
status, overheating and amplifier protection), as well as the
management of groups of loudspeaker.
The enclosure has an asymmetric design with dual floor or
flying installation angle. Built in high quality 15 mm Baltic
birch plywood, the external dimensions are extremely
compact, particularly the height from the floor (just

35.5/39.5/32.5 cm for iSM112/115/212), considerably
reducing the visual impact when the enclosure is positioned
on stage ready for use.
The black outer finish is in high quality scratch-resistant
waterproof black paint.
The cabinet has 8 mounting points and two practical
integral recessed handles on the cabinet ensure a positive
grip during handling.
The front grille, which protects the speakers, is vibration­free painted steel mesh.

“intelligent” platform for the digital control of the
loudspeaker, its main feature is to combine advanced signal
processing with TCP/IP protocol, in order to give complete
control functions.

1) SEZIONE PRESET

SEGNALAZIONI

Mediante la pressione del pulsante centrale è possibile
scegliere una delle configurazioni memorizzate.
La prima configurazione (FACTORY) non è modificabile e
contiene i parametri impostati di default.
Le altre 3 configurazioni (PRESET 1, 2, 3) sono modificabili
dall’utente mediante l’apposito software di controllo
fornito in bundle con l’apparecchio.
Vedere l’apposita sezione del manuale per maggiori dettagli.

LIMIT: L’illuminazione di questo Led indica il
raggiungimento della massima potenza erogabile e la
conseguente saturazione del segnale. Il modulo di
amplificazione è dotato di un circuito di clip limiter per
minimizzare gli effetti della saturazione.
INPUT OVL: L’illuminzione di questo Led indica la presenza
in ingresso di un segnale troppo elevato. E’ necessario
abbassare il livello del segnale per evitare distorsioni.
SIGNAL: l’illuminzione di questo Led indica la presenza di
segnale in ingresso.
TEMP: l’illuminazione di questo Led indica il
raggiungimento di una temperatura elevata del modulo di
amplificazione. L’utilizzo prolungato dell’apparecchiatura

1) PRESET SECTION

SIGNALLING

By pushing the push button it is possible to choose one of
stored configuration.
The first preset (FACTORY) is unmodifiable and contains the
default parameters for flat equalization.
The other 3 configurations (PRESET 1, 2, 3) can be modified
by the user with the control software bundled with the unit.
See specific section of this manual for more details.

LIMIT: Lighting of this Led indicates the achievement
of maximum power granted and the resulting
saturation of the signal. The amplification module is
equipped with a clip limiter circuit to minimize the
saturation effects.
INPUT OVL: Lighting of this Led indicates that the input
signal is too high. It is necessary to lower the input level, in
order to avoid distortions.
SIGNAL: Lighting of this Led indicates the presence of input
signal.
TEMP: Lighting of this Led indicates the achievement of a
high temperature of amplification module. The prolonged
use of device in these conditions causes the intervention of

Nel caso in cui il sistema venga utilizzato all’aperto predisporre
una adeguata protezione nel caso di pioggia.

I diffusori della iSM Series Outline sono equipaggiati con un
cavo a 3 conduttori; Il filo gialloverde del cavo rete deve
sempre essere connesso a terra (ground). Ciò si richiede anche
in caso di prolungamento del cavo, adattamento a prese
esistenti, riduzioni, etc.
Questo è essenziale sia per la sicurezza che per il corretto
funzionamento del sistema. All’interno del modulo di
amplificazione il filo giallo-verde è connesso al pannello di
metallo.

ATTENZIONE! QUESTO APPARECCHIO DEVE ESSERE SEMPRE
CONNESSO A TERRA.

Per facilitare i cablaggi è presente sul pannello laterale un
connettore (MAINS OUT) che consente di prelevare la tensione
per alimentare un secondo diffusore. Non collegare più di due

diffusori iSM Series Outline in cascata.

I diffusori della iSM Series Outline sono dotati di un selettore
(VOLTAGE) che consente di selezionare la giusta tensione di
alimentazione. Nel caso in cui questa venga variata, è
necessario sostituire il fusibile di protezione accessibile dal
pannello laterale (FUSE).

I diffusori della iSM Series Outline sono dotati di un ingresso
bilanciato elettronicamente che utilizza un connettore di tipo
XLR femmina (INPUT SIGNAL). Per facilitare la connessione di
altri sistemi con lo stesso segnale di ingresso è disponibile un
connettore XLR maschio (LINK) collegato internamente in
parallelo al connettore XLR femmina.
Per i segnali non bilanciati utilizzare i pin HOT (segnale in fase)
e GND (massa).

Disalimentare sempre il dispositivo prima di eseguire
cambiamenti nei collegamenti.

Outline iSM Series loudspeakers are supplied with a 3­conductor cable; the Green-and-Yellow wire of the mains cord
must always be connected to an installation Safety Earth or
Ground. This is necessary even in case of cable extension,
adjustment to existent mains outlet etc.
The Earth is essential for personal safety as well as the correct
operation of the system, and is internally connected to all
exposed metal surfaces.

