SUSPENSION/BACKPANEL
The expedition s uspension f eatured on all Var iant
Series pac ks consists of an HDPE fr ameshee t and
aluminum peripher al rod t hat works in conjunction with
a ther moformed, contoured snowshed backpanel to
ensure a high level o f comfor t and load transf er with
heav y climbing gear ins ide the pack while also ensuring
minimal snow and ice buildup on the user’s bac k.
REMO VING THE SU SPENSION
The in ternal Variant suspension componen ts can be removed for the alpine minimalis t
looking to shave a bit of weight.
EVA FO AM EXPED ITION HIP BELT
Each Varian t Series pack features a removable/inter changeable EVA foam hipbelt
wit h modifi ed str aight ErgoPull™ closure des igned s peci fi cally for optimal fi t,
comfort and load transfer/stabilit y. Reinfor ced gear loops on eit her side of the
hipbelt allo w for additional gear attachment points .
To remove the hipbelt:
1 Loc ate the ladder lock buckles at tached to the pack ’s backpanel near the
hipbelt and un thread the webbing to allow releas e.
2 W ith one hand grasp the hipbelt fi r mly and slide th e other hand through the slot
bet ween the backpanel and main pack bod y to break the hook and loop closure .
3 Pull t he hipbelt from the slot to remo ve. Rever se this pro cess to reattach
the hipbelt .
ERGOPULL™ HIPBELT CLOSURE
To opera te, loosen t he webbing enough so t hat you can
connect the center buc kle. Grasp the loo se ends of the
webbing on either side and pull in and ac ross evenly wi th
both hands a t the same time.
1 Undo the top poc ket retention straps and flip back the top lid t o gain access t o the
inte rnal backpanel of the pack.
2 Locate the hook and loop backpanel suspension compartment just above the sewn-
in res ervoir sle eve an d pull bac k to expose the HDPE fr ameshee t.
3 Grasp the ex ternal base of the pack with one hand and th e framesheet fir mly with
the ot her and pull to remove the sus pension components from the pack.
When reinsert ing the frame sheet please ens ure that the peripheral aluminum rod is
facing in the opposite direction of the pack's backpanel for proper fit .
EVA FO AM EXPED ITION HA RNESS
The fi xed , cont oured EVA foam harness is de signe d
specifi cally with stability, car ry and comfort in mind. All
sew n seams are away from the bod y and an adjustable
sternum strap w ith rescue whis tle buckle pr ovides
proper torsional stabilit y while r eservoir hose routers
keep h ydration acces sible and at th e read y.
FRON T PANEL COMPRESSION PO CKET
A rein forced fr ont panel compre ssion pocket provides
ext ernal storage and access to crampons and other
items. To tigh ten or loosen the compression pock et,
loca te the cam lock buck les found on ei ther s ide of
the pack near the backpanel and unlock to acce ss the
webbing. Slide the w ebbing through the buckle to the
desired length and re-lock the buck le to hold in place.
WAND/ ICE PRO POCK ETS
Dual side pock ets provide secure st orage and easy
acce ssibilit y to wands, pickets and other longer it ems.
Utilize the side compres sion straps to secure .
HYDRATION
A sew n-in hydration sleeve loca ted on t he inside of the
back panel accepts up to a thr ee liter reser voir while the
back panel hydration exi t port allo ws routing either right
or lef t using the elast icized routing straps on the pack ’s
harness.
Add an O spre y Hydraulics™ 2 or 3 liter hy dration
reserv oir or a Hydraulics™ LT 1. 5 or 2.5 liter h ydration
reserv oir to y our pack for stable, effi cient, on-the-go
water management.

REMO VAB LE TOP POC KET
A fl oating, removable single compartmen t top pocket with internal key clip and
under-lid zippered fabric pocke t keeps of ten neede d items organized and acc essible.
To remove the t op pocket:
1 Undo t he tw o front top pocke t ret ention strap buckles.
2 Undo t he tw o quick r elease buckles conne cting the top pock et to the
pack’s backpanel.
3 Thr ead the center st rap of the top pock et through the se wn-in buckle on the
pack ’s top skir t to remov e. Reverse this process to r e-attach the t op pocket.
INT EGRATED F LAPJAC KET™ CL OSURE SYS TEM
When used without the removable t op pocket , the
Flap Jacket™ lid deploy s to provide main c ompar tment
protection from the elements and top-down
compression to k eep the pack load st able.
To deploy the FlapJacket™, r emov e the top pocket as
desc ribed abov e and deploy the Flap Jack et™ over the
main compar tment using the t op pocket attachmen t
str aps to buckle and cinch int o place. Beneath t he
Flap Jacket™ there is a zipper ed mes h pock et to k eep
smaller items organize d and accessible when the top
pock et is no t being used .
A-FR AME SKI CA RRY
The reinforce d A-frame ski carry loops found near t he
base o f either side of the Variant wor k in conjunc tion
wit h the side compression/retention straps to prov ide
stable, easy to use A-frame ski car ry. Simply slide your
skis tail through the loops unt il the bindings rest on
the loop and use the upper compres sion/retent ion
str ap to secure to the side of the pack.
THRE E POINT HA UL SYSTE M
A three point haul system via dual front and s ingle r ear
rein forced haul loops prov ide simple, secure hauling
capabilit ies. A tta ch your haul rig to the two reinforce d
sew n-in haul loops on the front o f your pack an d the
rein forced grab handle loop on t he back.
TOOL C ARRY
A dual ic e tool holst er with bungee tool tie-off s and lower side release buckles to
ensures secure s torage and quick , one handed access and removal. The ultr a-durable
pick sleeves and axe head straps protec t and fit a wide range of ice tool sh apes .
1 Loc ate the axe head straps on either side of the r einforc ed ice t ool holster and
unclip the buckle.
2 Slide ice tools handles up and pick first, crossing the tool heads thr ough the
rein forced holster and reatt ach the buck le.
3 Loc ate the bungee tool tie-off s on eit her side of the pack's front panel, loosen
wit h the cord lock , route the t ool shaft t hrough the bungee and tighten the cord
lock nesting closure in to the Y-clip to secure. Re verse this process to remove.
