Step 2 – Fitting Your Enigma SED Hard Drive
Enigma SED is available as a Matched Solution or a Bare Drive.
The Matched Solution is designed to provide you with the easiest way to replace your existing hard drive. The Enigma SED hard drive is pre-mounted in the correct fitting bracket required for your make and model of computer, allowing a direct swap with your existing hard drive.
If you have purchased the Bare Drive version you will need to remove the fitting bracket from your existing hard drive and attach it to the Enigma SED hard drive before you can fit the Enigma SED into your computer.
Fitting the Enigma SED hard drive in your computer requires the removal of your existing hard drive and replacing it with the Enigma SED hard drive. Each computer system will have a different series of steps for replacing the existing hard drive.
Due to the number of systems that Enigma SED supports, it is not possible for us to provide detailed instructions on how to replace your hard drive in this manual. However, if you are not already familiar with the steps required for your system you can usually find detailed instructions in your computer user manual.
If are not able to locate the User Manual for your computer you may be able to view it on the manufacturer’s website. Below are links to manufacturers websites where you can search for the User Manual relating to your system: -
• Dell
• HP/Compaq
• Lenovo/IBM
• Toshiba
Once you have replaced the existing hard drive in your computer with the Enigma SED hard drive you are ready to activate the hardware encryption and secure your data. Proceed to “Step 3 – Activating Hardware Encryption”.
Page 11
Page 12
Step 3 – Activating Hardware Encryption
AES hardware encryption is installed on the Enigma SED hard drive. Upon initiation of the hard drive you will be required to enter authentication credentials (i.e. User name and password). Create your own authentication credentials and keep them secure, future access to the Enigma SED and the stored data will require you to enter these details when prompted. Without the correct authentication credentials the Enigma SED will remain locked, will not boot up and will prevent access to the encrypted data stored on it.
Management of the hardware encryption activation/deactivation and the authentication credentials is handled by the WinMagic MySecureDoc Express software supplied with the Enigma SED. The instructions below will guide you through installing the software, configuring the administrator credentials and activating the hardware encryption.
1) After completing “Step 2 – Fitting Your Enigma SED Hard Drive” turn your computer on and wait for Windows to finish loading. Once Windows has loaded it will detect the Enigma SED hard drive and prompt you to reboot. Click “Restart Now”.
2) Once your computer has rebooted insert the Enigma SED Software & Manual CD into your CD drive. If prompted click “Run autorun.exe”, followed by “Allow” on the User Account Control dialogue. The Enigma SED start menu will open.
If the start menu does not appear click on the Windows “Start” button and then select “Run”. Type “X:\autorun.exe” (without the quotation marks) and replace “X” with the appropriate letter
corresponding to your CD drive. Click “OK” and the Enigma SED start menu should now open.
3) Click the “Step 3 - Install WinMagic MySecureDoc Express” button on the Enigma SED start menu.

15) Power on your computer once it has completed shutdown and wait for the “SecureDoc Boot LogOn” to appear.
16) Type the administrator username you chose in “Step 11” and press “Enter”. Then whenprompted type the administrator password you chose in “Step 11” and press “Enter”. Providing you have entered the correct authentication details the Enigma SED hard drive will be unlocked and the operating system on your computer will begin booting.
With the hardware encryption activated, every time you power on your computer you will be presented with the “SecureDoc Boot LogOn” and asked to enter your authentication credentials. The administrator credentials you have created allow you full control over the management of the Enigma SEDs hardware encryption, including adding/removing users and enabling/disabling the encryption authentication. If you wish to use the computer in a multi-user environment or limit user access rights to the management console, you must create additional users. For details on how to do this please consult the MySecureDoc Express user manual located on the Enigma SED Installation CD-Rom.

Using Enigma SED
Once the Enigma SED is installed and configured all data that is read from or written to the Enigma SED hard drive will be encrypted and decrypted on the fly using 256 Bit AES hardware encryption. Without successful authentication your computer will not be able to boot into Windows and the data stored on the Enigma SED will not be accessible and the drive will remain locked.
Every time you turn on your computer you will be presented with the MySecureDoc Express “Boot LogOn” screen which will allow you to enter your user or administrator authentication credentials.
When booting your computer for the first time, you will need to use the administrator credentials you created during installation and configuration to authenticate.
If you are the sole user you may continue to use the administrator credentials to access logon. However, if you wish to use the computer in a multi-user environment or limit user access rights to the management console, you must create additional users.
For details on how to do this please consult the MySecureDoc Express user manual located on the Enigma SED Installation CD-Rom.
Important: Once you have successfully authenticated at the “Boot LogOn” screen the Enigma SED is unlocked. The Enigma SED drive will only fully lock itself and securely protect your data if you fully shutdown and turn off your computer. If you place your computer into sleep or hibernation modes then the Enigma SED will remain unlocked.