To facilitate the wiring there is a connector (MAINS OUT), on
the side panel which allows you to take the voltage to power a
second loudspeaker. Do not connect more than two cascaded

Outline iSM Series loudspeakers.

Outline iSM Series loudspeakers have a selector (VOLTAGE),
which allows you to select the correct supply voltage. Where
this is varied, it is necessary to replace the protection fuse,
accessible from the side panel (FUSE).

Outline iSM Series loudspeakers have a electronically
balanced input and use a XLR female connector (INPUT
SIGNAL). To facilitate the connection of other systems
with the same input signal there is a XLR male
connector (LINK) internally connected in parallel to XLR
female connector.
For unbalanced signals use pins HOT (signal phase) and GND
(ground).

Disconnect the device from the mains power supply before
changing the connections.

PRESETS

COMPUTER, iPAD AND iPHONE CONNECTION

SOFTWARE

NETWORK SETUP

The amplification module integrated into Outline iSM
Series has a DSP and can store four configurations of
equalization, gain and delay.
The first configuration (FACTORY) is a flat equalization and can
not be changed by the user. The other three configurations
(PRESET 1, PRESET 2, PRESET 3) are editable by using the
special control software.

The choice of the various configurations is done by
pressing PRESET on the lateral panels of loudspeaker or
via the control software. The selected configuration is
shown by the corresponding LED

The connection to the PC must be made through the network
(ETHERNET) with RJ45 connector, using standard cat 5 network
cables.
The connection to the iPad or iPhone requires the construction
of a wireless network. Therefore, it will be necessary to use a
wireless router (not included), that can also work as a DHCP
server (see the “Network setup” paragraph for more
information).

®

Outline iSM Series loudspeakers use the UDP (User
Datagram Protocol) network protocol, according to
standard RFC 768.

All the loudspeakers and the computers connected to the same
local network communicate via IP addresses. The basic rules of
this addressing are presented here:

Ÿ each device has to have an assigned IP address;
Ÿ the IP addresses must be unique (no duplicates);
Ÿ all the IP addresses have to belong to the same subnet.

If the loudspeaker has the following network settings:

IP: 192.168.1.34
SUBNET MASK: 255.255.255.0

In order to have the communication between the computer and
the iSM series loudspeaker, the PC has to have a different IP
address belonging to the same subnet. In this case, one possible
network address for PC is:

IP: 192.168.1.10
SUBNET MASK: 255.255.255.0

The IP addresses can be assigned manually or automatically
(DHCP).The iMode devices are supplied, as standard, with the
DHCP option enabled.

In case of use with a personal computer, no special software is
required, but just a web browser that is supporting Java . To
communicate with the loudspeaker, start the web browser and
write the iSM’s IP address in the address bar.

The application for the iPhone and iPad is available on the Apple
Store. With this application is possible to have the total control
over each single loudspeaker or groups. After searching the
loudspeakers on the network, it is possible to monitor and
control all the devices at the same time, in a really friendly and
immediate way.

CONFIGURAZIONE DELLA RETE

Il modulo di amplificazione integrato nella casse iSM Series è
dotato di DSP interno che consente di memorizzare quattro
configurazioni di equalizzazioni, livello e delay. La prima
configurazione (FACTORY) è un’equalizzazione piatta e non può
essere modificata dall’utente. Le altre tre configurazioni
(PRESET 1, PRESET 2, PRESET 3) sono modificabili dall’utente
mediante l’apposito software di controllo.

La scelta delle varie configurazioni viene effettuata mediante
la pressione del tasto PRESET sui pannelli laterali della cassa o
tramite il software di controllo. La configurazione selezionata
è indicata dall’accensione del Led corrispondente.

Il collegamento con il computer deve essere effettuato
mediante la rete ETHERNET (presa Rj45), utilizzando normali
cavi di rete CAT 5.
Il collegamento ad un iPad o iPhone avviene tramite la
costruzione di una rete wireless. Sarà quindi indispensabile
utilizzare un router wireless (non fornito), che sia in grado di
funzionare anche come DHCP server (vedi il paragrafo
“Configurazione della rete”).

Nel caso di utilizzo con personal computer non è necessario
installare alcun software. E’ sufficiente utilizzare un comune
web browser che supporti le applicazioni Java®. Per
comunicare con il diffusore aprire il web browser e digitare
l’inidirizzo IP della cassa nella barra degli indirizzi.

Sull’Apple Store è disponibile l’applicazione che consente il
controllo totale e la gestione a gruppi dei diffusori tramite iPad
o iPhone. Dopo aver eseguito la ricerca è possibile monitorare e
controllare contemporaneamente più diffusori, in maniera
intuitiva e immediata.

Le casse della iSM Series Outline utilizzano un protocollo di rete
di tipo UDP (User Datagram Protocol), conforme allo standard
RFC 768.

