Installation Instructions

The SYLVANIA LED ULTRA RT6 Gimbal recessed kit is designed to install in standard 6” insulated and
non-insulated recessed downlight housings. For a list of compatible housings, please refer to
www.SYLVANIA.com/RT6.

The LED ULTRA RT6 Gimbal recessed kit can be dimmed, however updates on dimmer technology
and special conditions may apply depending on dimmer type being used. To be assured of the
latest information regarding recessed kit and dimmer compatibility, please reference
www.SYLVANIA.com/RT6 to find the latest list of compatible dimmers when using multiple
ULTRA RT6 recessed kits.

This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC rules and has been tested and found to comply with
the limits for a Class A digital device. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection
against harmful interference in a residential installation. This equipment generates, uses, and can
radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions,
may cause harmful interference to radio communications.

Note: It may be necessary to remove a socket mounting plate for adequate clearance in the compatible
housing. Each lampholder shall be installed only in its intended manner and orientation. Not all existing
recessed housings that meet this requirement will be compatible with the SYLVANIA ULTRA RT6. To ensure
compatibility, a test installation should be conducted.

Minimum distance between edge of recessed kit and top of the housing or other obstruction. (figure 1)

How to install

Important safety information - read all instructions before installation.

• Risk of electrical shock. Disconnect power at fuse or circuit breaker before installing or servicing.

• To prevent early lamp failure, lamp should only be installed in operating environments ranging between
0°C and +35°C (32°F and +95°F).

• To prevent overheating do not install in totally enclosed recessed fixtures.

• No user serviceable parts inside. To avoid electrical shock do not disassemble product.

• This product is not intended for use in emergency light fixtures or exit signs. Not for use where
exposed directly to the weather or water. This product must be installed per all applicable codes such as
NEC Article 410 Section D:
Bathtub and Shower Areas:
No parts of cord connected luminaires (fixtures), chain-, cable-, or cord suspended-luminaires (fixtures),
lighting track, pendants, or ceiling-suspended (paddle) fans shall be located within a zone measured 900
mm (3 ft) horizontally and 2.5 m (8 ft) vertically from the top of the bathtub rim or shower stall threshold:
This zone is all encompassing and includes the zone directly over the tub or shower stall.
Luminaires (lighting fixtures) located in this zone shall be listed for damp locations or listed for wet
locations where subject to shower spray.

• This product contains a chemical known to the state of California to cause cancer, birth defects or
other reproductive harm.

• Risk of fire or electrical shock. Install this kit only in luminaires that have the construction features
and dimensions shown in the photographs and/or drawings.

• Do not make or alter any open holes in an enclosure of wiring or electrical components during
kit installation.

• To prevent wiring damage or abrasion, do not expose wiring to edges of sheet metal or other
sharp objects.

• Turn power off before inspection, installation or removal.

• The lamp is suitable for use in damp locations. Use only on 120 VAC, 60Hz circuits.

Step 1: Make sure the power is turned off at the source to the recessed housing(s) that you are installing the
fixture(s) in. Remove existing trim and CFL, or Incandescent bulbs.

Step 2: Unscrew the screws on socket bracket, push bracket upward to the top location. Remove existing socket
mounting plate from the recessed housing and then remove lamp socket from the plate.

Step 3: Screw Edison base adapter into
socket in recessed housing.

Step 4: Measure housing internal diameter
and adjust spring clip position in order to
achieve a tight fit inside the housing.

Step 5: Plug Edison base cable connector
into the LED recessed kit.

Step 6: Carefully route wires into fixture.

Note : Before recessed kit insertion, make
sure to properly orient kit toward the surface
to be illuminated.

Step 7: Push recessed kit up flush to
ceiling surface.

Gimbal Feature:
The aimable gimbal design provides up to 35° vertical adjustment. Use notch located on the trim to tilt lens.
Use paper clip if necessary.

LED RECESSED DOWNLIGHT KIT LIMITED WARRANTY

OSRAM SYLVANIA Inc. (“OSI”) warrants this LED Recessed Downlight Kit (the “Product”) to be free from defects
in materials and workmanship, and to operate from the date of purchase for a period of five (5) years, subject to
the Terms and Conditions specified below. If the product fails to operate for the specified warranty period, OSI
will, at its option, repair or replace the product with the same or similar product at no charge. LABOR IS NOT
INCLUDED. OSRAM SYLVANIA LTD./LTÉE (“OSL”) provides the same limited warranty for products purchased
in Canada.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS:

This warranty only applies when the product is properly wired and installed and is operated in environmental
conditions within the normal specified operating range of the system (ambient temperature up to 35 degrees
Celsius), all in accordance with the installation instructions included with the product. This warranty excludes
defects or damage caused by any primary side (line voltage) power source problems including, but not limited
to short circuits or severe or repeated power surges. This warranty also excludes failures resulting from acts of
God, fire, vandalism, or civil disturbances. This warranty does not apply to any abnormal use, improper mainte­nance or use in violation of any applicable standard, code or instructions for use in installations including those
contained in the latest National Electrical Code (NEC), the Standards for Safety of Underwriters Laboratory, Inc.
(UL), Standards for the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) or, in Canada, the Canadian Standards
Association (CSA). Any repair, alteration or modification of the product, including replacement of product
components with components of other manufacturers will void the warranty in its entirety.

WARRANTY RETURN PROCESS:

If the product fails to operate for the specified warranty period, contact the SYLVANIA National Customer
Service & Sales Center at 1-800-654-0089; Fax: [phone] (Email for U.S. Purchasers:
[e-mail]; for Canadian Purchasers: [e-mail].) Upon obtaining a
return material authorization number (RMA), the product should be shipped, together with proof of purchase,
freight pre-paid, to the address indicated on the RMA.

For U.S. Purchasers: If the product fails to operate for the specified warranty period, return it, together with
proof of date of purchase, to the retail store where the product was purchased for replacement with the same
or similar product, free of charge. If there are additional questions, please contact OSI’s National Customer

For Canadian Purchasers: Warranty claims can be serviced by calling OSL’s National Customer Service & Sales

indicated on the RMA.

FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE PROCEDURES SHALL VOID THE WARRANTY.

OSI AND OSL RESERVE THE RIGHT TO EXAMINE ALL FAILED PRODUCTS TO VERIFY THE CAUSE OF
FAILURE AND SHALL BE THE SOLE JUDGE AS TO WHETHER A PRODUCT IS DEFECTIVE AND COVERED UNDER
THIS WARRANTY.
