OomaButterfleyeisasmartvideosecuritycamerawithfacialrecognitionandtheabilitytorecordduring internetandpoweroutages.TheOomaButterfleyecameracanbepluggedinorusedwithabackup battery.ThecameraconnectstoyourWi-Finetworkanddoesnotrequireabasestation,soitcanbeused inanyhouseholdconfiguration.TheFacesfeatureprovidesfacialrecognition,makingyouralertsmore accurate and resulting in fewer false alarms.

WhenyourOomaButterfleyedetectsmotion,sound,orthatthecamerahasbeenmoved,it communicatesviayourWi-FitostreamvideotoyourOomaButterfleyecloudaccount.YouriOSor AndroiddevicewillalertyouwhenanewvideoclipisuploadedthroughtheButterfleyeapp.

Getting Started
OomaButterfleyeisshippedwithapermanently-installedbattery.Whenyouunboxthedevice,yourfirst stepshouldbetousetheincludedACadapterandMicro-USBcabletoplugyourOomaButterfleyein. Allowthecameratochargeuntilitisat100%batterycapacity.Ifthebatteryisfullydrained,charging thecameratakesaboutfourtosixhours.
Oncethecameraisfullycharged,followthesestepstocompleteyoursetup:
1DownloadtheButterfleyeSecurityCameraappfromtheAppStore(iOS)orfromGooglePlay(Android) andinstallitonyourmobiledevice.
2OpentheappandeithercreateanOomaButterfleyeaccountorsignintoanexistingaccount. Makesureyourphone’sWi-FiandBluetoothcapabilitiesareturnedon.
3HolddownthepowerbuttonontopofthecameratoturntheOomaButterfleyeon.Thebutton willblinkgreenthreetimesandthenturnsolidblue.Theapplicationwillautomaticallydetect your camera.
4IntheOomaButterfleyeapp,goto“AddaCamera”andfollowtheon-screenpromptstopair your camera and connect it to the internet.
AddingOomaButterfleyetoanExistingAccount
YoucanadduptosixOomaButterfleyecamerastoyourButterfleyeaccount.Simplynavigateto the“AddaCamera”pageinsidetheOomaButterfleyeappandfollowsteps3and4abovetoadd additional cameras.

OomaiscontinuouslyworkingtoenhancetheOomaButterfleyewithnewsoftwarefeaturesandmore efficientoperation.Whenanupdatebecomesavailable,acirclewitha1insidewillappearonthegear iconintheOomaButterfleyeapp.Tapthegeariconandscrolltothebottomofthecameradetailspage. Tap“UpdateCameraSoftware”tobeginthefirmwareupdate.
App Updates
TheButterfleyeSecurityCameraappwillupdateautomaticallywheneveranewversionisreleased providedthatyourphoneisconfiguredtoacceptautomaticupdates.
FindingtheBestLocationforYourOomaButterfleye
YoushouldsetupyourOomaButterfleyecamerainanindoorlocationwithaclear,unobstructedfieldof viewfortheareayouwanttomonitor.ThecamerashouldbewithinrangeofyourWi-Finetwork.
Thefieldofviewistheareainwhichthecameracandetectmotion.YourOomaButterfleyecamerahasa 120-degreeviewingangle.
Donotblockthecamera’sfieldofview.Makesurethatnowalls,tables,orobjectsaretooclosetothe camera.Ifanobjectiswithin2.5inchesofthesidesorfrontofyourcamera,itcanreflectlightbackinto thecameralensandcauseglareorhazyvideo.
Foroptimalfacialrecognitionresults,placethecameraateyelevel.
UsingYourOomaButterfleyeUnpluggedandOffline
OomaButterfleyehasabuilt-inbatteryandonboardstoragethatallowsthecameratorecordevenwhen itisdisconnectedfromACpowerandWi-Fi.
Thecameraisdesignedtobeusableinlocationswithoutelectricaloutlets.Undertypicalcircumstances, a fully-charged camera will operate for two to four weeks when it is unplugged. The camera only needs tobepluggedinforaboutfourtosixhourstofullyrecharge.Whilethecameraisunplugged,theInstant VideoCapturefeaturedoesnotfunctionandvideoclipsarelimitedto10secondsinlengthinsteadof
20 seconds.
OomaButterfleyecanalsooperatewithoutaWi-Ficonnection.Videoclipsarestoredinthecamera’s onboardmemoryandareuploadedtotheuser’saccountwhenthecameraisreconnectedtoWi-Fi.The powerbuttonwillblinkamberwhenthecameraisoperatingwithoutaWi-Ficonnection.Thisisnormal.

Understanding Faces
TheFacesfeatureallowsOomaButterfleyeuserstoidentifythepersonappearingoncamera,making thenotificationsyoureceiveaccurateanddetailed.
OomaButterfleyeleveragesproprietaryfacialrecognitionthatusesmachinelearningandartificial intelligencetolearntorecognizeindividualfaces.Onceafacehasbeenrecognizeditcanbenamed, ortagged,insidetheOomaButterfleyeapp.Therecognitionoffacesincreasesasyoutrainthecamera overthecourseofafewweeks.
Forbestresults,theOomaButterfleyecamerashouldbeplacedateyelevelinalocationwhereitwill see faces from the front rather than from the side.
HowFacesWorks
YoucantraintheOomaButterfleyecameratorecognizenewfaces,addimagestoexistingfacesforbetter recognition,ordeletefacesyoudonotwishthecameratoremember.

1 NavigatetotheFeeds&Eventspageintheapp.TaptheMenuiconintheupperleftandselect Faces.
2 TapanyofthefacesintheUnfamiliarFacessectiontoidentifythem.Youhavethreeoptions:
A Ifthisisthefirsttimeyouareidentifyingtheperson,entertheirnameinthepop-upwindow.
B Ifthisisapersonyouhavepreviouslyidentified,selectanexistingfacefromthelistinthe
pop-upwindowandthentap“Combine.”Thiswillhelpimprovetherecognitionaccuracywhen
thepersonisnextseenbythecamera.
C Ifthisisapersonyoudon’twanttohaveidentifiedinfuture,clickthetrashiconintheupperright
corner of the pop-up window.