Tutte le casse e i computer connessi in una rete locale
comunicano tramite indirizzi IP. Perchè tutto funzioni é
necessario che:

Ÿ a ciascun dispositivo sia assegnato un indirizzo IP;
Ÿ non esistano indirizzi IP duplicati;
Ÿ tutti gli indirizzi IP appartengano alla stessa sottorete.

Ad esempio, se il diffusore ha le seguenti impostazioni di rete:

IP: 192.168.1.34
SUBNET MASK: 255.255.255.0

Per far sì che il computer possa comunicare con le casse della
serie iSM, è necessario che il PC abbia un indirizzo IP diverso,
ma che appartenga alla stessa sottorete. In base all’esempio
proposto una possibile configurazione di rete per il computer é
la seguente:

IP: 192.168.1.10
SUBNET MASK: 255.255.255.0

Questi indirizzi IP possono essere assegnati manualmente o
automaticamente (DHCP). I diffusori iMode vengono forniti, di
fabbrica, con l'opzione DHCP abilitata.

DHCP means "Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol". If this
option is enabled, the devices are waiting for a valid IP address
from a DHCP server (usually implemented in any wireless
router) for about one minute. It is strongly suggested to switch
on the router before any iSM device.

If the DHCP is not available or if you do not know the IP
address manually assigned to the loudspeaker, you can
restore the default address (192.168.1.34) by switching
on the system holding down the Preset button (point 1,
page 6.). The restored default address is active only up to
the shutdown of the system, but can be modified by
software.

In this case you can communicate with the loudspeaker,
connecting it directly to your computer via a CAT5 network
cable. The computer has to have a manual IP address, in order
to respect the rules described in the “Network Setup”
paragraph (i.e. 192.168.1.2).

The minimum wireless router set-up requires:

Ÿ at least one LAN port for connection to the iMode device;
Ÿ DHCP server enabled;
Ÿ wireless Network enabled (for the communication with

iPad, iPhone and wireless computers).

It is strongly suggested, from the first use, to change the router
administrator password and to modify the wireless name and
choose a security password (WPA2). Please store these data,
they will be useful in the future both to access to the net and to
set it up. The Computer and the iPad running the control
application have to respect the network communication rules,
so it is suggested to set them as DHCP (Automatic IP) mode.

The ability to control via wireless device dramatically depends
on many factors, such as the position of the wireless antenna
and interferences with other wireless networks. Specifically,
we recommend to:

Ÿ place the access point so that the antenna is visible and

away from obstacles;

Ÿ if many networks are active in the same place (typical case

in trade fairs, large structures or crowded places) use a 5 Ghz
wireless (not supported by iPhone)

To have a deeper control over the wireless performance, many
wifi analyzer for computers, tablets and phones are available
on the web.

TROUBLESHOOTING

WIRELESS ROUTER BASIC SETTINGS

DHCP significa "Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol". Con
questa opzione abilitata i dispositivi attendono l'assegnazione
di un indirizzo IP valido da un server DHCP (di solito
implementato in un router wireless) per circa un minuto. È
estremamente consigliato accendere il router prima di ogni
dispositivo iSM .

Nel caso in cui non si disponga di un DHCP server o non si
conosca l’indirizzo IP assegnato manualmente alla cassa è
possibile ripristinare l’indirizzo di default (192.168.1.34)
accendendo il sistema tenendo premuto il tasto Preset
(punto 1, pag. 6). L’indirizzo così ripristinato rimane attivo
solo fino allo spegnimento dell’apparecchio, ma può essere
modificato da software.

In questo caso è possibile comunicare con la cassa,
connettendola direttamente al computer con un normale cavo
di rete CAT5. Il computer deve avere un indirizzo IP manuale
che rispetti le regole descritte al paragrafo “Configurazione
della rete” (ad esempio: 192.168.1.2).

Il router wireless deve avere le seguenti caratterisitche:

Ÿ almeno una porta LAN per la connessione con le casse iSM;
Ÿ DHCP server abilitato;
Ÿ rete wireless abilitata (per la comunicazione con iPad,

iPhone e computer wireless).

Si consiglia, dal primo uso, di cambiare la password di
amministratore del router, modificare il nome della rete
wireless e selezionare una password di accesso (WPA2). Queste
informazioni dovranno essere salvate, in quanto saranno utili
per l’accesso alla rete e per impostare il router. Il computer e
l’iPad che saranno utilizzati per il controllo devono rispettare
le regole di comunicazione di rete, quindi si consiglia di
impostarli come DHCP (ottieni automaticamente indirizzo IP).

Le capacità di controllo tramite dispositivi senza cavo
dipendono drasticamente da numerosi fattori, quali il
posizionamento dell’antenna e l’interferenza con altre reti
wireless. Nello specifico si consiglia di:

Ÿ posizionare l’access point in modo tale che l’antenna sia

visibile e lontana da ostacoli;

Ÿ se sono attive altri network (come in fiere, grandi strutture

o luoghi affollati) usare reti wireless a 5 Ghz (non supportato da
iPhone).

Per avere un controllo migliore sulle prestazioni della rete
senza fili, molti analizzatori wifi per computer, tablet e
telefoni sono disponibili sul web.
