Omnitron Systems Technology 10FL-2 User Manual

FlexPointTM 10FL/2 User Instructions
Description:
The FlexPoint IEEE 802.3 and Ethernet Versions 1.0 / 2.0 standards. They convert among 10BASE-FL fiber, 10BASE-2 thin coax and 10BASE-T twisted pair (UTP) media types.
The FlexPoint 10FL/2 converts from 10BASE-FL fiber to 10BASE-2 coax. It uses ST fiber and BNC coax
connector. The following models are described here:
Model Fiber Type Maximum Distance
4310 850 nm (multimode) 2 km 4311 1310 nm (single-mode) 30 km 4312 1310 nm (multimode) 5 km
For metal ST fiber connector, add M before the ‘dash’ in the Model Number. Example: 4310M-1, 4311M-0
The 10FL/2 provides a switch-selectable 50 ohm termination that allows easy termination of the coax cable. This function should be used only when the FlexPoint is connected at the end of a segment.
Note that the total length of the coax cable must not exceed 185 meters and the number of stations on the coax segment must not exceed 30 stations (per IEEE
802.3 specification).

Power Adapter Notice:
1. When using in a stand-alone configuration, this product is intended to be used and must be used only with a Listed Direct Plug-In Power Unit marked “Class 2” and rated at 9Vdc, 1 Amp.
2. This product should always be used only with Omnitron Supplied Power Unit model number 9113-PS.
WARNING!
Before installing and connecting the Power Adapter verify that the power on the unit is appropriate for your AC line voltage source.
Mounting:
The Omnitron FlexPoint 10FL/2 can be solo-mounted using a wall-mounting kit, or rack-mounted using a 5-position spacesaver shelf, FlexRack 5, or a 14-position high-density FlexPoint Powered Chassis. When wall-mounting or shelfmounting, connect the power adapter unit.
When connecting the FlexPoint 10FL/2 at the end of a coax segment, attach the coax cable directly into the FlexPoint’s BNC coax connector. When connecting it along the coax line (not at the end), use a “T” connector to tap into the cable.
Attach the fiber cables to the FlexPoint’s connectors. The FlexPoint’s transmit (Tx) must attach to the receive side on the device at the far end of the fiber and the receive (Rx) must attach to the transmit side.
Switch Settings: “Termination” Switch: When attaching anywhere along
a coax cable except at the end, the Termination Switch should be set to “T ermination Out” (factory setting). When attaching to the end of a cable, it can be set to “Termination In.” Note that when the switch is set to “Termination In,” an external termination element not be attached.
