Fitting Instructions &
Routine Collar Care
Daily cleaning of the patient’s
Miami Jr® and the skin
beneath is an important part
of treatment and will help
prevent skin irritation.
While at home, the patient
should shower or bathe with
the collar on. After bathing,
you will need to remove the
collar to wash their neck and
change the pads.
Cleaning the collar will require
at least one set of replacement
pads.
* Unless otherwise specified by the
patient’s healthcare professional: do not
remove the collar except to wash under
it and change the pads.
Collar Removal
& Skin Care
The patient must be lying down in
neutral alignment to remove the collar
unless their healthcare professional has
given permission to do this in a sitting
position.
1. Undo the straps and slide the Back
of the collar out from under the
neck. Remove the collar Front.
2. Wash the front of neck with mild
facial soap and water and completely
dry the skin. Observe for any
redness or irritation under the
collar, especially over bony areas.
• While the collar is removed, follow
the Collar Care Instructions to clean
the collar and replace the pads.
3. Slide the collar Back carefully
behind the patient’s neck.
Make sure it is centered.
4. Replace the collar Front by flaring
the sides, sliding it up the chest
wall and scooping it up under the
patient’s chin. Secure straps.
5. Place a small pillow or folded towel
under patient’s cheek to prevent the
head from tilting sideways. Gently
roll the patient onto their side.
6. Undo the hook and loop strap on the
top side of the collar. Fold the collar
Back down to clean the back of the
patient’s head and check for redness
or irritation.
Make sure the collar is securely
refastened to the original
position after skin check.

direct orders of the patient’s healthcare
professional.

Collar Care Instructions
• The padding can be removed for cleaning if a
spare set of pads has been supplied.
• Remove the pads from the plastic shells.
• Hand wash the pads with mild soap and water.
DO NOT use harsh detergents or bleach.
• Rinse. Wring out the excess water and
squeeze in towel. Lay flat to air dry.
• Wipe the plastic collar shells clean with mild soap and water.
• Replace pads by attaching the grey side to
the hook on the inside of the collar.
• Do not machine wash, do not tumble dry.
